I’ve seen a Tumblr post of a guy that made a shirt dedicated, and possibly taking art from, what’s called the Rule 34 Pony blogs there.
So I have to laugh at this statement. Bronies have their people the same way Sonic fans, Twilight fans…fuck it, NO fandom is safe from the more perverted fan types!
I don’t think the comment was saying that there’s no R34 of ponies (there most certainly is), but that bronies receive a disproportionate amount of flak for the fairly small clopping community. Because a lot of them insert their fandom into places that it just doesn’t belong, no matter WHAT it is. I have a game I play where I type in the name of some recognizable character from some series, and see how long it takes for DeviantArt to crap out a pony version of it. You’re just a girl who likes a girl show.” And the rest of it. That attitude gets pretty creepy and weird, especially given the show’s general message of “chill out and be nice to people, because there’s a lot of very different people in the world, and all of them are worth your respect.”

Hatred of bronies? It’s not just down to rule 34. Or even crossovers. Those are kind of just like the icing people get into I think or the first thing people notice before they bite down further into that stale cake.
It doesn’t help that the much louder portion of them (note not necessarily the majority, but definitely the louder ones) are generally just plain awful people, some of which treat women and those with real issues terribly as if they don’t belong in a freaking mlp fandom, a show which is supposed to be inclusive and a great girls show. Male X Male is despised and much homophobic talk will result. Oh and the transphobic racist douchebags of course and those who send death threats to fellow fans. If you have a different opinion, are not cis, white, hetrosexual as well as male? You can be mincemeat to some of those asshats. Inclusive they are not. Which is depressing considering the show. Or they whine about how their intolerance should be ‘tolerated’ because love and tolerance people! (To be fair though bronies are hardly the first to come up with this bs, but given the brony catchphrase just… ugh)
I have never been in such a terrible fandom before and I was in the freaking ATLA and Harry Potter fandoms which could be quite frankly terrifying sometimes due to shipping and weird fanart/fic. I can DEAL with rule 34. I can’t deal with people who will send me death threats complete with slurs if I hold an opinion they don’t like even though I’m hardly a high profile fan. For a little while I thought I could call myself a female brony but I’ve come to associate that name with hatred because of my experiences and the experiences of others so I just call myself a mlp G4 fan now. Rediculous perhaps but there you go.
Rule 34? Psst. As long as you don’t glorify sexual assault as so funny~, it’s just a little weird since they’re animated ponies and I’d rather you clearly warned for it- because you know, kids and people who just don’t want to see that stuff for various reasons. It’s everything else I can’t deal with.
/is horrifically bitter and yeah I know it’s not all of them which are like that, but I just can’t with that fandom anymore.
Hell, I’m white and cis myself even if I’m female and not straight but that doesn’t mean I like seeing racist or transphobic stuff. It’s pretty damn horrific to run into a bigot to say less when you imagine the people actually hurt by such things directly. It hurts my insides to think of someone already hurt so much in real life by bigotry to want to escape in fandom for a little bit (or even discuss problems) and have fun and support and run into…. that. Especially considering what mlp is about. And have people treat them as flawed and wrong for being born that way. Don’t they understand how awful that must feel? At all? How angry that can make people? No-one likes bullies except for bullies themselves. You can disagree with a person but start throwing threats and slurs around and… GOD. I mean come on.
People hate the idea of being associated with it then too. More and more I’m hearing people say they’re not calling themsleves bronies anymore but just fans or even just saying ‘everypony’ to each other. And they’re not always from the oppressed group in question but also allies.
Some language and discussion of certain cases of harrassment:
It’s not always gatherings, it can also be individuals sending hate mail after hate mail telling female fans to get raped, or that they’d never date a ‘bitch like them’ as if somehow they’re a prize catch and every girl wants to jump their cock. Clearly they have a winning personality to go on! It’s sad because while I know not all bronies are like that I now think of are raging bigots or bitter Nice Guys(TM) who think anybody with brony problems are just haters. And well, in the internet, these people can just get confirmation they’re right and fine in that echochamber. Or just be individual trolls because being anonymous makes people an asshat. Personally I got pms in livejournal at points even though I’m really an utter nobody in fandom. They’re banned now but there you go.
But there are many places jerks can and do congregate.
Tumblr though. Oh christ tumblr. There are wonderful blogs there, like from egophiliac. But honestly. Also ponychan but then what’d you expect from something based on 4chan? Also ponibooru is/was awful. I took a look or two here and there, was just like “NOPE.” Damn, so many racists. I kind of doubt derpibooru would be any better.
The majority of bronies? Most probably normal and reasonable people who just happen to like a pony cartoon. Some might be a little obsessed but otherwise okay. Some might be any wonderful, but unfortunately due to my experiences and that of others? I can’t call myself a borny.
Though hell, I’m a girl, before I went “Fuck this, I don’t want to be associated with a group of asshats like this” people were whining I had no right to call myself a brony, but I could be a pegasister…
Aaaand, other bronies saying real fans would never call themselves that and true fans call themselves bronies regardless of gender.
Topped off with how feminism is evil. Ah memories. It feels almost like when I first became an atheist. At first wonder and excitement and freedom but quickly realising some of those loud sexist and racist white guys were certainly NOT what you signed up for or what you wanted representing you.
Granted I still call myself an atheist but eh, it’s not like I can change it- it’s an official term from the dictionary, unlike ‘brony’. Plus obviously religous/lack there of identification is obviously a lot more serious and important than fandom terms but there you go.
What Heather says. I like the show – ironically and unironically – and enjoy the occasional fan work (there’s some great fan music). But the community is far too too many jerks and jerk-apologists.
It’s the latter that’s particularly off putting. I can forgive a few bad apples – there will always be jerks, but while the balance of bronies may not be so awful individually, the community as a whole seems unable to call out those who spout hatred or bigotry and would rather shout down those who do in a reactionary shit storm.
It’s long past the point that while I consider myself a fan of the show, I don’t consider myself a ‘brony’ anymore.
I actually have started to use a different word rather than “atheist” to describe myself: “non-theist”. It comes with less baggage and I get people to understand my position much quicker this way.
“The louder ones.” Curse of any group of people, anywhere, ever. It even surfaced in the laid-back world of webcomics not long ago- angry fans of “Goblins” and “Gunnerkreig Court” started laying into each other over this contest on Comic Mix, to the extent that the authors ended up publicly disowning them.
Best thing to do with an Obnoxious Brony is to laugh at his complete lack of sense of irony.
Yeah, there’s a lot of stuff that makes me back away from this fandom sometimes. I’ve learned that the brony motto of “love and tolerate” means something much closer to “You’d damn well better love and tolerate me no matter what, but I’ll only love and tolerate the things that I like.” If you ever need a good example of this, just look for the MLP art confessions blog. Some of the most vile stuff I’ve seen in this fandom has started there.
MLP fans are okay. Bronies are not. It’s all in the cutesy nickname used to prop up being a fan of a glorified toy commercial (because it’s well-written and the characters are blah blah blah spare me that I’ve heard it already) into an Alternative Life Style(tm) and a label that defines their identity altogether. This lets them climb on a pedestal of moral purity, since anybody who doesn’t like the show as much as they do is oppressing and persecuting them. Kinda like furries and their “fursecution” complex. This trivializes actual cases of discrimination against ethnical origins, sex, faith or sexual orientation.
Sure, “fan” comes from “fanatic”, but it is possible to be a mild, non-obsessive fan, isn’t it?
Irony: Calling one or two people talking negatively on Shortpacked’s comments page about Bronies “persecution”.
It literally would not matter if there were a hundred or even a thousand negative comments on this page about Bronies; that still wouldn’t add up to “persecution”.
I try and avoid fandom whereever possible, but isn’t a Bronie just a male fan of FIM? I mean, to say flat out that “no, Bronies are not okay” seems a bit silly, if it’s just the arseholes that are not okay.
But, hey, feel free to correct me, because I haven’t even seen the damn show yet for fear of hype backlash.
It’s like “feminist”, or “Christian”; it’s kind of hard to have a sensible conversation about it with anyone who cares a lot in either direction, because everyone in the argument tends to have their own personal definition of what the word means, and if you want to communicate it helps to be speaking the same language in the first place.
While there are some aspects of the MLP fandom I won’t touch with a 10 foot pole, I still make a point of admitting to being a Brony because I want to teach my kids by example that it’s OK for anybody to like whatever they want to like, regardless of gender stereotype. If daddy’s not afraid to admit to liking ponies, then they don’t have to be afraid to admit they like Batman or Transformers.
As a sonic fan I resent that. The amount of disturbing content of any fandom tends to be equal…Kingdom hearts was ruined for me before I could play it…and MLP…
I do not even want to contemplate what the more…creative fans have done to Kingdom Hearts. I saw what Final Fantasy fans get up to…it ain’t pretty. Adding beloved Disney character to some of those scenarios would just be disturbing.
If we get into the whole “What species is Goofy and how does that explain Pluto” discussion, we may never get back out. Generations have debated that one.
He’s got a tail like a lion, his muzzle looks more like a lion’s, his body pu posture is more like a lion’s, and he’s got a hyena’s mane. Clearly, he’s a Lion King fan character.
He kind of did. If I understand the messed up continuity correctly the first Shadow died from over exposure to being space without a space suit and then burnt up on reentry… and the current Shadow is backup clone.
In the comics Sonic’s evil alternate universe counterpart had a robotic doppleganger that was built by Sonic’s robotic Doppeganger. He was called Metal Scourge. They had a four-way showdown.
Recolours of Sonic the Hedgehog are about as true to the franchise as anything a fanbase could ever make.
And here’s how you can tell that I haven’t played a Sonic game since the days of yore; my first thought was “When did Sonic lose so much weight? Did he give up chilli dogs?”
Unfortunately, fan art can make anything work. ANYTHING. Because it’s fan art. Thanks to the internet I can already think of several ways to explain the described scenario. >:
A friend of mine actually asked me to draw the one from the second panel for him when I was in high school.
And before you ask which one from the second panel; both. It was both.
Geez, I went for years on the internet without hearing of vore porn. Now its everywhere and I can’t escape it (though Shortpacked is a poor hiding space).
I’ve actually been kind of wondering about some of this myself, especially with one of the groups I watch on DA. The non-Sonic art is outnumbered by the Sonic art, and it’s a group for video game content. The majority of said Sonic content has been pretty harmless, but there’s still this huge “WTF? Sonic was NOT that engrossing, folks!” feeling when I have to clear out about 45 out of 50 updates that’s all nothing but poorly-drawn, uninteresting Sonic characters. =\
Personally I think the problem was that the musical numbers dropped in quality as the series progressed. They just couldn’t produce catchy tunes at the rate they needed for that to work.
I did like that cartoon. Not so much the other one.
One of the most frustrating things of my childhood was that the GOOD sonic cartoon was only on one day a week. the NOT SO GOOD one was on every week day just before I had to go to school. And wast the only thing on.
So I saw 5x as much of a show I didn’t really like. There’s no justice.
I liked BOTH of those Sonic cartoons. One was a well-written action show, the other was a hilarious goldmine of utter insanity with THE BEST ROBOTNIK EVER.
Meh SatAM is overated it’s good but it’s hardley as Godlike as people make it out to be and Robotnik on there was the worst villian ever all he did was sit on his ass and throw robots at Sonic.
Oh and I guess he talked with a deep scary voice that makes him not horrible, right?
No, but it makes him less horrible than the Robotnik who was tricked by Sonic wearing a mustache every week, and burst into tears when his stupid plans failed again.
One of the biggest truths on the Internet, you’ll never find a decent amount of normal Sonic fan art to compensate the em..alternatives. Weird thing how Sega has recently managed to refrain from doing weird things to Sonic as it used to be true in the earliest games. Though, was has already been done still lingers and will forever not be forgotten, Sonic the hedgehog 2006.
It did that to me too. Since I often post right around midnight, I thought “Gah! What horrible thing did I inadvertently post while half asleep last night?!”
There was J. Axer, back in the day. And the Yerf gallery wasn’t specifically Sonic related, but it did set itself up as a Furry Art archive with an exclusively PG-rated content (and quality control on the artists).
While I’m well aware that not all Sonic fans are creepers (just like any other fandom), I do have to wonder why the creepiest fan works in Sonic fandom tends to be extra creepy. David Gonterman’s stuff, Chris-Chan…seriously, what is it about this franchise? I demand a thorough psychological study!
Scooby Doo fan art is either porn or it’s some subversive sarcastic thing like the whole gang including Scrappy Doo pointing and laughing as Velma has a horrible gand mal seizure, or they’re in period British army attire killing suspicious looking Dutch colonists as mercenaries in the Boer war.
Its funny, because as a kid I think I drew Sonic more than any other character. I’d sell Sonic sketches to other kids for 25 cents. He was always just running or standing, though.
This applies to a hell of a lot of fanfics, too. I used to be part of this group that would find choice fanfics and riff on them merrily…usually not hatefully… and Sonic was an unending coal mine for material.
I considered my own Sonic fan art normal. It’s not much, just a sketch of him and Goku standing together.
Granted it’s the only art I’ve done that I’m not too embarrassed to put on the internet. http://ninjarobot33.deviantart.com/#/d58308m
The closest thing to normal Sonic fanart that I’ve seen is where he is a human woman in a blue running outfit. At least there he is, you know, just running around. Or, she is I guess.
Robin’s problem is that she didn’t get herself worked up about the newest Sonic game first. The most common kind of Sonic fan art is people having arguments in drawn form.
I was a big fan of the Archie comic and the various cartoons when I was a kid. I suppose it’s one of those few childhood properties that I’m glad I left behind. I can just pretend that Sonic stopped existing right around 2001…except for in Smash Bros., of course.
There’s “normal” Sonic fan art. It’s inevitably eye-searing recolors of Sonic and/or Shadow as Mary Sue OCs, sloppily rendered in colored pencil or MSPaint. But it exists.
Yeah, Sonichu’s more like the very worst aspects of Pokemon and Sonic fandom combined, plus about five EXTRA self-insert characters (there’s always at least one in bad Pokemon/Sonic art), a dash of homophobia and about a metric fuckton of crazy, with the art and writing skills of a particularly unskilled third-grader. I once saw someone try and redraw the first issue so that it looked… you know, not eye-gougingly bad, and it only made the writing look WORSE. And I think I’m leaving some of the problems out because I could only slog through the first issue without my brain curling up and dying.
I’m doing a sketch right now of Sonic grinding up a raw dead baby Chao to make a Chaos-Burrito right now.
It’s subversive because it’s not a chili dog he’s making. I think.
(Okay, no I’m not sketching Sonic. I’ve alway been terribly bored of Sonic outside of enjoying the first two Sonic games and trying repeatedly to convince myself that the two Dreamcast “Adventure” games were any good. I always hated the cartoon. That Urkel kid’s voice is just bad for the ears. )
*Sigh* This is how the Sonic fanbase is viewed. I think honestly outside of the large amount of Porn we’re about the same as Transformers fans. Y’know complaining about everything talking about how much we hate things (Games Comics) and still pay money for them the usual.
I choose to think that the insane MLP art is mostly due to the enormous quantity of it. I think that if you took percentages, Sonic fanart would outweigh MLP fanart in crazyness.
Ha! You are onto something there. I for the life of me won’t understand why Sonic – and MLP FiM – produces so much porn… when the characters in their original designs are simply totally NOT designed to be sexually attractive. (Well, apart from Rouge the Bat).
(That or furries. Take your pick. I chose my first one because I’m not the kind of guy who pigion holes an entire comunity. (I don’t think there’s a comunity for perverts.) XD)
Thank you for that, Willis =(
The only time I have seen any Sonic based art is as thumbnails in Rule 34.
“So it is.”
Not my childhood! La la la la! Not my childhood!
The only way to avoid having your childhood ruined is to avoid the internet and George Lucas.
maybe that’d be the answer, like a double negative, the only one who could draw normal fan art of sonic would be george lucas! or it would be the most horrifying of all…….any bets?
Hmmm…what if Uwe Boll directed a Sonic movie…would it actually be good?
I mean, my childhood was done BEFORE Sonic came along. Not my business.
But the internet and Lucas were built and are powered by children.
George Lucas is powered by children?
Of course! That’s who he made Jar-Jar for!
… or FROM.
As someone who saw Episode 1 at the age of 6, I’m gonna say “both”.
…and Michael Bay.
http://youtu.be/KF02VoDQSd0
George Lucas and your childhood.
Does Dumb Running Sonic count? http://dumbrunningsonic.tumblr.com/
First page, Sonic can bee seen bouncing on his testicles while frothy mucus drips from his nostrils…
Oh my God I though you were kidding GOD WHY WHYYYYY
It gets even better if you click through a few pages. That first one is almost normal compared to some of the other ones.
No. I refuse.
Your sanity approves of this choice.
I refrained from clicking the link as I’ve read the comments below it first.
May I call myself lucky?
I did the same. It was clearly shmuck bait. I’m afraid if I click it I’ll end up on some sort of watchlist.
Really weird link. Just a bunch of images of Sonic running in stupid and bizarre ways, some of which are very, very bizarre. I don’t think any of them qualify as “normal”
I LOL’d. Sorry, Maritza.

People mock MLP fans a lot, but as far as I’ve seen, they are mostly normal. It’s those two franchises that seem to have fandoms made up of 90% batshit insanity.
and 90% of the batshit comes from guys dressed as bats and other creatures.
Batman trained for years to be the best at taking a batshit.
Now that’s what I call comedy. ^_^
And the other 10 % stem from Mel Gibson?
but that’s impossible, for Ken Hayakawa, A.K.A. The Amazing Zubat (not the Pokemon, one of the first Toku heroes) is the Best!
seriously tho, for cheesy 70′s goodness, find yourself a copy of the Zubat series, it’s a lot of fun.
I’ve seen weirder shit from any anime fans, Doraemon fans included.
Ah, but for anime the rules are reversed. It’s the normal ones you need to watch out for.

Yeah, I never understand that. Why do people crap on Bronies?
Because a lot of them insert their fandom into places that it just doesn’t belong, no matter WHAT it is. I have a game I play where I type in the name of some recognizable character from some series, and see how long it takes for DeviantArt to crap out a pony version of it. Not sure this counts either since it’s a pre-FiM style pony, and therefore not a result of the brony fandom.
What’s wrong with drawing crossover fanart?
Nothing. I believe this kind of cross over stuff come form all those birthdays when you got and Ghost Buster and a Ninja Turtle.
See, that particular flavor of hate I don’t get. As far as I can tell, that’s almost every fandom, it’s just easier and more visible with MLP (and, as Derik pointed out, Lion King, in its day). The idea that this is THEIR show, as opposed to it actually, yes, being a show designed to appeal to 4-8-year-old girls which happens to have a lot of crossover appeal to adults of all genders. The vehement and often rude insisting that girls can’t call themselves “bronies” because “Bronies are special, because they’re GUYS who like this show. I totally concur.

I used to think this too. And then I was proved wrong.
It will happen to you too someday.
It happened to me pretty quick.
I’m an artist who climbs up on an enormous pile of bits and sings a Grand Galloping Gala song after every anime convention I attend, thanks to all the pone fanart I sell to Bronies who are still in the First Flush Of Fandom stage where they’ll buy anything and everything related to their fandom. SHODAN? for real? that’s not a joke?
sacred feth i want to die
It is a joke. The primary motivation of nearly all of those “crossover ponyfications” is “Wouldn’t it be funny/silly/ridiculous if…?” Particularly if the source is some dark or macho franchise.
I have seen MLP/Halo crossovers that would support this theory.
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=shodan+pony#/d3kotfo
To be fair, customizing ponies to look like character from other franchises predates FIM by a pretty fair margin.
I just had to google “pony shodan,” and while there were a couple of half-assed ones, there were a couple that were just damned creepy.
Hatred of bronies? It’s not just down to rule 34. Or even crossovers. Those are kind of just like the icing people get into I think or the first thing people notice before they bite down further into that stale cake.

You’ve pretty much described why I’m a straight, white, cisgendered male fan of MLPFIM who avoids contact with the rest of the fandom.
Huh, where doyou MEET those kind of people, most of the Bronies I know are pretty okay
I’m not saying you’re lying or anything, I’m just curious where did you find such a large gathering of horrible-people-who-are-also-Bronies
You know, I used to be cool with bronies. I laughed at some of their little in-jokes. Hell, I almost became a MLP fan.
Then I saw the seedy underbelly of the fandom. For a long time, I tolerated bronies, but now, I’m only friendly with MLP fans.
Bronies are effing awful for all the reasons Heather here brings up.
Irony: Accusing Bronies of acting persecuted and then tarring them all with the same brush.
Yeah, darn yaoi fangirls.
I do not even want to contemplate what the more…creative fans have done to Kingdom Hearts. I saw what Final Fantasy fans get up to…it ain’t pretty. Adding beloved Disney character to some of those scenarios would just be disturbing.
At least Goofy and Red XIII are the same species… sort of…
If we get into the whole “What species is Goofy and how does that explain Pluto” discussion, we may never get back out. Generations have debated that one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA-mYIDJ2Hw
Red XIII always seemed more like a lion than a dog to me.
I thought he was a wolf. Who was related to humans. Or something. I never understood that part of FF7.
He’s got a tail like a lion, his muzzle looks more like a lion’s, his body pu posture is more like a lion’s, and he’s got a hyena’s mane. Clearly, he’s a Lion King fan character.
I’ll give you the tail, but the rest of him is clearly canine.
Dogs are not even sort of close to cats.
I can’t believe I started a damn Brony flame war. I didn’t even use that term! I thought calling them MLP fans was safe!
You lied to me, internet! You lied!
That’s why the Sonic cartoon show had to be animated by monkeys and robots.
and robot monkeys
And robots powered by monkey.
Well, most Sonic artwork I know of is just a recolour of Sonic and given a new name and became a Mary Sue or something.
Someone’s being checking out DA and FF.net I see.
Not really. Just heard form some guy on Youtube.
Someone’s been checking out actual sonic games I see
*cough* Silver *cough* Shadow
Earlier back then that, Shadow.
…he-he said shadow…shadow didn’t come before shadow.
He kind of did. If I understand the messed up continuity correctly the first Shadow died from over exposure to being space without a space suit and then burnt up on reentry… and the current Shadow is backup clone.
It’s always good to keep a backup of your important stuff
In the comics Sonic’s evil alternate universe counterpart had a robotic doppleganger that was built by Sonic’s robotic Doppeganger. He was called Metal Scourge. They had a four-way showdown.
Recolours of Sonic the Hedgehog are about as true to the franchise as anything a fanbase could ever make.
Jesus Christ, Willis. Just… wow.
Here are two normal pictures of sonic fanart. The first is Sonic fighting his evil twin from the Archie Comic
http://hydro-king.deviantart.com/gallery/25239903?offset=0#/d37djgj
The second is sonic “just hangin’ out”
http://anna-aurion.deviantart.com/art/Sonic-and-Tails-hanging-out-110927227
QED
And here’s how you can tell that I haven’t played a Sonic game since the days of yore; my first thought was “When did Sonic lose so much weight? Did he give up chilli dogs?”
No, he still eats chili dogs, but he runs all the time. You’re burning a million calories a day, you gotta replace ‘em.
Dude MavrickDingo I didn’t know you read Shortpacked.
Someone linked me to this.
Taking the joke behind this comic a bit too literally dude.
…I don’t think you and I are looking at the same artwork, Willis.
I know of certain things found on the internet, but I didn’t know Sonic porn was ubiquitous.
I.. I don’t even understand how that would work.
Please do not show us this picture.
After all these years…you’ve finally got my fandom…thank your Willis
dang…messed up mah name again…
On another note, it’s great to see these two hanging out some more. I know it’s not a new development, but it still makes my shipper’s heart glad.
What the hell Willis….
After all these years, finally he got my fandom…bless you Willis.
Robin’s serious expression as she scrutinises the Sonic porn she accidentally drew amuses me greatly.
I have nothing more substantial to add.
also how could she forget to mention all the older amy rose or creams or the roving militia of mary-sue’s trying to bang every sonic character ever.
Only the male ones. Usually.
The female ones are the older recolored Sonics. Or CWC.
Geez, I went for years on the internet without hearing of vore porn. Now its everywhere and I can’t escape it (though Shortpacked is a poor hiding space).
Man, Deviantart is gonna HATE this comic.
The Saturday Morning Cartoon version of Sonic was one of the finest piece of video-game related media in history for a lot of years…
Might still be, actually…
It’s a shame what happened to Sonic Underground.
I can’t help but believe that Sonic Underground would have been an infinitely better show if they’d just left out the damn musical instruments.
I like that Robotnikj he was actually entertaining. Plus it was usally Scratch and Grounder tricked.
AOSTH Robotnik is the best, hammiest, outright funniest Robotnik I’ve ever seen. I’ll hear no ill about him.
Also, PINGAS.
One of the biggest truths on the Internet, you’ll never find a decent amount of normal Sonic fan art to compensate the em..alternatives. Weird thing how Sega has recently managed to refrain from doing weird things to Sonic as it used to be true in the earliest games. Though, was has already been done still lingers and will forever not be forgotten, Sonic the hedgehog 2006.
rule 34 can be really, really annoying at times… :/
And for a moment the site said I was banned… I almost had a heart attack O.o
It did that to me too. Since I often post right around midnight, I thought “Gah! What horrible thing did I inadvertently post while half asleep last night?!”
Are you me!! O.o because i always say stupid stuff after midnight yet I insist to post at such hour D:
I wish I didn’t understand this strip. I wish so many things could be unseen. Curse you, internets!!!
Hasn’t Sam Logan done some normal sonic fan art?
Seems like Scooby Doo is the same sort of thing.
I might have made that second scenario up. Then again, I might not have. Best not to know for sure.
Or Velma kissing Hot Dog Water
Its funny, because as a kid I think I drew Sonic more than any other character. I’d sell Sonic sketches to other kids for 25 cents. He was always just running or standing, though.
Apparently there is a desperate need for your work, once again.
This applies to a hell of a lot of fanfics, too. I used to be part of this group that would find choice fanfics and riff on them merrily…usually not hatefully… and Sonic was an unending coal mine for material.
That’s one mental image that I do not wish to ever see again.
…
*goes to post a suggestion on R34*
*takes off glasses*
Willis, I’ve been reading this comic for a couple years now. And over the years, you’ve done a LOT of funny comics.
But this… THIS is your Sistine Chapel. Your Mona Lisa. Your Nyan Cat. You have outdone yourself. Thank you, THANK YOU for that laugh.
I considered my own Sonic fan art normal. It’s not much, just a sketch of him and Goku standing together.
Granted it’s the only art I’ve done that I’m not too embarrassed to put on the internet.
http://ninjarobot33.deviantart.com/#/d58308m
thats a cute picture. its more appropriate of a crossover then one might think since SuperSonic is kind of a parody of super saiyans.
I think we all need to see this Drawing.
No.
No we don’t.
No. That’s the beauty of imagination. Nothing Willis could draw would be as disturbing as the image you already have in your mind.
I vomited a little while reading this comic.
I was a big fan of the Archie comic and the various cartoons when I was a kid. I suppose it’s one of those few childhood properties that I’m glad I left behind. I can just pretend that Sonic stopped existing right around 2001…except for in Smash Bros., of course.
Sega actually held a Sonic fan-art contest a few years back, the winners of which were featured in Sonic & the Black Knight:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MHs46ZwSZk
Gallery with the Runners-Up:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/segaamerica/sets/72157614284704291/
Almost all of them were recreations of in-game scenes, so it’s refreshingly sane.
I’ve seen clean Sonic fan art. By kids in the fanart page of the comic, but I’ve seen it.
There’s “normal” Sonic fan art. It’s inevitably eye-searing recolors of Sonic and/or Shadow as Mary Sue OCs, sloppily rendered in colored pencil or MSPaint. But it exists.
So, Sonichu?
Nah. Sonichu is a whole other box of cans.
Zap to the extreme!
Making fun of Sonichu is like stooting dynametal ducks in a beryllium barrel. And it’s poor sportsmanship to go after the creator because Reasons.
Bloody hell, there’s a mental image I didn’t need after lunch!
SO….. like is Robin a furry now?
The PC term is “therianthropic.”
That Urkel kid’s voice is just bad for the ears. )
For me, hearing the Urkel kid’s various stage voices is irritating the same way that (I imagine) having a Jock -Itch infection in your ears would be.
*Sigh* This is how the Sonic fanbase is viewed. I think honestly outside of the large amount of Porn we’re about the same as Transformers fans. Y’know complaining about everything talking about how much we hate things (Games Comics) and still pay money for them the usual.
Ya know Mr. Willis, I’d like to spend a day in your head. Okay maybe a couple hours. 20 minutes? 10 seconds, tops.
I wouldn’t. Mike lives there.
So does your mom.
This made me think of an old ENN video about the emotional abuse Sinic has caused his fans. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escapist-news-network/1450-Black-Blue-Streak. Very funny and worth watching.
Sonic the Hedgehog exists so you can feel better about whatever fandom you’re a part of by comparison. Truefax.
This also applies to My Little Pony, now.
I choose to think that the insane MLP art is mostly due to the enormous quantity of it. I think that if you took percentages, Sonic fanart would outweigh MLP fanart in crazyness.
I dunno, man. Creepy Sonic shit might outweigh MLP by volume, but by proportion? Most of the MLP stuff I see is porn or gore fetish art.
Hey, I’ve done normal Sonic fanart… :<
Robin did have a point, I can’t find any decent Sonic the Hedgehog art on deviantArt at all.
Sonic the Hedgehog: My First Furry.
LIES.
LOVE LIVE CLASSIC SONIC!!
http://sindra.deviantart.com/art/Reflection-of-Self-72442361
Ha! You are onto something there.
I for the life of me won’t understand why Sonic – and MLP FiM – produces so much porn… when the characters in their original designs are simply totally NOT designed to be sexually attractive. (Well, apart from Rouge the Bat).
Simple. Perves love a chalange. XD
(That or furries. Take your pick. I chose my first one because I’m not the kind of guy who pigion holes an entire comunity. (I don’t think there’s a comunity for perverts.) XD)
T__T yea thank U for ruining my childhood hero~
…I draw Sonic comics…and besides ONE joke about Rouge’s mission in Sonic Generations I have never drawn anything remotely porny about him.
