LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT IMPULSE-BUY-WEAKNESS CAST THE FIRST STONE.
Look! You can’t judge me! Why? THE BIBLE. Sure, okay, most scholars doubt that passage’s authenticity, but BIBLICAL dammit BIBLICAL.
Anyway, this is “First Edition” Bumblebee. He’s starting to show up at Toys”R”Uses. Arcee and Starscream are also showing up there, but they tend to get grabbed up before you arrive. This is the version of this Bumblebee mold that’s not a taxi. And, man, does he make the taxi version look orange!
He also makes the taxi version look kind of devoid of paint, relatively. It’s weird. You’d expect the exclusive version, the version they can charge anything for, to have more. Yet counter to my expectations, the retail version seems covered in more paint operations. Lots of small things I would have to otherwise paint myself, were I to attempt show-accuracy, are already done for me, like the swabs of black on his hips and gray on his crotch.
(Though it looks like I may have to add some silver to his inside ankles. Silver Sharpie here we come! Matching the gunmetal gray for his wrists may be tougher.)
Speaking of matching colors, the gunmetal gray on both versions of Bumblebee seems identical to me. That means you can steal Taxibee’s weapon with impunity! ”First Edition” Bumblebee can now rock guns on both his forearms just like in the cartoon.
All of the “First Edition” guys come with cardboard stands which are fit into the bottom of the packaging. I will not be using these. Nice thought, though.

The passage is in Flying House, right? THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH.
I don’t recall. Every time I try to watch an episode of Flying House I just end up putting the theme song intro on repeat.
Theme song is indeed catchy.
By the way, thanks for making me worry I missed a second gun for my Prime Bumblebee! Figure came out just in time, as I just set up my Bumblebee shelf!

(Now I just need Rescue Bot BB and his human partner, Axel. And all the other Bumblebees I’m missing.)
Hmm…wonder if this means that Arcee and Screamer are more popular than Hasbro expected, or if they’re just more popular than Hasbro expected among the kind of people who sniff around toy stores for them a week before they’re due to hit. >_>
(I can’t decide which I hope for…with the former, that would me more Arcees are probably forthcoming in the future…on the other hand, the latter makes it more likely that, not being that type, I’ll be able to find an Arcee in a couple weeks, when I get to go look for one…)
Bumblebee– especially versions of Movie Bumblebee (which Prime Bumblebee pretty much is)– is overexposed.
Yeah. I ordered BB with the other two online but mostly because I was worried I’d never see him anywhere. Personally I’d rather have the Taxi version if only because he’s a Taxi and different. I really hate that Pink Arcee though.
Also, Bumblebees are stocked more to a case. I forget the exact breakdown, but I believe it’s something akin to two Bumblebees to each pair of Arcee and Starscream.
There’s four Bumblebees in a case, with I believe just two Starscreams and Arcees.
Also, it’s starting to look like maybe TRU got an early shipment of 8 Bumblebees to a case for some reason. Has anyone actually SEEN the other two on shelves?
Yup.
*nods* What I’m wondering is if that means Hasbro overestimated Bee’s popularity/underestimated that of Arcee and Starscream in general, or just among toy collectors.
That taxi version is obviously from an alternate timeline where the Autobots landed on Tamaran instead of Earth.
You gonna re-paint his face in a brighter silver ala the NYCC version?
It’s more show-accurate short of vac-metallizing it.
Dunno. I kinda like the darker face, accuracy be damned. I’d have to think about it.
I swear to god if you break out that silver sharpie again I WILL CHOKE THE LIFE FROM YOUR FINGERS. Go to Hobby Lobby, buy Testors Silver and Gunmetal. As you need to darken/lighten the silver mix drops of it with gunmetal on a different pallet/bottlecap/whatever. You can really get any shade of silver you want here. Want to make invincible silver? Mix up 1/4 Formula P3 Quicksilver, 1/4 Testors Silver, 1/4 Tamiya Clear, 1/4 Games Workshop Mithril silver, then a little rubbing alcohol to thin it out. Makes silver that won’t come off your fingers (or anything else) without scrubbing. On the downside it dries kinda fast so you have to be quick or thin it out.
I like my silver Sharpie because I’m much more adept with a marker than I am with a paintbrush. (Whoda thunk?) I like having the extra control when possible. If they made Sharpies of Model Master paint colors, I’d never use a brush again.
You ever tried gundam paint markers?
I really hope Prime ‘Bee doesn’t become a shelfwarmer, like his DOTM counterpart has. I’m sick and tired of going to the store, and finding shelves upon shelves of Bumblebees waiting to greet me, with the only one that isn’t a ‘Bee is something else I have, like Roadbuster.
Anyway, I’m very excited to get Prime Starscream. Looks like an amazing figure.
This is Taxi Bee. He has a rich chedduh flavuh. You can spread him on a cracker.
