Absolutely the best sign of the rally, hands down.

Also dig the "BIG SIGN" sign. There was also a sign that was totally blank. It blocked our view of the Jumbotron for a while.

Aaaaaaaand then people started climbing on top of the portapotties. I had to pee later and it was freaky seeing their butt-shadows above me.

I’m getting reports that some people are getting “you are banned” notes when they try to look at the pictures. I have no idea why this is happening.

Two rallies/parades making fun of all the political rallies/parades that go on here. “The Rally to Restore Sanity” from the Daily Show and “The March to Keep Fear Alive” from the Colbert Report.

Based on the evidence in this thread, I now choose to believe that all Canadians are large angry Black men with bald heads, van Dyke beards, and heavy machine guns.

Actually, it was the O’Jays who sang Love Train, same people who sang the original. :) But The Roots were good in those initial bits.

Just a question, how accurate is stuff like http://stopshouting.blogspot.com/ ?

I mean, where there still a lot of politicized signs like the “Fox lies for ratings!” one you have a picture of above?

That looks like about three and a half pages of confirmation bias, there. When a person uses “liberal” as an insult and points out that there were gay people and Muslims attending as if that were a negative, there’s not really any point in trying to refute anything. She expected to be infuriated and succeeded as best as she could.

Honestly, I was very relieved at how well behaved everyone was. I came in expecting most people to not understand the real point of the rally and come in carrying nothing but inflammatory anti-Republican signs, but I was so so happy that those were a very small minority. I hope that small minority were shamed when Jon Stewart decried such a mindset in his closing speech.

Awesome. Some of the things I had seen were starting to make it sound like this was just a bunch of Democrats getting together and doing an inflammatory rally, but with more sarcasm. It’s really great to know that the people there were really serious about wanting to calm things down.

I was a little disappointed with a couple of the more extreme signs (there was one called “reincarnated” with Republicans as Nazis that MIGHT have been meant ironically, but it failed if it had been), but yes, for the most part, people seemed to get it. We ended up only getting as close as Constitution and 4th and could barely see the screen through the trees. unsurprisingly, the press seems a bit… unhappy about the final message.

I don’t think being against Fox news is being politicized anyway. Just because they lean one way, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to lean the other in order to find them [hyperbolic/inaccurate/under researched/miss-representational/whatever/etc].

Glad you got to go! I know there were alotta weirdos there, but i’m glad to see it worked out well for you, and I love your signs XD.

But, weirdos are kinda to be expected. You can’t really judge that rally as a political rally, it was more of a concert and road show… So, you’re not gonna get the same kinds of people you may get at a real political rally. -Kinda hates how people are belittling it because of the kind of nutcases there- The message was good, and i’m sure the entertainment was even better. :3

You should be insulted when someone calls you a ‘liberal.’ What they mean is the you like to steal working people’s money and give it to non-working people.

Is that not what a liberal is? I mean, really, isn’t it?

Meh, Liberal isn’t more about stealing money than Conservative is about being greedy with money. We could spend months debating the differences, even years, and I doubt it would do any good. Like my Grandpa says, ‘Never argue with a cow. You’re just wasting your time, and getting the cow upset.’ We’d get nowhere, and people would just get upset in the longrun.

Liberal is, in my opinion, the emotional party. Their idea is to protect people, provide, and let live. Trouble is, it’s gotten in recently to believe that the only way they can do that is to provide a funded wide blanket for everyone, and the only way you can fund that is to tax it from producers. The idea is good, but it encourages laziness and in the long run hurts about as many people as it helps.

It’s like the butterfly and spider anology. A butterfly is caught in a spiders web, and you feel bad for it, so you release it. Well good for you, you saved the butterflys life. But the spider is now starving, and may die because it’s meal was released.

I’m a strong conservative, but I do have respect for sensible liberal policies. Alot of good has come from pulling to the left, like elimination of child labor, public education (well, public education sucks right now, but the idea is still good), etc… But when you begin to accelerate towards the ‘We’ll take most of you’re money, and then give you what you need’ mentality, it is scarily close to communism…

You should be offended when people call you “conservative.” I mean, when people call you “conservative,” they’re saying that you’re against civil rights and individual freedoms, and that you’re in favor of erecting a Christian theocracy.

I mean, that’s what “conservative” really means, isn’t it?

Congratulations, together we’re the mass media.

Yeah, I caught the mass media thing at the end AFTER I posted. Even if you were just repeating what he said changed, it may have been offensive, but the addition of the mass media thing brings it into good context.
