I wonder precisely what it was that made Amber suspect that Mike fought in the war.

The black shirt with SEMME stripe was in his closet in between his Shorpacked and McAwesome uniforms. The war’s common knowledge, so the ‘uniform’ probably is too.

Nice nod to Mike having DIED, by the way. This STILL bugs me!

It still bugs his mom as well…

It bugs Mike that it bugs his mom. Don’t know if that’s because he’d rather skip the “drama,” or if he genuinely cares about how she feels. Knowing Mike, probably he’d rather skip the drama, and he doesn’t necessarily genuinely care about his parents’ feelings, but hes’ been brought up to take them into consideration.

This strip isn’t drama! The growing look of rage subsuming Mike’s face in the last panels are priceless!

It’s an awkward moment, but Mike just finds their feeble human emotions annoying.

I dunno, that’s split-second moment of “oh dear” on his face in panel #5…

Go read “It’s Walky!” now. “Roomies!” is an optional precursor, but it does tie it all together.

Um Several Plot threads are introduced in Roomies like Joyce’s Memory Loss, SEMME and The Aliens.

Yeah, come on guys, you need to read the Roomies and It’s walky to get it all together clearly.

Having archive binged up to this point, you really don’t need It’s Walky! as much as you’d think. It’s pretty clear that this is all taking place in some alternate reality, since Robin is a congresswoman and Reagan has come back to life. It’s not hard to imagine an alternate history. The reference to an untold war here just adds a hint of mystery for anyone who has only read Shortpacked!

Now, where you need the backstory was the Martian Invasion reference with a Honey picture in the background some strips back. THAT was funny!

Well we know for sure now that this isn’t an alternate universe to It’s Walky. Semme was all over the news once they were found out so we can safely assume that she of all people should know Mike was there

You know, when I first read this, I was in the same boat as you. Shortpacked! has, in my opinion, done a good job of keeping it’s own continuity without locking me out. Kudos to Willis.

As I type this, I’m at the beginning of It’s Walky. I started at the beginning, with Roomies, and I’m pretty much going on an archive binge. Though, it looks like Willis is planning something for Roomies! 15th (9/10/12)

So, or all you who are reading this wayyyy later, go keep that in mind.
