It’s funny ’cause it’s true.
BTW, at this writing, the plot of Funky Cancercancer involves mopey Les (ten years on, so all the main characters can be older and closer to death) agonizing over whether to allow a producer to option his terrible book about his wife’s agonizing death for what will probably be a two-star Lifetime Original Movie starring John Stamos and Moira Kelly. Oh, and incest-couple are staying with him and his daughter (they weren’t related after all, and are now married).
And this is why I don’t read Funky Wikerbean maybe it was funny sometime in the past but now everytime I see it my thoughts are “Oh it’s that depressing Strip”.
Funky Winkerbean has not run in our paper for about 15 years, so I had no idea about it’s change of tone. I may have to go back and read some of the stuff.
I would probably find this funnier if I didn’t know the guy personally. My mom is a cancer nurse and took care of his wife (ie. the inspiration for all this depression)
Tom Batiuk, the author of a comic strip called Funky Winkerbean that generally went from “Wacky highschool hijinks!” to… well… Cancer cancer incest cancer ghost of dead wife appearing cancer.
It probably says awful things about me (or maybe I’m just REALLY sleep-deprived) but this comic made me laugh harder than any that have come before it.
Incest!
Cancer cancer.
Incest incest inbred.
It’s wrong, but oh so effing funny.
oh i dunno i could make it alot wronger muwahahahahahaha!
We have a meme!
I like how “School” is right up there with “Incest”, “Bald” and “Crushing grip of Despair”.
As is pizza..
As a cancer survivor, still fresh recovering from the surgery that removed the tumor, I declare this comic awesome.
And as a human being I say, wholeheartedly, CONGRATS! Also, cancer cancer incest cancer.
Bunions!

Just came back to re-read this strip after reading the Funky Winkerbean Wiki article that references it. Still funny!

What guy? I can’t figure out what this thing is.

And somehow, that comic has gotten a hundred times even -more- depressing since…
Cancer-CancerGhost-Cancer-Cancer
