This was the day that “The Ways The World Ends,” the storyline that was going to be the end of T Campbell’s Fans! but wound up just being the start of a hiatus of a couple of years. David Willis did the art for the second half of that storyline.
I actually get this joke now, since I was just rereading the comic and the last arc I kept going “Damn, this looks just like Willis. Is it Willis?” and I was right I guess. The first time I read the finale I totally spaced on… well, everything, but the art.
