1. You’ve clearly never encountered slash fiction. 99% of male/male pairings are written by female authors.

So, this is the girl that is scandalized by the comic version sexpot Starfire not being like the animated TV-Y7 version, pretending to use telekinesis to make a sexy boy/boy kiss happen (and being surprised that it worked, but that’s beside the point). Kind of mixed messages from David Willis here.
It’s still funny, yeah, and Lucy is the only convenient new female employee, but still, seems out of place coming from her.
I will never ever ever ever get tired of people conflating disliking Nu52 Starfire with hating sex and sexuality.

But if you didn’t hate sex and sexuality, you’d love New!Starfire, because that’s all she is, right? THAT MAKES SENSE, RIGHT???
Well, not hating sex and sexuality in general perhaps, but disliking random, pointless, out of place sex and sexuality that exists solely for the gratuitous titillation of the audience. Like seeing two guys talking and wishing they would kiss for your viewing pleasure.
I will also never ever ever get tired of people focusing on the sexual component of Lucy’s problem with NuStarfire, to the exclusion of 90% of what that strip said.
Putting the word “sex” into that strip was the worst mistake I ever made. I knew it would be when I put it in there, yet I was still stupid and did it, because it was a useful piece of the puzzle. But that word is such a terrible distraction, a lightning rod for strawmen arguments.

I thought that whole Starfire thing was just meant to be a single example in the greater fight against the objectification of females in comics anyway. The Lucy comic have just as easily used Catwoman, for instance. No animated version of Catwoman ever had to mention that they kept their masks on, and the complaints against Catwoman artists in the new 52 were just as much as against the Starfire writer.
To be sure, a poorly written character, and a character subjected to gratuitous sex scenes, are two different things, though often occurring together.
Her issue wasn’t that Starfire was supposed to be sexy or sexual, but that she was basically just a pinup character who’s default reaction was sex or striking random contortionist poses. Even the original comicbook Starfire had more to her character then just sex.
In fact, let’s see what that strip actually says. Just for fun.
The complaint is that “comic book Starfire is an amnesiac, emotionally-detached sex prop who has no friends and doesn’t enjoy things because enjoying things is super lame.”
If you want to translate that to “scandalized that comic book Starfire has sex”…well, okay, but you’re going to have to cross out about 90% of those words first.
