The tags clearly say so, but she is wearing glasses now, a clear sign that is important and will stick around!

Talking to the topiary in the corner also tends to come off badly.

Well, anime ditzy one was still an adolescent…so…yeah.
They were both adolescents.
But the toon Starfire act least ACTED like a naive kid who was learning about romance and friendship. Yeah, they overplayed the language barrier, but still… a far better role model for young girls who are immigrants… Which is partly what her character was intended as (for the cartoon), I think.
I know you probably didn’t mean any offense, but honestly it’s fucking annoying when people call genuinely intelligent people who act silly or scatterbrained ‘ditzy.’ Starfire wasn’t stupid or particularly immature in the anime, she was just a little goofy.
Way to bring back Characters from stand alone pages into the story there Willis. I wonder what will become of “I don’t like the new starfire” Lucy.
I’m still waiting for Duncan to move in with Ken, Malaya & whathisname.

Really? I’d guess that Ken mostly ignores race in his preferences based on the girls we’ve seen him express interest in: Malaya, Conquest, that girl at the end of the Kenquest arc, and this new girl.
I’m not sure if we could say he was “interested in” Conquest. When Malaya said how cute she was, he didn’t seem to notice. But he must have been attracted to her enough to “do the deed”, so to speak.
Whether you count Conquest or not, he’s expressed interest in girls on many varying points of the Fitzpatrick scale. I don’t think skin color matters much to him, which is a point in his favor IMHO.

I think the undertone that slipped beneath most people’s radar is that someone assumed Malaya (a Filipino girl) “looked like she would know about” a Japanese product.
Or perhaps the patron just assumed that “A TOY STORE EMPLOYEE” would know about thier store’s products?

What really sells it is that Malaya looks the tiniest bit concerned there, as if she regrets her action, while understanding that she had no choice.

Yes, she isn’t bragging here, she’s actually taking responsibility for her actions by reporting them to her immediate superior.
Of course since Amber is marrying Mike, I wonder if what she really objects to is not the deed but Malaya coming and bothering her about it.

If you’re wondering why she’s wearing glasses now…It’s that Issue 52 starfire damaged her eyes.
Her boobs and butt WERE quite shiny in the previous comic. She must’ve gotten the rare variant copy with shiny paper that glows under light. It was an act of mercy on the colorists’ parts.
Honestly, the idea of a Twilightified!Starfire hurts my childhood less than the scans from that first issue did.
I wonder if Ken just feels the need to bang every new female face that walks in the door now. Well, sometimes once the first time is done with, a person feels like a kid in a candy store.
And thus, a second Jacob/Joe is born!
Those snowglobe babies sure do grow up quickly!
I think it can only go one way or the other with Jacob and Joe. It’s the difference of wether or not he feels bad about himself when it’s over.
Yesss, I am so excited for Lucy’s return. I am all for the introduction of more girl geeks, especially ones with her great taste. Is this Lucy looking for a part-time job between classes, or has she just graduated into our terrible job market? (Do not ask me how many of my fellow graduates from my major have ended up in retail.)

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one whose brain keeps parsing Bakugan (little marble-things that unfold into robots) as Byakugan (the Hyuuga clan’s kekkei genkai).

Well, it IS a cute character design. I can see why Willis would want to use her more.
On one hand, my suspension of disbelief over Malaya being able to not be fired is wearing thin.
On the OTHER hand, considering the REST of the people working at this place…Hell, Mike and Ninja Rick alone…
Mike and Ninja Rick both treat customers horribly on occasion, but at least they know about the products. And iirc neither of them decked anyone just for assuming they’d know about a product line. Mostly they just react obnoxiously when customers get obnoxious to begin with.
Lucy has returned! Wow, was this planned? What seemed like a one off character who wasn’t even shown in the store – and used for a single joke/message centered around a controversial and stupid depiction of a well-liked DC character from almost a year ago is now shown to be a real viable (and hopefully recurring) character who wants to work at the store? And adding to that – she’s a cutie wearing glasses!!!

It was shorter. She grew it out so she didn’t look like Faz.

The real question: Was Lucy’s return planned or did he just like the character design enough to revive her?
Red Hood and the Outlaws is a bad comic, but I don’t think enough people are still reading it to justify more references.
I’m sure he can find things to do with her that don’t rely on Starfire jokes.

She’s either a really light skinned black lady or the color came out lighter than intended. The funny thing is it didn’t bother me until someone else called attention to it. *facepalm*
