If it’ll make you feel any better, just think about how the only DeSanto sibling we’ve seen turned out. Knowing how to change a diaper is a very small subset of actually knowing how to care for a malleable little larval human.
I didn’t think the age difference was so much that Robin ever took care of Roz. Maybe in the Dumbing of Age universe, but in the flashbacks to Robin’s childhood Roz only looked a few years younger.
This is great. I kept seeing all those comments from people saying things to the extent of “do not leave Robin alone with that baby”, yet I had the feeling she would make a pretty good godmother for some reason.
Nice moment for Robin fans.
And now you’ve spoiled the obvious upcoming Godmother comic series for me. The one in which Robin & Leslie reconcile their differences, become Godparents, & Leslie gets kidded.
Maybe with Ethan being the non participating sperm donor.
My first thought was fairy godmother and I couldn’t help but imagine “I’m Robin!”
“And I’m Leslie”
“And weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere..
YOUR FAIRY GODPARENTS!!!”
Are you making a subtle comment on Leslie & Robin’s partner choices? Because I seem to think iive heard the term Fairy used to apply to their erm.. Preferences.
There is(was?) a show on Nickelodeon(I don’t have that channel anymore) called the “Fairly Oddparents” which was about essentially fairy godparents and what Yotomoe quoted is from the opening song to the show -except different name of course.
Oh, I know about the show. Also, in the show they always refer to themselves as Fairy Godparents, the Oddparents bit only comes into play during the theme song.
Robin & Leslie being Fairy Godparents, might be a double play of refs, for reasons already stated.
Depends on how much you’re pumping, really. Most people only have a couple of bottles that fit to the pump, so it’s easier to store milk in sterile bags made for the purpose than to constantly be switching out bottles.
But speaking of which, Amber is probably going to be super uncomfortable if she goes the rest of the night without feeding the baby. Ah, what price for a little sleep?
Bags are cheaper and store more compactly. Bottles are easier to get ready. It really depends on how much milk you are planning to keep in reserve and for what reason.
Well, her death was retconned, but I’m pretty sure all the stuff Black Mask did to her still happened.
Not counting the last year or so of NEW DC Universe, of course…
Well, she was a congressperson. Granted she didn’t get a second term but she wasn’t recalled either(despite her flagrant abuses of office I.E. trying to get a bill passed to force two gay men to makeout.).
An especially appropriate sentiment coming from someone with a Pinky Pie avatar. I mean, Robin is clearly the Pinky Pie of the Walkyverse, and remember what Pinky’s initial ideas about babysitting were like.
Y’know how you sometimes take a baby for a drive in the car to make it go to sleep? I wonder if Robin would take it for a run? And if she’d make it to a different State before she turned around?
Robin, in her own weird way, is a nice person. Tried to get an anti-cancer bill passed (yeah can’t happen but nice thought), bought her lesbian a house, and now letting Mike and Amber catch some rest. Not too suprized she’s good with Donna.
My first night home from the hospital, I’m told, was a very noisy one. I didn’t cry or anything, I just snorted and made slurping noises and whatnot. My parents moved me into my own room right away.
Mine is 7 weeks old and has adored being snuggled on the chest and over the shoulder like Robin is doing from the day she was born. Its also really nice for getting at least one hand free to do things like warm milk If she is not squirming too much, you can even prop her up with your forearm and do things that need to hands!
As long as the head is supported, it doesn’t matter if it’s a hand or a forearm or a shoulder or what. Ya just gotta not let it loll all over the place.
You’ve just got to support the head. Also, you must hold a baby upright for burping, which you do after every feeding unless you want to deal with a gassy, unhappy baby. Well, you could go with the over-the-knee burping method, but none of my kids particularly liked that one.
Hey, am I the only one that isn’t surprised when Robin is competent? She can be responsible and what not (I actually haven’t read any of the other comics, just caught up on this and Dumbing of Age, I’m going on what i’ve read here). I remember that incident when she told Ethan something like “its kinda pointless for me to act stupid when everyone else is doing it for me”? Or that moment of realization, after she pulled the drama tag, she knew her world would need comic relief and she was the only one who could reliably produce it, so she did? There are times when she genuinely does something stupid because the drama can’t be escaped, but for the most part I think she knows when it’s good to pause and be serious, like right now.
This message has been brought to you by the council to drive internet memes into the ground. The council to drive internet memes into the ground: ruining humor since 1999. Thank you.
Wait, didnt Amber say her parents didnt know she existed? I dont know about the rest of IW! but was she liek raised in an abductee camp or something? Also, what is she doing in their house?
On one hand, I’m glad to see Robin being portrayed as helpful and competent. On the other hand, I’m worried that Amber might feel threatened in her role as mother.
Dude, when you’re dead tired and someone’s willing to handle the baby for you late4 at night, what you feel is grateful.
This is obviously the first time Robin’s done this for Amber, so I’m assuming she hasn’t been “mothering” the baby during the day. Unless Robin starts trying to breastfeed the baby for her, I don’t see why Amber would get upset about Robin handling some night time feeding/changing.
if nothing else amber and mike will not have to ever hire a baby sitter or nanny they have one in robin as long as she does not go so far as offer to breast feed the little one for amber.
Anyone else notice Donna looks kinda happy, in as much as a two-week-old baby can do so? Or is that just the babies-and-small-animals -_- expression plus straight line failure?
She looks mildly traumatised to me. In a kind of “who is this strange person that isn’t mommy, and why are they feeding me instead of mommy?”.
Same way my cousin’s freshly unboxed miniature human did when I had to hold her for a while… but having nothing to feed her with, the unfamiliarity factor won out over the “hey, they’re feeding and changing me, they must be alright” one so the tears started again.
After all these comments, I found myself in the grip of an irresistable urge to click his nice green username just to satisfy the building curiosity.
I made it about five seconds, to the point where there was mention of the New York Times, but “New York” was struck out and replaced by “Saddam” in bold italics.
Yeah I think we know which side of the ultraconservative political wacko fence you’re sitting, Macker. You and your cohort are the reason the peoples of the world can’t get on with each other and have nice things. You are Sydney Yus.
‘Also, you’re in my house. I don’t think we’re living together any more. Are we? I can’t remember. To the archives!’
they are still livin’ together
http://www.shortpacked.com/2011/comic/book-12/08-this-is-so-babies/hospitality/
Looks like Robin’s been living with them since Leslie kicked her out of her own house about a year and a half ago.
Leslie’s house, Robin gave it to her.
the perfect friend….
Robin… Competent…
*Curls up in a corner and whimpers*
Willis likes to throw a lot of curve-balls.
Maybe she had the Cadbury cereal again?
If it’ll make you feel any better, just think about how the only DeSanto sibling we’ve seen turned out. Knowing how to change a diaper is a very small subset of actually knowing how to care for a malleable little larval human.
Things are so much easier before they’re sapient. Sorta.
Simpler, maybe, but not easier.
Plus, things are so much more fulfilling once they’re actually interactive.
New curveball, Robin was the better mother between her and her actual mother (I mean look at Robin herself).
This comic makes me kind of sad about the current state of Roz and Robin’s relationship.
Oh and hey we finally see Donna’s face!
I didn’t think the age difference was so much that Robin ever took care of Roz. Maybe in the Dumbing of Age universe, but in the flashbacks to Robin’s childhood Roz only looked a few years younger.
There are indeed other DeSanto siblings.
Oh. I did not know that. Okay then!
The Desanto clan are known across the land for their devestation of candy stores, outdated slang, and being shitty at committed relationships
I thought the candy store devastation was just Robin? Unless they ALL run on sugar…
Are we going to meet them?
I wanna meet them!
will we ever see them?
When are we going to meet them??
BABYYY!
Cuddly baby!
I like seeing this side of Robin. A sort of no room for hiding character under a ton of puree’d skittle dust Robin.
This is great. I kept seeing all those comments from people saying things to the extent of “do not leave Robin alone with that baby”, yet I had the feeling she would make a pretty good godmother for some reason.
Nice moment for Robin fans.
Robin fans unite!!!
high five!
And now you’ve spoiled the obvious upcoming Godmother comic series for me. The one in which Robin & Leslie reconcile their differences, become Godparents, & Leslie gets kidded.
Maybe with Ethan being the non participating sperm donor.
Or did I just do that, after you put the idea on my head by mentioning that Robin would be a fine Godmother?
My first thought was fairy godmother and I couldn’t help but imagine
“I’m Robin!”
“And I’m Leslie”
“And weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere..
YOUR FAIRY GODPARENTS!!!”
Are you making a subtle comment on Leslie & Robin’s partner choices? Because I seem to think iive heard the term Fairy used to apply to their erm.. Preferences.
Yeah, but usually homosexual men, not women.
I love how even the baby doesn’t know quite how this is going to go in the 3rd panel.
Is it more normal to keep extra milk in a bottle or in a bag?
Depends on how much you’re pumping, really. Most people only have a couple of bottles that fit to the pump, so it’s easier to store milk in sterile bags made for the purpose than to constantly be switching out bottles.
But speaking of which, Amber is probably going to be super uncomfortable if she goes the rest of the night without feeding the baby. Ah, what price for a little sleep?
There are roughly 50 million different and conflicting opinions on that.
Bags are cheaper and store more compactly. Bottles are easier to get ready. It really depends on how much milk you are planning to keep in reserve and for what reason.
My family has always used bottles; they attach right to the pump. It didn’t even occur to me that you might use a bag.
The plural of anecdote is data, right?
Real friends are the ones who let new parents have their deserved rest once in a while.
Robin is Amber’s best friend forever and Amber still treats her subpar
This
Being Robin’s BFF is the sort of thing that tests one’s patience. Her wacky hijinks tend to have not-so-wacky consequences. See: Donna.
I’m pretty sure that Donna isn’t the result of Robin’s wacky hijinks.
Actually, she kinda is. Remember the thing with the birth control?
Exactly.
I bet all moms wish they had a Robin.
I personally wish I had a Robin
Whereas all moms have already been had. By a Mike.
for a nickel!
They should give Batman a call. He always has a few extras laying around.
I need to learn not to drink when I read the comments. For finally making me a spitter, not a swallower, you deserve applause.
That one actually made me laugh, once I processed it. Good job.
awesome reply. but none of them are as cute as the DeSanto one
I don’t know. Stephanie was pretty cute.
At least before Black Mask, y’know…
Too soon?
More like too late. That was already retconned (sloppily, but y’know).
Well, her death was retconned, but I’m pretty sure all the stuff Black Mask did to her still happened.
Not counting the last year or so of NEW DC Universe, of course…
Leslie should be impressed by this.
Robin is…responsible?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted! Just…wow. Did not see that coming.
Well, she was a congressperson. Granted she didn’t get a second term but she wasn’t recalled either(despite her flagrant abuses of office I.E. trying to get a bill passed to force two gay men to makeout.).
What part of your life experiences have led you to think that being a Congressperson is a mark on the “responsible” side of the checklist? : )
I believe she had three terms and was running for her fourth.
An especially appropriate sentiment coming from someone with a Pinky Pie avatar. I mean, Robin is clearly the Pinky Pie of the Walkyverse, and remember what Pinky’s initial ideas about babysitting were like.
Admittedly, Pinkie did figure out how to do it in the end, so there’s always hope. But, yeah, Robin is totally the Pinkie Pie of the Walkyverse!
<3
It is indeed.
Mike looks like he’s about to cry too in that first panel
Robin looks annoyed. Don’t you hate it when moms try to sooth their crying children after you’ve already started?
I think she’s annoyed at Amber for assuming she’d be incompetent at taking care of a baby.
Am I the only one who thought Robin was referring to the baby by “bodily excretions” at first?
seconded
I…just realized she wasn’t…
She wasn’t? You guys sure?
Re-read panel 3. Pretty sure she’s talking about the milk.
Yeah, but the baby (also what I read first) is WAY funnier. I’m going to keep that interpretation because it makes me laugh WAY harder.
… As did I.
Could she mean the milk and the baby?
Robin meant the milk, Amber meant the baby. Both interpretations got used,
“At first?” I still do. The milk and the baby are not mutually exclusive.
Ah, how I love sentences that make absolutely no sense out of context.
Well, it was plural!
Exactly!
Nope.
bodily excretions is a new expression, but i do enjoy phrases like that for children
a new expression for baby for me*
I think she meant the milk but your version is funnier.
well it is plural so perhaps both (though i didnt even realize the milk until your post)
This is the sweetest thing I think I’ve ever seen Robin doing.
Awwww.
3rd. for me it goes,
proposition 469
buyin’ the house fr her lesbian
this
she bought leslie the millenium falcon then the house. still counts, though i think its first, then this
Aw man, I love it when Robin acts like an actual person. I feel like I haven’t seen her being competent since her alien-fightin’ days.
That’s because she isn’t so good at being an actual person. Alien-fightin’ and babies are just weird enough for her to deal with competently.
Y’know how you sometimes take a baby for a drive in the car to make it go to sleep? I wonder if Robin would take it for a run? And if she’d make it to a different State before she turned around?
Probably gotta wait until Donna’s neck is stronger before trying that!
But that’s what slings are for.
Or maybe a jogging stroller with head support.
Just whatever you do… NEVER TAKE THE BABY FOR A “FALL ASLEEP” DRIVE IN ULTRACAR!!!!!!!!
Nah, like Robin, I bet Ultracar will prove to have another side to his personality. One that involves puppy dog eyes & incessant baby talk.
When nobody else is around to see it.
Wow this is a nice surprise coming from Robin, sure she explained she had experience… but still… surprising O.o And I adore Robin.
Look at that. Their own personal nanny.
I just tried to picture Robin as Mary Poppins, and my childhood memories cried out in terror.
And were suddenly silenced.
“Just a Spoonful of Sugar” never does specify the size of the spoon…
Never heard a baby referred to as “Bodily Excretions” before, but I think I have to adopt the term.
She’s referring to heating the bag of Amber’s breast milk. “Your milk.”
I also thought she was referring to the baby.
Amber was. Robin was talking about the milk.
I’m well aware of that, but favoured an absurdity over a dull logicality.
Robin, in her own weird way, is a nice person. Tried to get an anti-cancer bill passed (yeah can’t happen but nice thought), bought her lesbian a house, and now letting Mike and Amber catch some rest. Not too suprized she’s good with Donna.
Way to go for Amber for losing that baby weight incredibly fast!
Also…I didnt think Donna was old enough for her own room. Clever Girl
They grow up so fast.
*whipes a tear.
My first night home from the hospital, I’m told, was a very noisy one. I didn’t cry or anything, I just snorted and made slurping noises and whatnot. My parents moved me into my own room right away.
To be fair Robin is somewhat responsible for Donna.
All I can say is that this page the moment Robin uttered “I got it covered” my mind was blown from just that alone.
I thought one didn’t hold babies upright until a few months into it, like you’re supposed to just cradle them vertically for a while.
Mine is 7 weeks old and has adored being snuggled on the chest and over the shoulder like Robin is doing from the day she was born. Its also really nice for getting at least one hand free to do things like warm milk
If she is not squirming too much, you can even prop her up with your forearm and do things that need to hands!

But Bodily Excretions are tasty, or at least the ones that come out of breast are. Yummy.
I feel like I need to go back over the last like… dozen or so comics and count all the “Would you let Robin take care of your kid?” naysayers.
They underestimated just how awesome Robin is. Robin takes care of all yo babies! She’s so babies.
She’s babies MacIntyre.
“You know what you’re doing?”
Take off every Zig!
This message has been brought to you by the council to drive internet memes into the ground. The council to drive internet memes into the ground: ruining humor since 1999. Thank you.
I used to take arrows to the knee, but then someone set me up the bomb.
But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked.
That’s a meme, too?
Awwwww, this weird, terrifying, and adorable all at the same time.
Nitpick: I think milk is a SEcretion, not an EXcretion. Not that Robin would necessarily know that.
Difference between the two being: secretion is useful, excretion is waste.
Babies could end up either way.
Wait, didnt Amber say her parents didnt know she existed? I dont know about the rest of IW! but was she liek raised in an abductee camp or something? Also, what is she doing in their house?
After the abductiees were abducted and brought to work with the army their families minds were erased of her so she remembers but they don’t.
Also she lives there. She has lived in there house since she got kicked out of hers.
So why does Roz remember her?
i think you mean “Robin” …not “Amber”
On one hand, I’m glad to see Robin being portrayed as helpful and competent. On the other hand, I’m worried that Amber might feel threatened in her role as mother.

Yes.
if nothing else amber and mike will not have to ever hire a baby sitter or nanny they have one in robin as long as she does not go so far as offer to breast feed the little one for amber.
All they’ll have to do is pay her in skittles. AFTER getting Donna back off her of course.
Robin has layers.

SO David! Will you have a strip ready to go for when the Обамаcare decision is handed down?
why is it written that way i am afraid to ask
Making the mistake of clicking his homepage pretty well answered both questions…
Scary…
Of course, the avatar advocating the nuclear annihilation of a major religious site probably should have been a hint…
…..yes, this person needs to stop coming to my website starting now.
Aww, but I wanted to see him dance!
I made it about five seconds before clicking away in terror. You?
Tried to read the newes post there, but either my English isn’t as good as I thought or it’s just really confusing.
But I think I understand the prime message of that site.
As someone rather adept at wielding the language. I can tell you, your comprehension has not in fact failed you in the least.
His wiriting is truly awful and confusing.
After all these comments, I found myself in the grip of an irresistable urge to click his nice green username just to satisfy the building curiosity.
I made it about five seconds, to the point where there was mention of the New York Times, but “New York” was
struck outand replaced by “Saddam” in bold italics.Yeah I think we know which side of the ultraconservative political wacko fence you’re sitting, Macker. You and your cohort are the reason the peoples of the world can’t get on with each other and have nice things. You are Sydney Yus.
Good day to you, sir.
Wait … if she’s Robin … and she’s taking care of sidekicky type duties …
Does that make Amber into Batman?
…and is Mike therefore Alfred?
When I read “bodily excretions,” the first thing I thought of was the baby. Shows how sensitive of a man I am.
