His attire is appropriate… strangely enough…
I’ve been to wakes were people did dress up in festive attire on purpose. Instead of mourning, it was the celebration of their life.
Mike’s appropriateness has more to do with this being a celebration of Amber’s sperm donor’s death IMHO.

Except we’re all celebrating his death!

Except Amber seems to be sincerely sad – which makes sense because he may have been an abusive controlling cheating asshole, but he was still her dad so you know what that means…

It would have to be icky drama. It couldn’t be normal drama. Not since someone over there pulled the comedy tag.
It doesn’t have to be a comedy tag. Could be a farce tag, or a public service announcement tag, or a docu-drama tag. There are many tags to pull.
Why not the patented, but free for public use as long as you post a health warning disclaimer, Monty Python “Now For Something Completely Different” Tag?
Robin herself is pretty much a walking, talking “and now for something completely different” tag.
So Rose was a daughter of Blaine’s too? I know they are dopplegangers of the Shortpacked employees, but I didn’t think the similarities went that far.

I must also note that Faz is a lot more sympathetic when he’s not talking.
Yep. That’s Rose, Amber’s mirror. Can Zaph from McAwesome’s be far behind?
Yeah, the last two strips have made me more sympathetic to Faz than I’ve ever been…and he has no lines in either of them.
It seems the sympathy he gets as a character is inversely proportional to the amount he talks. I’m sure he has a chart to explain it. Except his chart would probably include crudely drawn genitalia.
Nah, I’m rather sure the chart would speak for itself.
It will probably have to do with the brain-penis-blood ratio.

I feel bad. For FAZ. What the hell?
It’s kinda sweet in a weird way that Faz get’s to a chance to see his father at least once even if he is well, dead. Mike is awesome as always even in the background. And Mike’s coworker Rose is there too, so maybe this funeral will turn into a half-sibling meeting/ family reunion.
Burial or cremation?
Mike will see to it that it’s cremation, eventually.
The ashes will be used to scour Shortpacked’s urinals for years to come.
Faz can meet the family at the wake, but first the have to stop by Jerk In The Box.

Wait, is Mike cosplaying as David Willis?
My first thought was he was cosplaying as Joe.
Great, now I want Willis to start wearing party hats as part of his public attire.
It will make him stand out at cons.
It says something about the comic that this arc, to me, is the weirdest one yet.
I love Mike’s outfit. You can really see some of what Amber sees in him here – he’s doing what she wants to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if the party hat was her idea.
And it’s okay to cry, Amber. Controlling asshole or not, he was still dad. We’ve seen bits and pieces that weren’t all bad.
WE have? I doubt it. But she must’ve at some point.
Mikes atire seems oddly… appropriate i am going to go with that word.
Also Mikes initiative has inspired me to mandate that everyone who attends my eventual funeral has to wear Hawaiian shirts or a pointy party hat, but no velvet gloves or sideways hats!
Better yet, request that everyone wear a superhero costume. That way, it’ll look like one of those sad funeral scenes from a crossover comicbook! Just hope it doesn’t look like Booster Gold’s…

It’s Rose, Amber’s McAwesome’s Doppelganger.
So I’m guessing the two of the are related. Is she another of Blaine’s kids? And if so, how did she know he was her dad? And if she knew he was her dad, did she know Amber was her sister? Why wouldn’t she tell her? Or Mike, since she works with him as well?
And wasn’t she a member of Semme at one point? Did she know Robin and Mike as well (she knows Mike now of course, him working at McAwesomes)?

I find it odd that Faz has been quiet the whole time.
I’m surprised she even went! However, I give it to her because that might mean she’s learned to forgive and forget or went to make sure he’s really dead and wasn’t hit by a truck (like she had imagined).

Having been in a similar position to Amber’s [a person I hated and yet was so tied to I mourned his passing]: I wonder if she is not crying for her father. I think she’s crying for Faz.

I liked Mike’s funeral outfit.
Before this storyline, a comic starring Faz entitled “Visitation” would probably have quite different content.
I seriously thought this was all going to end with Amber’s dad having faked his own death and then show up at her wedding or when her baby was born or something.
Amber should get together all of her siblings and have a coffee morning or something.
And Mike, I salute you, you magnificent arsehole.
I gotta tell you, I’m looking forward to seeing what Amber and Faz’s relationship will be, now that they’re both aware of the fact they’re half-siblings.
And like everyone else, I LOVE Mike’s outfit in the background.

Details full of win: Mike’s pink vest, Amber’s sleepy-baby-mouse eyes without her glasses, and Faz’s sheer I-am-actually-a-statue immobility. The light’s moving more than him.
Bad week for the Ambers.

1) Although is was hinted that Rose may be Amber’s half-sister (hence her presence at the funeral), what if Mike is dating/engaged to/having sex with Rose? After all, McAwesome’s is the parallel universe to Shortpacked!
2) While I’m one of those who does not like she-who-will-not-be-named* (mostly because she’s too realistic and like people I know IRL) . . . similar to Mike, Faz is over-the-top enough that I like him as a fictional character. So I feel really sad for Faz.
*Not trying de-rail the subject or start any HateDom threads, honest.

first i ever have seen faz speechless and somber. and amber even though the guy was an ass is crying because he was her father and mourning any way. and hope we get to see how faz reacted to learning he and amber are sibs.

My dad is an assh0le too, but I am sure I’ll be really sad when he passes.
I essentially had Amber’s father, and although mine’s still alive (so I don’t know how I’ll react when the time comes) I find it hard to believe she’d cry at his funeral. I’d probably have to be restrained from dancing on the coffin.
But then, Amber’s probably less dead-insidey than I am. =/

I agree completely that Faz is surprisingly quiet and sympathetic here. It really is amazing how much more sympathy you have when he doesn’t speak.
