I noticed. Especially the sorta sad look in the lower right corner. It’s not even like he’s feeding off her tears or anything; she’s sad and he’s being there for her even though it makes him uncomfortable.
I like seeing sober Mike play therapist. It’s a lovely medly of “genuinely wants to help Amber” and “I am Mike and I strangle things and do moms for nickels”.
For Mike a confused response is the wrong kind of awkwardness, like when you punch a corpse and people are like, “what was that all about?” People should be outraged and offended and know exactly why or it isn’t worth the effort.
Aw man, now we’re gonna have to get real character development for Faz. I was enjoying having a caricature of a sleeze, but I think Willis is about to humanize him.
Or maybe turn him into a Supervillain for real. That would be cool, actually.
I have only met two of my brothers and a sister, know of two other brothers and another sister, and there are very likey a few more here in Oz and overseas.
I see through your plans Mike, you figured out that Amber wanted you to tell Faz about his dead father so she doesn’t have to, so you act all nice so she will be one to tell him, thus stress her out enough to give birth prematurely.
Thing That Won’t Happen, Now That I’ve Talked About It(TM): Mike blackmails Galasso into borrowing his resurrection/cloning apparatus, then returns Blaine to the mortal coil, for no other purpose than to have an epic duel of jerkwadness.
Yeah, I love Mike and Amber as a pair, but I’m still trepidatious about the foreshadowing of Jason’s line: Mike never does anything he doesn’t want to, he just doesn’t always do it for the reasons you’d like.
Ohmigosh, Mike and Amber are so cute I can’t stand it. In a wonderfully twisted, realistic way.
Oddly enough, I’ve said similar to Mike’s first panel for a friend of mine (regarding a soon-to-be ex. Only they wanted the sads and possible forgiving, so I handled the angry. Complete with a menacing “let’s take a walk and have a little chat…” moment.)
Is this really Mike? He is barely being an asshole. Rather, he’s disguising support and empathy with insensitive comments. What do you call that, backhanded apathy?
I’m just waiting, and expecting, for Amber to tell Faz only for Faz to go “But he’s not dead. I met him yesterday. In fact, there he is” and point to his actual dad, which’ll really mess things up.
Amber never wanted to stand up to her father. She wanted to find a strong male to HURT him. So she can feel better. (see that, dad? I found a man, and he beat you. Beat you GOOD. So I win). It never once occured to her that there are other ways for an abused child to defeat an abusive father figure. Other than finding another male who likes to settle things with violence.
Don’t be silly. By successfully extracting herself from his life and starting her own, she DID beat him. Abuse is about power, and the fact that she barely even cares that he died proves that he had no power over her at all.
Plus, having Mike beat him up isn’t her only revenge fantasy. She also wanted to hit the guy with a truck.
Heh, heh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, eh-hee, hee, hee, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha!!!!
It’s worth remembering Mike is somehow GOOD despite being a compulsive asshole. Otherwise, instead of defending the world against alien invaders, he’d've done his best to ensure a global massacre.
“You can have the angry and I’ll handle the sad.” Aww thats kinda nice. Granted he’s sad because he won’t be able to beat the crap out of the guy but still.
I love the fact Mike actually wanted to punch out Amber’s father for being a Jerk. This entire strip really does seem to give off a “Mike genuinely cares about Amber” vibe.
First off, I love it when we get to see “tender” moments between Mike and Amber, especially with the baby on the way.
Second, I feel that Amber is breaking the fourth wall in that last panel…..do the readers who don’t know their real fathers feel like they are now more connected to her?
Does that include being a big sister to Faz?
I think that’s the implication in the last panel, yes.
And some of the east coast, too, maybe
East Coast . . . is the Nest Coast?
I’ll the it over the Jersey shore any day.
She’s going to go give Faz a noogie and call him a little shit?
He probably considers that foreplay.
By this diagram you can see that any nestling of Faz’s hair is just a plea for Faz to please you sexually
I think that is the point. She is going to have to tell Faz because she is his big sister.
Mike is being super nice right now. I really like him when he’s like this.
What’s great is he’s being nice without actually being nice. Coming from someone else this wouldn’t be half as effective.
Exactly.
Oddly, he’s SOBER while being nice
That’s because he luuuuuuuves her!
He’s drunk. On love.
I noticed. Especially the sorta sad look in the lower right corner. It’s not even like he’s feeding off her tears or anything; she’s sad and he’s being there for her even though it makes him uncomfortable.
Mike would make a surprisingly good therapist.
Well, except for his whole “rape therapy” idea.
Are you suggesting that rape therapy doesn’t work?
It wouldn’t. Unless it’s Mike. And you’re paying him a nickel. (He’s overpaying)
If you parse it correctly, yeah.
I like seeing sober Mike play therapist. It’s a lovely medly of “genuinely wants to help Amber” and “I am Mike and I strangle things and do moms for nickels”.
The RAPISTS for 400!
…Mike, when has awkwardness EVER stopped you?
I think he’s just disappointed that there won’t be any pain…
Unless Mike has found out how to punch someone in the soul. That could correct the problem.
“Big sister to half the West Coast”? What’s that about? I feel like it is something I ought to know.
Faz is not the only bastard offspring of Mr. O’Malley. There are two others that have been shown (implied) at McAwesome’s.
There might be dozens.
Basically, Amber’s dad got in some trouble with the Korean mafia by sleeping with nearly all of their wives. Faz is one such offspring .
In that regards, Amber’s father is like my own, I most likely have even more brothers and sisters than I have already accounted for.
Ouch. I’ve only got three half-brothers and a half-sister. O_o
I have only met two of my brothers and a sister, know of two other brothers and another sister, and there are very likey a few more here in Oz and overseas.
I have a few half-siblings my mom and I didn’t know about until I was 18. I know it’s not their fault, but I don’t want to speak to them.
I’ve only gotz one… :T but I still feel like a kindred spirit
I strangely feel like replacing Mike’s lines with lines from Johnny Bravo.
Do this. Link the result.
Seconded.
Black shirt, poofy yellow hair, superhuman muscles…why didn’t I see it before? All he needs is the sunglasses!
“Hey there Little lady, You should just forget your daddy issues and pic up some a big helping of “Oh Mama”!. Flex Flex Flex~
Amber might just tell Faz the truth now – wonder how that’ll go…
Anyway Mike’s being kinda sweet right now…
Excuse me as I have something to attend to at the moment…
[runs away screaming]
I see through your plans Mike, you figured out that Amber wanted you to tell Faz about his dead father so she doesn’t have to, so you act all nice so she will be one to tell him, thus stress her out enough to give birth prematurely.
Mike isn’t being nice – he’s just being the opposite of what you expect.
And Mike loves Amber.
Mike’s being super nice and helpful, without actually being, you know, nice. It’s quite strange and amazing.
I’m actually surprised it took half the comment page for someone to say this. I like this side of Mike… he is surprisingly human.
Thing That Won’t Happen, Now That I’ve Talked About It(TM): Mike blackmails Galasso into borrowing his resurrection/cloning apparatus, then returns Blaine to the mortal coil, for no other purpose than to have an epic duel of jerkwadness.
No, Mike’s going to have him resurrected as a wedding gift for Amber, so she gets a chance to dispose of him however she pleases.
I support this idea.
It doesn’t count as murder if he is offically dead already. *evil grin*
Especially if there are no witnesses and they dispose of the corpse in the same coffin and grave.
That’s how it’s usually done, yes.
Does double jeopardy apply?
Wow Mike being supported…….Im scared and excited he cares
OH SNAP!
…I don’t care if she said it herself, it still warrants a “OH SNAP!”, goddangit!
Man, this is the reason Mike and Amber work, and I kind of love it, not gonna lie. Hope you ain’t gonna shit on my party, Willis. I don’t trust you
Also, I really wonder how this Faz thing is gonna go.
Faz will take up all Faz’s father’s legacy.
With Faz’s penis. Because the ladies love it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone be consoling and insulting at the same time, but if anyone were to do it it’d have to be Mike.
Woah, Mike actually being nice and caring?
Guess it really is love.
Mike punching Amber’s dad.. that would be a great fanfic…
FOR ME TO WRITE
(and maybe live vicariously through)
Mike/Amber is the best canon pairing in anything.
At least unless/until Willis makes Ethan/Mike canon in Dumbing Of Age.
So… she will now give presents to all the people? Or will she punch them?
Is this really Mike? He is barely being an asshole. Rather, he’s disguising support and empathy with insensitive comments. What do you call that, backhanded apathy?
I like this side of Mike.
I’m just waiting, and expecting, for Amber to tell Faz only for Faz to go “But he’s not dead. I met him yesterday. In fact, there he is” and point to his actual dad, which’ll really mess things up.
Robin had their DNA tested, so unless there was some mistake (it’s Robin), they genuinely are related.
Though I suppose that could mean Blaine ISN’T Amber’s father.
And that’s sad.
Mike and the baby are not a “real family”?
Sorry, Jagg; that wasn’t meant to be a reply to you.
Wouldn’t getting hit by Mike be pretty close to being hit by a truck?
Uh. Oh.
Heh, heh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, eh-hee, hee, hee, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, , ha, ha, ha!!!!
EDiT: I forgot to LOL.
DUN DUN DUUUUN
This is really sweet.
And he’s not drunk or his cheeks would be pink, clearly Mike has some hidden motive because he’s Mike.
“Faz, I am your sister.”
Four words: “Your half brother, Faz.”
(Willis technically already did this joke, but whatever.)
We’ve all learned a valuable lesson today. It’s OK to hit a corpse if they were previously a royal jerk.
Dawwwwww! he put his arm around her. He must be screaming on the inside. ^_^
I think I like you.
I’m sad everytime I can’t beat the crap out of a guy…
Mike being sweet and supportive is effing adorable.
That is all.
I never thought I’d see Paragon Mike.
I like Mike’s face in the last panel: “Oh, shit, I accidentally did something good, didn’t I?”
I love the fact Mike actually wanted to punch out Amber’s father for being a Jerk. This entire strip really does seem to give off a “Mike genuinely cares about Amber” vibe.
Faz will be the best uncle in the world.
Hands down
…there.
First off, I love it when we get to see “tender” moments between Mike and Amber, especially with the baby on the way.
Second, I feel that Amber is breaking the fourth wall in that last panel…..do the readers who don’t know their real fathers feel like they are now more connected to her?
A lot of the time, looking straight at the audience indicates self-reflection or self-awareness.
This is the cutest thing.
Mike does care underneath his A-holeness. He did show he cared for Dina when she said goodbye to him.
