No, seriously, I have no idea where they are. They were in an odd spot in the old house before the move, since they didn’t really go with any existing display and there were just four of them, and so now I have no idea where in my basement of bins they would be. Hrn.
This came up today because I got the new Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime today, and he’s a replacement for my old War for Cybertron Prime. I thought maybe I’d photograph them together or something. Nope!
If I never find that WFC Prime, it’s not a HUGE loss. I mean, first of all, obviously, he’s been replaced. He’s now nonessential. And gaddangit, I prefer his replacement. WFC Prime was a mess of parts and it always kinda annoyed me. It wasn’t nearly as aggravating as his contemporary WFC Bumblebee, but Jesus, man. The new HOC Prime is delightfully simple. I enjoy him.
He’s pretty straightforward to transform. Like a stereotypical Prime, he folds his arms up against the sides of his chest and his legs fold back behind him. No surprises.
FOC Prime is the size of a modern Deluxe Class toy. He’s Prime RID Bumblebee’s height. Taller than Cliffjumper, shorter than Wheeljack. (He’s also the same height and mass as Beast Wars Dinobot, if we want a more historical comparison.) But those of you yearning for the sizes of Deluxes of Armada through Cybertron, I think oil prices have kind of ruined that for the mo’.
I’m bringing this guy with me to San Diego Comic-Con. When I (god willing) get my Bruticus, he’ll need someone to stomp into the ground. At least then his relative smallness will be a feature.

Not a bad looking figure… the part on the back of his weapon reminds me of his G1 rifle, so yeah, nice touch.
WFC Prime is better!
Sorry, I grabbed this off ComicAlliance like half an hour ago and I wanted to use it.
I wish they had made this into a voyager instead of Soundwave. Great lookIng you though. Might get him.
Yeah, Soundwave’s gonna be the odd one out. The one non-Deluxe amongst mostly tiny dudes. I already have the Deluxe, and none of Big Soundwave’s disc-guys really do anything for me, so I’ll likely skip him.
Now, if they did Grimlock at that scale…
Totally agree on the Voyager Grimlock.
AND NOW IT’S HAPPENING! Just saw it on Seibertron.com…
Oh god PLEASE do Grimlock at Voyager scale! But I’m not getting my hopes up.
I’ve kinda accepted that the toy sizes are going to be smaller. I’m not oblivious to the oil cost issue. (I really don’t think any of us are.) I mean, it’s pretty obvious the toys have gotten smaller. (Places them roughly the size of the RiD toys from 2000. Which I’m okay with, as I loved those guys.) I’m not mad at Hasbro for this. They kept the prices at a somewhat stable mark for so long, I’m still wondering how they even did that. But more so, I’m actually worried. It wasn’t that long ago, barely over a year, I got a hold of Generations Wheeljack, Blurr and Wreck-Gar. Very good sized, detailed and vividly colored toys, for less than the deluxe sizes are costing now. (Some of them with awesome accessories.) With plastic costs rising, you kind of come to accept the smaller toys… We understood it a bit in the DotM toys, since they included the Mechtech weapons… But then the current Prime line, and the Generations toys there also reduced in size, and not containing the blamed Mechtech weaponry. (In fact, often the toy’s gimmick, as opposed to flip down battle masks, or launching missiles will be like snap-on blasters, or something that’s far from a unique gimmick in this toyline.) Along with getting smaller, they’ve gotten less elaborate, with fewer paint applications, and unfortunately, more expensive. (To near the $15 dollar range.) I mean, that’s quite a bit of a jump in a little over a year.
Has things gotten THAT expensive to produce these little plastic toys? Mattel’s DC Universe toys went from under $10 per figure to near $18 in that short of time, the G.I. Joe and Star Wars figures went from $5 to $8 in that short span of time too. (Though in Joe’s defense, they started coming with an crapload of awesome accessories!) We already saw the First Edition toys get shelved, which probably had more to do with being more expensive to produce with difficulties to keep the toy down to a manageable cost.
Like I said, I’m not mad, I’m worried. So is this the new status quo, for the time being? Or will we be seeing even more changes? Stickers phased back in? (Not against that, as long as they’re well done.) Die Cast Metal? (That seriously can’t be cheaper, can it?) Could it get more drastic and sometime this decade, we could be looking at a $20 deluxe toy? More focusing toward the Cyberverse lines? Not exactly a bad idea, as they’re not bad toys… But it does make you wonder what the future is going to behold to us.
All the U.S collectors complaining about 15$ deluxes starts to annoy me after a while. I’m in Canada, and deluxes have been 16.99$ Canadian since around Armada, if memory serves, and our Dollar has been worth about the same or better for a few years now.
But, I see this trend of smaller toys continuing, not only with the increase in oil prices(Not only to MAKE the toy, but the cost of shipping them overseas, and then distributing them around the country), but an emerging Asian middle class make it so what used to be a very cheap way to make toys, is becoming increasingly more expensive. The best thing they could do is start making the toys in the company they will be sold in, get rid of a few steps in the whole ‘shipping oil to make plastic, shipping plastic to make toys, shipping toys to distributers, shipping toys to retailers’
Wait, $15 US?! Wow. Here in Britain they’re about £15 (= c.$22.50 US) and that doesn’t seem especially pricey to us. (Lego’s also fairly expensive here- it’s made in various nearby EU countries, so shipping costs are lower but wage bills are higher.)
Wusses.
In Australia, we’re lucky to get a Deluxe for under $30 AUD. (And with the Aussie Dollar sitting at rough parity, you can see the problem)
Wow, you’re the first person to not tear FOC OP to shreds for his height. Now if I could JUST FIND ONE MYSELF….I’d be the second.
Seems kind of silly to hate on a Deluxe toy for being the size of a Deluxe toy.
Right? I mean, c’mon people.
I got the feeling I mention that in almost every of my comments, but once agian: I live in Germany, and the Deluxe Transformers cost 19,99€ here for quite some time now. It’s even worse with the Cyberverse figures: The small ones coste something about 6 or 7€, the Commander cost 15€, which feels incredibly harsh. If they would be put around the same price point like in USA, I’d probably own Optimus and Megatron from that line (I’m not too fond of the smaller ones, except Cliffjumper).
But on FoC Optimus itself… Aside from the somewhat small truck windows, I kinda like this guy for the same reasons Willis already mentioned – less kibble and stuff, and a simpler transformation. I’m really looking forward to get this guy.
However, I think he’d also be great voyager. Same goes for Megatron and Grimlock, of course.
It looks like his torso is mostly chest and very little back.
Are you having trouble keeping the legs and fender snapped together when transforming Prime?
I haven’t noticed a problem, no!
I actually like the WFC prime way more in both modes. I love the chunkier, more wholesome look, by which I mean, he looks more complete, not that he’s disney channel material or whatever. I also never had much of an issue which the transformation, it was delightfully involved. I also much MUCH prefer the design on WFC Prime, FOC Prime looks too boxy… I know Prime IS boxy, but the more angular Prime was betterin my opinion, but to each their own.
