So I ended up getting MP Thundercracker. I wanted his stand, really, for Sunstorm (and I bought some Goo Be Gone on the same trip so I can remove “Thunder Cracker”‘s misparsed name from it) and yesterday we stumbled across a buncha Thundercrackers, so.
His colors are nice. I might like them better if I weren’t having to compare them to Sunstorm’s, whose colors are just an orange-shift away from Absolute Perfection. He’s a dark, deep blue, and I like his charcoaly forearms. Also, man, he’s got some goofy tampographs, which I adore. The ones on top of his jet intakes that look like his original toy’s stickers I don’t really care for, but the rest are adorkable. He’s got Kyde‘s name on one side and… J. “Dragon” Sass’s on the other… And there’s “Sonic Boom!” tampos on his tailfins and weird tattoos of Reflector on the backs of his shoulders, visible from the sides of his jet mode. These goofy tampos make him slightly less boring.
It’s obvious that Hasbro thought they were putting the original version of the mold in this package, given all of the call-outs. It claims he has a swappable face, which is totes not true anymore, and he comes with the original version’s jet mode missile pods, even though they’re not exactly compatible with him anymore. The instructions, of course, have the original version depicted as well, so that’ll give somebody an ulcer, I’m sure.
I’ll have to decide if I’m keeping him. I want the stand, certainly, but I need some time to decide if I want to keep the robot. If you want one of your own, he’s Toys”R”Us exclusive, so keep a vigil for one there. They’ll go fast.
I picked mine up today and the instructions made me ponder life for a moment. Then I figured out the transformation 2 seconds after that.
I strongly suspect J Sass is a veiled biblical/religious reference.
how much are they going for at TRU? The closest one is a bit of a drive for me and I’m on a budget right now.

I don’t know if you have Ollies (strange discount store) where you folks are( they ARE BASED IN PITTSBURGH BUT THEY HAVE THEM HERE IN VIRGINIA) but all of the 2009 2010 and 2011 sdcc/matty collector specials have appeared there on clearance this week. Egon spenglar with slimer and the 12 inch chris reaves superman(lex and zod as well). STRIPE from JLU is there for like $8…probably 15 different pieces..all the GL stuff… i have superman kicking the crap out of zod while zod is wearing Gene Hackmans wig on my desk right now. hard to beat $29 for any 12 inch fig eh?

I wonder if I’ll find Thundercracker in German TRUs too.
The one in my town still has a few MP Rodimus’ in the shelves, and they already sell them for something around 30-35€ (he was originally priced at something around 60€).
I doubt any of the 6 TRU within 50 miles of here will get them, we never got MP Roddy or Grimlock. You should totally sell me yours cheap.

They also used the Generations Thundercracker picture on the back, which is just plain la-zy! I snagged two on Saturday, and will be listing my other one on ebay soon.
I suppose they chose Reflector because Thundercracker actually used Reflector in camera-mode that one time. I always loved how he used the camera as glorified binoculars, then took a picture of what he saw for no reason, and then the picture came out of Reflector like a Polaroid.
I want to know what TC did with that photo. Did he frame it somewhere?
Yes, in his room full of TVs where he watches Nurse Jackie, he has many many pictures of his adventures!
Willis, now that I’ve opened mine and played around with him, I have a question for you – does SunStorm also suffer from the mold defects from the original StarScream? Like, the torso not locking in place and the wings not really “latching” into the slots on the back in Robot mode? I love this mold a whole bunch and I tolerate these issues, but it would be interesting to see if Takara resolved them on SunStorm or not.
In that pose I’m imagining what Sunstorm is saying. “You can have your Primus! I will not be restrained by your god or anybody else’s! I will. Have. The Sun!”
Dunno if you’ll ever see this, but what the hell. I bought a second TC purely to put that gorgeous new head on my Hasbro MP Starscream. I’m trying to sell the rest of the figure off cheap/in parts to recoup some of the cost. If you’re still wanting a stand for him, I’d love to help you out.
