You might say I have a passing interest in Batman. But I hadn’t been paying attention to the upcoming Dark Knight Rises toyline, and so one day it was just there, in all stores everywhere. I saw the “Movie Masters” stuff, a bunch of 6″ Batmen and Banes, and I considered them. Maybe get one, come back later. And so I picked them up, looked at them, and put them back on the pegs.
And then I realized, oh, shit naw, if you buy all six figures across two waves, you can put together a friggin’ working BAT SIGNAL? Friggin’ sold, man! I walked out with Bane and Batman, and later that evening I scoured the city for Alfred, finally finding him at a Meijer after having no luck at half a dozen Targets and Walmarts. Otherwise just Banes and Batmen as far as the eye could see.
But I have my Alfred now. It’s weird. I’m certain he was available off MattyCollector.com or something before. It wasn’t worth it then. I just really want that bat signal projector. Guy’s just gotta have some motive to drop some coin, y’know? Sometimes I’m on the precipice of consumerism, and I just need a push.
(For what it’s worth, Bane is a pretty awesome figure. He’s meticulously painted, especially for a retail release. Dude’s got the faintest hint of stubble on his bald head. Sweet ass.)
Now the wait for Wave 2 and its final three bat signal pieces.

And then the line was cancelled.
Alfred wasn’t previously available or I would have already bought one. Still trying to find one! :/
The real question is, how much longer will he spend debating the subject than it would have taken him to just hop in line and buy it?
Nice! Catwoman is already out and people are finding her but I don’t know who the other two figures are. Someone said it’s the no-mouth Batman and ‘another Catwoman with goggles up’ but since the goggles are hinged anyway I can’t see them making you buy the same figure twice in the SAME line.
Cobra Commander/kidfromThirdRockFromTheSun seems to be one of them.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s in DKR? As a character important enough to get a figure? How did I miss that?
Alfred wasn’t sold on Mattycollector before. Just in stores now.
The 4th figure is Catwoman (with a variant “goggles down” version), the 5th figure is officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character), and the 6th figure is a mystery (though rumored to be Ra’s).
Ha! I realize he’s punching him, but Alfred’s finger is ever so slightly extended, making it like: “Here, shmell my finga.” Whatever is on there, Bane does NOT LIKE.
Apparently build-a-figs work.
WHERE’S MY BEAST WARS CYBER RAPTOR HASbRO!?
I’m not really a fan of the Nolan Batman movies (well, Batman Begins was okay, but I hated The Dark Knight.) Still, the idea of having a Michael Caine action figure appeals to me. Next time I go Transformer-hunting I might glance over at the Batman isle and see if I can pick one up.
You’d think with all the war and caper movies he’s been in there would have been an action figure in his past, but he seems to have missed out till now.
Wow, you actually found something new, current, and rare at a Meijer? I haven’t had much success at a Meijer in years, as they seem to lag behind Target and the -Marts. (Then again, I’m not looking for Batman stuff right now; I’m just mostly irritated when I go in and see their Transformers stuff is still 99% DOTM.)
It’s easy to find something current, rare, and new at Meijer if it’s in the first wave of a toyline. It’s the waves after the first wave Meijer always has trouble with.
We need more pics of Alfred punching people.
