Didn't the Faye/Marten stuff stop at strip 500? And they're well past strip 2000 now. Seems like an odd thing to continue to begrudge. It was in 2005, man!

When someone says they want to avoid a situation that crops up in thousands of works of entertainment without including any references to specific elements of another one, even if it were a shot it would hardly be thinly-veiled (and it's probably not a shot at any one series).

I've been having a long term one for a month. The bastard just isn't going to give up, I've done everything, taken him on movie dates, had drawn-out makeout sessions, actually had sex, but the bastard just isn't giving up!

The point is that there is nuances in how somebody's personality develops over time due to socialization in light of their sexual orientation (wherever on the scale it falls). In the world, as it is today, being publicly gay changes how people interact with you, and eventually your outlook. That, and his internal struggle in the early pages. Ethan exhibits a believable character because there is nuance. Nuance is not easy to write.

Say what you will, but from me to Willis, Ethan is a very well done character. Ethan's exceptionally well done when you consider that he wasn't part of the life-time development cycle that the Walkyverse characters went through.

If anybody who outwardly calls themselves gay would like to say otherwise, I'm always open to learning!

I bet Mako also goes on Hulu and writes that Glee is forcing gays down our throat by having a storyline about a jock coming out.

Or something. I lost it halfway.

It's actually isn't that hard. A straight man can imagine himself, if he were into men. Sexuality is just one part of someone, it's not everything. A straight man can imagine someone exactly like himself except for that one thing and the experiences informed by being attracted to the same sex that the straight guy wouldn't have gone through, like rejection from parents and homophobia. I admit it takes a straight person with awareness and empathy to write about those experiences, since most straight people could give a crap, it sometimes seems.
