Hey, look, it’s Joel Watson again. As the previous comic stated, he wanted me to go with him on JoCo Cruise Crazy 2, and I’m doing my darnedest to gather funds. I have a new Shortpacked! poster ready for the occasion, which I’ll start pushing in earnest once everyone gets back from vacation next week. But if you want to grab it early, as they’re limited to 50, the poster is already up in the store!
This heads-up is your reward for paying attention to me even though you should probably be hanging out with your family or rapidly amassing liquor for Saturday night. Glad we have our priorities straight.

Do not anger the neckbeard! But if you do, “Godspeed, you fancy bastard.”
Medicinal neckbeards?
It’s really more of a medical condition.
If I start a chiptunes band, that’s going to be what I name it.
Two? I thought Ronnie was the only time displaced character? Oh wait, never mind. I forgot about FDR in the other store. It is FDR, right?
I thought he was referring to Mike Warner. For all we know FDR at McAwesomes is just someone who bares an uncanny resemblance.
I always assumed McAwesome’s FDR was actually The Penguin.
Mike’s explanation is pretty clearly implied (for those who have read “It’s Walky! At least). It was brought up in the strip just recently in a conversation between Mike and Amber.
Actually, they also give a reason why he can’t be revived anyways. Mike breaks the rules of resurrection and we don’t know why. Ronnie actually doesn’t, but we still don’t know why he was alive again.
Love the homage to Transformers The Movie in the new poster.
I believe you’ll find that image is a homage to Botcon ’99′s “Reaching the Omega Point” poster.
No, the “Reaching the Omega Point” poster is a homage to the Transformers:The Movie poster.
HOMAGECEPTION
The poster is an homage to the movie poster. Reaching the Omega point poster also homage the movie poster.
The bird Mike is shooting in the poster is the funniest thing I’ve seen on the internet in the past 24 hours.
Which either means I don’t know the best entertainment sources on the web, or I have a horrible sense of humor. Or both. Bleh.
Nah…the best thing is how completely and utterly confused Jacob is to be there.
I’m going to have to look up the original poster so I can see which Shortpacked character matches which Transformer. So far I can only say Faz is Unicron and Ethan is Hot Rod.
Hot Rod isn’t even on the poster, surprisingly. The lack of him, if I had to guess, is a bait-and-switch so you think Ultra Magnus is more important, keeping Hot Rod’s ascension a better-kept secret.
Or just as likely, they didn’t want a duplicate Hot Rod/ Rodimus running around on the cover leading to the kind of confusion the Metroplex battle scene boxart did so they used the toy with the higher price point.
I would suspect if that were the case, they would have put Hot Rod/Rodimus up in front in Ultra Magnus’s central position. And, hey, Hot Rod’s character model is basically identical to Rodimus Prime’s anyway.
Oh right! As a G1 fan I’m embarrassed, but then again I haven’t watched the movie in years. Too many characters I cared about died and were replaced with pale imitations. I still watched until they stopped showing new episodes, but it was never the same.
Hah…you prompted me to do the same thing.
… And now I’m annoyed because I’ve ID’d everyone except Jacob’s counterpart. Might just be because I’ve not been able to find a nice large image of the poster, but even the general body shape doesn’t look familiar.
Joel Watson/David Willis OTP?
I like it. Now we need fanfic.
…possibly including neckbeards
Given the Walkyverse, having two unexplained resurrections doesn’t really break anything!
Customer protection racket? Why isn’t Ethan holding a Batman toy?
That’s not a weapon!
(CPR brochures can give you paper cuts.)
It could have been one of those Brave and the Bold toys with an oversized weapon!
The very idea of a planet-sized Faz noggin is kind of terrifying. Well done.
The only thing I can think to say about the new poster, Mister Willis, is that you’ve got the touch.
But does he have the power?
*DRUM RIFF*
YEAH!!!!
Last I saw of that poster on your Tumblr the text was different. Nice to see you finally just got beyond Thunderdome.
Your the third person that made that joke.
I think a Marvel-esque ageing up for the kid, ah-la Valeria Richards, might be a good idea at some point.
Ageing in real time might feel like a good idea but kids do tend to tie the characters down with what you can do with them. Wacky adventures are hard to pull off when you have to worry about a baby sitter.
You think a baby would slow down Mike?
If anything the baby is going to knock out somebody with a rattle by its first birthday with Mike congratulating it
Nearly all of this strip’s wacky adventures happen inside the store, where Mike and Amber still have to work, baby or not.
Even that lends its troubles though. How often will they be at the store together when the kid arrives. There are going to be a lot of occasions when all we do is see them at home with baby.
Sorry if I seem such a downer on this and I know you can write whatever you please. I’m just of the opinion that kids, very young ones especially, have a habit of holding back and dragging down an ongoing. Whether that be TV show or webcomic.
Crikey and I was wondering why I was getting called Grinch this Christmas.
Ok, here goes:
Ethan – Ultra Magnus
Amber – Arcee
Mike – Springer
Ronnie – Kup
Robin – Blurr
Ultra Car – Rodimus Prime
Leslie – Wheelie
Jacob – Laserbeak?
Galasso – Galvatron
Ninja Rick – Scourge
Fax – Unicron
Malaya – Cyclonus
Ryu – Cyclonus’ Armada?
Jacob is an Autobot shuttle. (And Ken is one of Cyclonus’s transformation steps.)
>_> And now I see I could have avoided annoyance by scrolling down a bit.
Thanks for the list Lefty and it’s a very good match up of Shortpacked character to respective Transformers character Mr. Willis, but if I had to nitpick I’d make Malaya Wheelie for obvious reasons. I’d rather Leslie be the Autobot shuttle than be associated with the most annoying Autobot ever.
It was more a decision of prominence. I wanted Leslie closer to the main group, because she’s relatively important. At some point the comparisons stop making sense and you gotta start plugging in folks in the spots that are left.
Too true and it’s because I’m such a stickler for accuracy any time I try to analogize I get bogged down in details and never get a single thing done.
Mike is the obvious choice for Springer. He has better things to do tonight than die (or stay dead, anyway).
Is it too much to ask to get a comic adaptation of TFTM with the shortpacked cast? The above question. Has me wondering who would be wreck-gar?
I could see Walky show up to do it. He’s a bit nutty.
Robin as well, but having her a Blurr like she is on the poster makes too much sense to pass up.
“You’ve have at least two…” You’ve have??
Joel is terrible with English.
Hopefully the neckbeard helps with that problem.
Heh, “Soggies May Rule” reference FTW.
Oh yeah there are two dead people who came back.
1) Ronald Reagan….WTF? How the heck did Galasso bring him back?!
Possibilities are: some type of magical ability, knowing someone in the government who owed him a favor and gave him something to bring him back with, found one of the pieces of reincarnation equipment in a garage sale. (I like this idea the most, it just seems right.)
2) Mike. O_o…you know what there is no reason to question how mike got back, he is just back. The comic needs “Mike” in it to give it true character.
My money is on Ronnie and Ethan being androids.
So, Ethan is a homosexual android? Fascinating.
It isn’t technically homosexuality if you’re a different, non-gendered species.
Though “homo” could be short for “homo sapiens,” so it might still be applicable. Doesn’t cover why he’s only attracted to human males, though.
…but this DOES explain his fascination with Transformers.
“That guy, Ronnie, is really a robot. And you’re his co-worker. So, that makes you…a gay robot.”
“…yeah…that’s right…I’m a gay robot.”
Is the kid going to grow up being more like Mike or Amber?
Yes.
Let me rephrase. Is it going to grow up being more like Mike than Amber or more like Amber than Mike.
That seems likely to me.
GAH. I forgot the question mark.
I don’t think that stopped Funky Cancercancer and Crankshaft, which supposedly take place in interlinking timelines.
The Funkiverse does not reference pop culture even 1% as much as I do.
Suddenly I want to see a Shortpacked! animated film.
