Hey, look! T Campbell did up a Shortpacked!-themed crossword puzzle for everyone! I was sorta saving it for the “anniversary,” but then I forgot, and now here it is today instead.
It’s pretty tough, but fun.

Did she really translate from Mike-speak?
I guess they’re made for each other… o_o
I kind of got the feeling that it was almost more of a test than a proposal – looks like she passed with flying colors (and lunch)
Well green is the colour of passing.
I’m putting my money on pregnant.
I’m betting food poisoning. Nothing Willis has done for the past week has been what we expected, why change that now?
Nerves can most certainly do it, too. Has happened to me before. Okay, once. But it was definitely nerves.
I can’t wait for the strip of Mike rushing to the hospital and seeing Amber laying on a gurney crying.. and for 4chan to get ahold on it..
“…and Faz is the father.”
HURL
Hm… so it had absolutely nothing to do with his method of proposal?
<_< I'm getting on the Amber is Pregnant bandwagon.
Amber is psychotic, it’s official.
She works at Shortpacked, so some mental condition is probably fair to presume.
Shortpacked: A mental disorder is not required for employment. Having one, however, is of distinct benefit!
According to canon, the only thing required to work at Shortpacked is to not steal toys from the store.
I doubt it’s pregnancy. I think it’s just nerves, or nervousness or whatever. Either way, I expected this and am actually glad about it >_>
Oh, I didn’t see yesterdays strip apparently >_>
Either way… yay!
Like a beautiful princess with food poisoning. Beautiful food poisoning.
beautifully beautiful
Metaphors are piling on one another in a huge heap. Brave heart, or intestinal fortitude?
Braveheart, Teg–erm, Amber!
Yah a who fan and apparently amber can see past the recorder and just heard what it was trying to say not what they were meaning she is made for mike!! I think its just nerves! Or pregnant…
a;lskdjfalkdsf
Damn you, Willis!
I want to know what she’s going to say to Mike!
She’s going to say yes. She’s the one that brought up marriage in the first place, and has shown no signs of second thoughts (until now). I doubt a few seconds of feeling ill will make her change her mind.
go to the previous comic.
Oh, I saw that already, but I’m assuming there’s going to be an Amber speech.
Which is what I’m waiting for ^^
I have been waiting all day for this. I think your webcomic is hypnotizing me. In any case, I’m loving this arc.
If she’s pregnant, I hope it’s twins. I want to see some fallout from that “second born” promise.
Wahahahaha, good elbow jab, Leslie
I’m just so incredibly amused that it was only nerves. (/possible pregnancy whatevs)
Y’know, if Leslie actually manages to condition good behavior into Malaya, I might be in favor of their relationship. Might.
That’s probably going to take enough negative reinforcement that it’s just shy of abuse.
Negative reinforcement is when you take away an unfavorable condition, such as pain; as opposed to when you add a favorable condition, which is positive reinforcement.
When you create an unfavorable condition or take away a favorable one, it’s called punishment.
So what you’re talking about is punishment, not negative reinforcement.
Remember,
Positive=adding stimulus.
Negative=taking away stimulus.
Reinforcement=good.
Punishment=bad.
Example: Mike positively reinforces your mother’s sexual habits with a nickel.
Good point. Negative reinforcement would be if Leslie just hit Malaya all the time for no particular reason. And then did not hit her if she did something good, like be sensitive to a friend’s needs. So… let’s hope Leslie starts practicing negative reinforcement!
Shhh, we don’t call it punishment anymore. Now it’s “aversion therapy.”
You learned it where you can just use punishment to define decreasing an action?
I was forced to learn it where positive punishment = adding a stimulus to decrease action and negative punishment = removing stimulus to decrease action…
<__> Hush
And maybe positive reinforcement for good behavior? (aka bribing with sex)
(not sure if that meets the technical definition of reinforcement but w/e)
Ha! Malaya finally said something that made me like her/laugh. Still a jerk, but funny now!
I love the Amber-and-Mike dynamic, but now I can’t help but wonder…did she translate, or did her mind just actually block out what he did to propose. “I don’t know what happened. I suddenly felt incredibly nervous.” Because the guy proposed to you with the sex-sounds of your mother and your friend doin’ it? And she can’t imagine why her breakfast needed to evacuate?
Mazel tov! Yes, I like this. I require more of this Malaya to be sure, but I may like her.
I thought the exact same thing! That’s the only way her reaction makes any sense to me! She is just way too chipper.
It could just be nerves. This is a person with incredibly low self esteem after all. Remember how hard it was for her to believe that mike loved her after he said it? Being proposed to is a big thing for somebody like her.
As for dickish behavior… it’s to be expected from Mike.
._. Not every time a lady gets sick it’s morning sickness, people.
No, but sadly there’s a perception, especially in fiction.
Oh heavens, fetch the vapors!
Even by fictional characters…
http://www.itswalky.com/d/19991210.html
Speaking of which, I don’t think that marriage proposal was ever followed up on, even before Mary did got married to that doctor. Odd. Could’ve been funny.
But she was pregnant. I thought we found that out later.
Or dying!
THIS. Morning sickness didn’t even cross my mind until I saw people commenting about it here. Cis women are not these pristinely healthy and constantly gorgeous creatures who only get sick when they’re harbouring a cluster of cells that slowly grows into a fetus. We get colds, flus, pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, and everything else.
I’m in agreement actually. >_> One of my friends is convinced it’s pregnancy because of her comment about the pizza stench being overwhelming and Jacob and Ethan being fairly unphased by it.
I don’t know why I thought it really… >_>
I know! I mean, I swear…
It’s got to be some manifestation of shipping goggles. I just don’t know what to call it.
Man ain’t THAT the truth. Trust me, every time you get sick and are a young woman, SOMEONE will suggest you’re pregnant. Which is just .. lord… frustrating.
Yes, yes it is. That or when you’re craving something… “Ohh pregnancy cravings, huh?” ಠ_ಠ
Btw, great avatar. I <3 Oglaf.
There are also that kind of young women who feel sick, go to a gastro Dr., swear they’re virgin, and when the bloodwork returns from the lab: yep, pregnant.
My mom treated one such case in her practice.
-airfox
The amount of women who do that are such an incredibly small percentage that I don’t know how that affects anything said. Yes, it happens but it doesn’t change anything.
I would have said “like Bulimic Barbie” but Malaya’s first comment makes more sense.
Wow, that person who called nausea on account of a Trix yogurt commercial had it right!
I do hope it’s food poisoning. I love Mike and Amber together, but as parents? ANfrgrgrgh NO. One thing for two consenting, differently-normal adults to love slamdancing together through life, but a little kid in that? BIG NO.
…I think Mike would have taken being puked on as a “yes”, though.
Aw, man, I hope they kiss in the next strip. (Vomit kiss!)
After a proposal like that, it’s the perfect way to say yes!
I lov—BBBLLLAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHH
Laughed SO hard at that sound effect
Bloody, too. Nothing say lovin’ like sharing a bloody vomit kiss with you dear one.
Vomit Kissing: The Ultimate Sloppy Seconds.
Vomit on one side, blood on the other.
Truly a romance for the ages
Also, I doubt it’s pregnancy… And if it is, those kids are going to be severely fucked up.
…Well, it was nerves?
I think this was really the final test of the relationship.
ladies and gentlemen I shall not say Damn you Willis.
I shall say thank you Willis!
I’m beyond confused about this whole relationship. But for some psychotic reason I’m fascinated by it. Sort of like watching a car race to see the crashes. It makes me question my sanity as well as Amber’s and Mike’s. *gets out the bullhorn* DAMN YOU WILLIS!
Okay did she just…did she just maybe somehow not HEAR the story he was telling her? Like it was so horrible the words went inside her ears but it didn’t quite click in her brain and the only thing that registered was the fact that he was proposing?
That’s the only thing I can think of. Did she not just hear that he basically used Jacob and her mother for no other point than to be an asshole? I know that Mike usually does it to uncover people who are either hypocrites or deep down assholes themselves, but I never saw that in either Jacob or Amber’s mom. Especially with Jacob, since he realized he had problems and was trying to deal with them. It’s hard to feel sorry for Amber and Mike anymore.
I think it registered. I think she just doesn’t want to think or talk about it more than absolutely necessary.
See Saturday comic? She knew already.
I read that as “I already knew that you loved” or somesuch, not “I already knew what you did to Jacob”.
She probably heard, and she still doesnt care.
She said she already knew about it. She’d figured it out and moved on already, and this is not that big of a deal to her.
No, I’m pretty sure what she figured out was that Mike loved her, not what he did to Jacob. I’m also betting that her reaction was because of what he did and not due to nerves. She just doesn’t want to admit it.
Silly Amber, not acting like a boss yet. You just get someone else to clean the puke up, that is what minions are good for.
I can imagine Mike’s reaction to Amber being pregnant, it is likely to involve coathangers.
So the fact that Jacob has been having sex with her mother and Mike used a mix tape of her mother’s own moaning as a marriage proposal has nothing to do with her being sick?? Of course not, it’s not like that’s a disturbing thought or anything. She’s just nervous. >_>
Either amber is blocking out what she just heard and saw (seems pretty likely), or she’s even more damaged than anyone thought.
I vote for both
Objectively – and I’m by no means making assumptions – Jacob banging Amber’s mom wasn’t a bad thing, and she doesn’t see it as such. Hell I don’t. She’s a single woman who hasn’t had a good time in what can be assumed in a while, and she clearly had fun with Jacob, which made her happy, which I can assume is what Amber is happy about. It’s what I’d be happy about. On a higher level it’s a good thing and Amber understands that. I don’t understand all the ‘OH AMBER IS PSYCHOTIC’ things becuase she knows Mike. There is a method to the madness. Sexual exploration is healthy and I’ll be dammned if people are going to blame Mike for two people having a good time. It’s a weird form of slutshaming.
Except you’re forgetting that Jacob has a problem with sex addiction, which whether or not you believe that’s a true addiction, Jacob certainly feels that way, and as we saw in the prior day’s strips he has not been the same since. Amber’s mom certainly does have every right to have a good time and enjoy herself, but I’m sure that if Jacob heard what Mike did, he would not be quite as amused.
You know I don’t care if people pair Amber and Mike, but I really wish they’d stop acting like what Mike did was OKAY! Jacob obviously didn’t have a “good time”; he’s a sex addict – sex stopped being a good time awhile back. Now it’s a painful attempt to fill some imaginary void – something he can not stop.
Slut-shaming? Having fun? What does this have to do with what Amber’s mom did? I assume you’re taking this based on the perception of Amber’s mother…
Did she know what Jacob was going through or is it just that because Jacob’s a man he must love being a sex addict!? Seems to me most people ignore how Jacob feels on the subject because “hey all guys LOVE sex right?”
Jacob is a sex addict; he is not having sex for FUN, he’s doing it because he can’t help himself! Being a sex addict isn’t ‘having a good time!’ Like any addiction it’s painful, empty, and depressing. Not that you give a damn as long as MIKE doesn’t look bad!
Stop trying to paint a rosy wonderful picture of Mike – I like jerkass Mike just the way he is!!! If he gets together with Amber or not then let him still be a jerkass – if he learns not to be such a jerkass let that be from personal growth and not because people like YOU try to justify and ignore every bad thing he does!
I’m sorry if I’m being harsh, but damn I like Mike and I’m tired of the ‘Mike isn’t so bad and I can prove it by blaming everyone who isn‘t Mike for what Mike did’ crap!
I don’t think Diaxiann said anything to indicate that Mike didn’t massively fuck over Jacob in all this.
Let’s be real though. Contributing to an addicts spiraling cycle of self destruction is hardly the worst thing Mike’s ever done to anybody. Pretty far down on the list, but not far enough to be considered atypical of Mike.
I think Diaxiann went about saying it a little poorly, and took some odd angles with it, but ultimately is just saying what I’ve been saying since day 1. Amber isn’t necessarily freaked out by her mom having sex. Not everyone has that hangup.
If anything I really do believe that as far as her mother is concerned, Amber would just be glad to hear she’s back on the field having with people who… you know, don’t abuse her and shit. It means that just like Amber, her mom is recovering and pulling her life together.
As far as Jacob is concerned, did she ever expect Mike to be helpful there? Probably not pleased by it, but probably not the biggest thing on her mind right now in light of being proposed to.
“I don’t think Diaxiann said anything to indicate that Mike didn’t massively fuck over Jacob in all this.”
Yeah, he only said that it wasn’t a bad thing and that it was healthy… Oh, wait, those things are completely untrue.
I’m giving the Diaxiann the benefit of a doubt and assuming that was referring to Amber’s mom rather than Jacob. It would be in like with the comments on later comments on slut shaming which, while an odd angle to take and also quite incorrect (the parental sex stigma usually applies to fathers as well), wouldn’t apply to Jacob either.
Besides which, there’s a case to be made that what Amber’s mom was doing was indeed sexual exploration. What Jacob was doing wasn’t exploratory at all. He was just continuing to be consumed by his addiction. The term doesn’t apply to him at all, so I really do believe that Diaxiann was talking about Amber’s mom.
At the very least I don’t feel there’s sufficient grounds to make an accusation to the contrary.
*in line
“It would be in like with the comments on later comments”
Goddam I should have proofread that.
In fairness, while what he did was a REALLY bad thing to do, people are acting like Mike made Jacob relapse. IIRC (I’m not reading all the way back through now) Jacob had already started bringing a bunch of girls into his apartment. What Mike did was basically like handing a cigarette to a chain smoker.
Just skimmed through the archives and it’s hard to tell actually.
We see him in this scene.
http://www.shortpacked.com/2010/comic/book-12/01-dominus-jacobus/anyone/
And then we don’t see him again until this moment.
http://www.shortpacked.com/2010/comic/book-12/01-dominus-jacobus/ohmy/
Now he’s gone and taken to the drink at this point, so that’s a bit of a relapse into his addictive behavior, but there’s no mention of him relapsing into sex specifically before that and while I wasn’t checking the times I think that first page might have taken place earlier in the same day as the second.
In which case Mike actually did get him in a moment of weakness and vulnerability. He’d started drinking and Mike gave him that extra nudge in the wrong direction, or whatever metaphor you wanna use.
Not that I personally feel either scenario is significantly better than the other.
…Yeah, wow post one comment, forget about it, return a day later.
For the record Jacob’s addiction is an entirely different point that I wasn’t adressing at all – I was just talking about Amber’s Mom.
Sure you might like jerkass Mike but I’m not the one writing the comic and as we’ve seen, Amber will alway rationalize what he does because sometimes there is a rationale.
I’ll give you that sex is perfectly healthy in the general normative case, but compulsive behavior, which Jacob exhibits in several ways including Hypersexuality, compulsive buying and hoarding, is very much not healthy nor is he anything like normative. This is especially true when it’s to the point of causing emotional distress and/or impairing social functioning, as is also true in Jacob’s case. There is ample evidence that what happened isn’t a good thing for Jacob in the short term, but if it causes him to ultimately get the help of a quality mental health professional it may be in the long term, as with the obvious sudden relapse into such behavior patterns over one incident he hasn’t had any good quality treatment for his problems.
If Amber accepts Mike’s proposal, they are going to set some some sort of record for most awkward/embarrassing engagement story.
For full effect, they need to tell it to their future children (or nieces, nephews, or that little brat who lives down the block) as frequently as possible.
Specifically, every time Grandma is visiting…
Whether she says yes or no, she has completely beaten the dark side of Mike. She left out of concern for him when he was hurting her at her most vulnerable, and now she is going to go back in to face him rather than run. He has nothing left he can do that would affect her. If there can be said to be rules to the game Mike plays, Amber wins.
Maybe he’ll do the brave thing and just break up with her instead. Big “maybe” but I can see him giving up on the whole blackmail thing and just deciding he’s DONE. Who knows?
Don’t bring up the blackmail. People will put your head on a pike as a warning to others bringing up the same topic. Suffice to say, that has not been a factor in their relationship for some time, and you should look through the archives if you have forgotten that.
Dude, Amber released Mike from the blackmail a year ago.
http://www.shortpacked.com/2010/comic/book-11/02-the-relationshipocalypse/matters-2/
I really doubt Amber is pregnant. But if so, then does that mean Shortpacked is going the way of Scrubs? (All the main characters ending up with children).
Still, damn Willis. Way to draw this out. I’m going to be staying up to midnight day after day, dying of curiosity over what happens.
Finished the crossword without having to cheat. Took me less than an hour. It was fun, but not at all tough. Then again, half of the puzzle was a satire of terms commonly found in every crossword.
Holy crap what if she had to vomit and was thinking what does she do, does she vomit on him or run outside and vomit and going over all it in her head she probably didn’t hear the story meaning that she made a decision to go outside.
This is exactly the bus I’m riding. I can’t imagine completely shrugging off Mike’s words unless they just didn’t register at the time.
Maybe she’s just saying this because she doesn’t want to spread the Jacob/Mom story any further? That’s the first thing I thought, that what she’s saying is what she’s currently comfortable with them knowing.
Also, yay for the first bit of Malaya jerkitude that made me laugh rather than want to strangle her!
That’s a good thought. Maybe she is trying to hide that. She doesn’t know Malaya that well, and Malaya is standing there, and maybe it’s so new she wouldn’t want to spill the beans.
So she wasn’t freaked out because of her mom and Jacob, or that Mike has orchestrated this whole thing. She was freaked out because Mike simply proposed like she wanted? Heh. Nice one.
Called it. Out of pure desperation, in an attempt to deny the shocking facts, but I did.
Dear Mr. Willis,
You are my favorite. My favorite favorite. I’ve been missing the Mike/Amber storyline and you give us this! You sir, are brilliant and delightful and entertaining, so thank you very much!
Yours truly,
a Fan
—————————-
HEY, ERRBODY! LET’S GO TO THE SHORTPACKED! MERCH PAGE AND CELEBRATE.
Now I really can’t wait to see what’s going to happen between Mike and Amber O_O
Hey1 Amber does look good with the glasses off.
I’m honestly surprised by how many people don’t realize that Amber’s not a good person. Not bad, but…
No one in this comic is a good person. Except Leslie.
It’s webcomic sitcom, basically. No character in a sitcom is a good person.
What about Drew?
Even Leslie is a passive-aggressive little bitch. At this point Ethan still holds the good-person slot, although it’s hidden under hoarder tendencies.
*leaps in the air and does a fistpump* YES!!!
Those two are perfect for each other!
And god knows we need the two of them to hook up and spare everyone else!
… And so I am reluctantly rising my expectations for a ship that survived a storm. I expect them to be dashed quite expertly later but for now… God bless the S.S. Ambermike. May she sail straight and true.
OH SNAP.
Amber, feeling much too sick and distracted at the idea of being proposed to, somehow missed Mike telling her about how he manipulated her mom and neighbor into gettin’ it on.
She walks back in, hugs him and says yes; both Mike and Robin realize she has no idea what he said. Robin, the ONLY WITNESS to the proposal, saw Mike’s face after she punched him and is now torn up between telling Amber the truth about the proposal (and thus the true depths to which Mike is capable of sinking) and allowing Mike to have the woman he really does love, even if it is through sort of a farce (the proposal itself being a bid to drive Amber away for her own sake).
Robin, being Robin, probably tells Leslie or Nathan about it, too, because she’s not too good at thinking things through herself, and then they tell other people. Then while Mike and Amber are planning the wedding everyone else at Shortpacked! is harboring resentment towards it and trying to decide whether Amber should know. For the best possible result, the preacher’s call of “Speak now or forever hold your peace” on the big day is met with Jacob standing up in the pews and saying, “Mike got me to sleep with your mom. You can probably tell, as we are at the same event right now and she’s pretty much all over me.” (This being what is happening, of course.) “…Thought you should know.”
Then Robin says something about the Drama Tag, only furthering her resolve to find it again.
/callin’ it.
Why do you assume she missed everything that Mike did regarding Jacob and her mom? I’m pretty sure she caught all of that, but just didn’t care. After all, its Mike. She HAD to know that if he proposed he’d do something like this. If he proposed any other way, she’s probably have assumed he was drunk. And as for everyone else telling her not to go through with the wedding… I’m pretty sure only Jacob would do that, because he’s in love with her. Everyone else has stood by and watched Amber date Mike, move in with him, and share every aspect of their lives together. I’m pretty sure if they haven’t said anything yet, they won’t say anything at all.
I assume because of the way she said “I don’t know what happened” in response to being asked why she threw up. Maybe she was so nauseated she didn’t hear, maybe her mind blocked it out. And Robin apparently being the only witness to the proposal is just rife for conflict if Amber somehow doesn’t remember it.
These are just storytelling tropes and I’m making a prediction about how this all is going to play out based on them; Shortpacked! would swiftly fall into “fluff” territory if Amber walks up to Mike, says, “I heard you propose to me with my own mother’s orgasmic moans and I don’t care!” and then they go on to be happy and pump out babies and no other point of it is made ever again. That’s about at much fun to watch as a Care Bears cartoon, and Willis is more talented than that.
The “I don’t know what happened” was in regards to why she suddenly felt sick, not her inability to comprehend what Mike did.
And you’re right, Willis is very talented. Which is why I think Amber is fully aware of Mike’s proposal. He’s doing the opposite of what everyone was expecting her to do. They expected her to get freaked out about Amber’s mom and Jacob and the fact Mike was responsible for it but instead she freaked out about the proposal itself.
Having Amber ignore or block out what Mike did is way too convenient to the plot. I think Willis is going to play up the awkwardness of what happened in the story, until it finally explodes or something. As for Mike and Amber being a happy married couple with kids… HA! That’s hilarious, because we all know even if they get married, they’re not going become fluff. Mike is incapable of it and Amber kinda is too. Whatever happens its going not going to be fluff.
Fair enough; it could all be an extreme subversion of how we’d expect Amber to react. We’ll see tomorrow where this is going.
This storyline is killing me. In the best way.
Someday, I will own this story arc in print, and I will hand it to a friend who will be reading it for the first time. I feel sorry that s/he will be migging the wonderful mindfuck it is to build up theories for the next page over the course of an entire day, and then have it completely overthrown when the next page is actually published.
Typo, migging = missing.
Like a beautiful Princess, just not like any of the Disney ones.
Loved the art on this one. Malaya holding Amber’s glasses and Leslie holding her hair back was a nice touch. Also love Amber’s punch drunk expression in the last panel.
One thing though, wouldn’t a Shortpacked employee have to clean the sidewalk right in front of the store? Amber can still be technically correct (as manager, she can have any peon do it) but she would be equally correct inside of the store…
Couldn’t they just use a hose outside?
That would be a job for Faz. As good a use for him as anybody will ever find.
Or they can hire Howard and use his face.
I think a lot of you need to go back and carefully read what the recording of Jacob and Amber’s mom really said.
Aw man! I just did what you said and everything makes more sense now… I knew Amber got the message, but I didn’t realise that we were supposed to get it so clearly too… Heh. Pretty clever!
Aww. She just had a case of the cold feet.
D: I don’t know why but every time I come on this website, it’s not updated. I looks away for one second, it’s updated and tons of people have already commented. :/ I will someday have the first comment. SOMEDAY. In other news, oh…I guess Amber is both happy and sickened by the fact that Mike asked her to marry him. XD What a wonderful feeling. <3 …Let's hope no body in the real world actually faced that.
dawww, i hope he kisses her after she says yes
If Leslie can make Malaya into a likable human being perhaps there is some purpose to the good ship Leslaya. I would still like to see Robin happy tho.
Yeah, okay, this is starting to make sense to me now. Amber’s body knows what her mind still refuses to accept. Leslie only knows that Mike proposed, not how, so her little smile is in character after all. And whatever happens next is not going to be pretty.
Oh, and thanks for the crossword shout-out, man!
Finally… I can finally go to sleep now. *eyetwitch*
Do people really get nervous like that during a marriage proposal…now I’m scared to ask anybody to marry me. @_@ Great, she’s covered in vomit, Mike’s all beat up, what a lovely way to start an engagement. >.<
Maybe Amber is secretly an asshole as well, deep down. Just not as up front about it as Mike is due to her troubled past/gender roles/ whatever.
Cannot two assholes find happiness in this shitty world?
I apologize for that last sentence. No, I don’t.
Looking at the previous comic, she cleaned herself up REAL well.
Yup, I’m betting its BOTH the shock of hearing her Mom and Jacob “going at it like Wild pigs” annnnd that she is carrying Mikes’ seed….In Other Words: AMBERS’ KNOCKED UP!
Wait! Even better….Mike Knocked up Amber, and Jason Knocked up Ambers’ Mom.
Alternately, Amber doesn’t give two fucks about what Mike did and is just excited to be getting married?
It IS a comic strip, not everyone has to treat everything seriously all the time.
I’m with T. Campbell on this one. There is no excuse for what Mike did. It’s not cute; it’s not dismissible because “Hey, Mike’s an asshole, but he’s always been honest about it;” and it’s not ok because “He just set the bait, Jacob didn’t have to take it;” and it DEFINITELY isn’t ok because “he loved Amber after all.” Honestly, if Amber isn’t bothered by what Mike did, both to her and more importantly to Jacob – well, shame on her. I really hate coming off judgemental and I try and avoid judging others in general – but I can’t help it here. I find the whole thing really loathsome, and small, and I can’t help but lose a lot of respect for Amber. (And before anyone points it out – yes, Mike is far worse. But I never had any respect for Mike to lose.)
I think she was Genuienly Disgusted but also A little Impressed he went that far…So Basically she’s nut’s.
Amber’s stayed with Mike through a lot of crap already (didn’t he set someone on fire once?) and has pretty much accepted that she wants to marry the earthly embodiment of Satan to the detriment of herself and all around her. For some twisted reason, I’m rather glad this wasn’t the straw that broke her back.
She’s also shown that she’ll straight up ask to him change his behavior (when they were talking about him being nicer after going out to the bar with Ethan, him willing to be drunk to impress her mother) and will punch him when he crosses the line. So it’ll be interesting to see how she addresses his part in the Jacob situation.
Sideline, about Jacob. It doesn’t excuse Mike manipulating a situation to throw temptation in the face of an addict, but much of Jacob’s misery the last year has come from a refusal/inability to seek help. And a very serious case of putting Amber on a pedestal. He cares about her, but doesn’t seem to respect her all that much. If he’d told Amber about sleeping her mom, it would have saved him an epic amount of guilt. Not that I can’t sympathize with why he didn’t.
I think everyone that thinks she’s glanced over it needs to look at the time stamp. That conversation could not have lasted 3 minutes, so it is very likely she walked in as Robin struck him…. so either she’s will to accept mike being abused without reason or she’s fully aware of what happened and doesn’t care.
I doubt the conversation with Leslie and Malaya is over.
Ah, I feel much better now. I mean seriously, I’ve always felt like the whole reason Mike was genuinely attractive to Amber was the fact that when vaguely threatened by another suitor he was the psychotic who would exert Machiavellian effort to arrange for said wannabe to actually $@*% her mother to ENSURE the threat was neutralized.
Sure, he’s nuts, but someone with Amber’s fragile self-esteem can bear no half measures. She really wants/needs they guy who would kill the whole family and pets of anyone who failed to be suitably enthusiastic about her latest haircut. It allows her to re-evaluate her self worth as it relates to the disproportionately insanely viscous retribution Mike is compelled to deliver.
Oh, crap.
It just hit me how this is poised to blow up in Robin’s face. I can’t believe we all missed it.
Oh shit! She’s the only one who saw how Mike proposed isn’t she?
This is gonna be juicy. Nice catch.
First time I’ve liked Malaya. Her “beautiful princess” line ranks high with Galasso’s “little Robin” comment from a while.

YAY AMBER AND MIKE!!
Suddenly I feel like we’ve all underestimated Amber in the past week. Mike’s an asshole, and she knows it. Heck, she’s lived with him for ages, this probably isn’t as huge of a shocker to her as we assumed.
Knowing Willis, five hours from now the update will occur, and my mind will be totally switched again.
I just couldn’t be more disappointed in the direction this has all gone. I mean, fine, I get it, love is crazy. But…ugh.
Oh lordy she’s so excited about getting proposed to that she’s ignoring the method of proposal. Slightly disappointed.
Now that’s love. A person accepting a proposal even when in the form of an awful and terrible prank. We can only dream of finding love like that.
