The deal with Rachel would have been dealt with in the subscription Joyce and Walky! story, specifically the happenings at the wedding. But that remains unfinished, and I’d been reluctant to talk about it, rather than just very subtly hint that something was off. Plus, well, y’know, this is Shortpacked!, which isn’t about Joe or Walky or Joyce or whoever, and I try not to cross-pollenate too much. But with J&W! kinda having trailed off, you folks at least deserve lip service to her absence, though, so here it is.
Some day it’ll be spelled out. There are hints in the existing J&W! material, but they’re the kind that you wouldn’t notice until after they’re illuminated…

Did Robin just eat that entire sucker stick and all?
Maybe the stick just blends in with the unbelievably very white teeth for someone who eats tons of sweets (even if she’s been genetically enhanced by aliens it’s strange.)
Both me and my friends as a kid always ate the stick, is that considered weird?
Never heard of anyone doing that really.
I still do it… but then again, I guess there are those who could consider me “a kid”.
yay! finally the air is cleared and we know what happened to rachel
@The Sound Defense: it does look that way
Darn! You know how I hate to analyze and speculate!
And aw. She really is his friend, too. And a little of her old sunshine is peeking out.
Agreed. It’s kinda sweet to see her smile again.
Yes, Joe is a sucker. Hm, that’s not what she meant? Eheh…
Outback’s seafood is great, but they load their meat with so much spice that you’re still tasting it three days after eating it.
YES!
I’ve really, really, really wanted to ask about this but I didn’t want to make a pest of myself.
Will there be more to Joyce and Walky’s wedding, or is that really the end? Or is it a placeholder ending, just in case you decide to not do any more?
I literally stopped drawing right in the middle of the story, so there is, in theory, more to the wedding. I just need to get that momentum built up again. I’ll probably have to take another week off at some point. And try not to get terribly sick then, since that’s what ruined the first take.
yeah, not getting sick would be a good thing. usually. and I have this odd feeling that either Joe will be alone at the wedding or have a bunch of cheerleaders with him somehow (i know he was asking walky about it in one strip).
Here’s to hoping… we don’t want you to pull a Josh Philips, ehh?
We already know everyone became lesbians!
Maybe more like pulling a Carson Fire, with the wedding scene that NEVER ENDS.
(Not exactly pulling a Carson Fire, though, because he’s not making excuses for delays by claiming that his “monitor is dying” every other week)
Haha, I like the implication that Windcharger is so rare that even Joe (who owns Toxitron) can’t find it.
So my hunting grounds for Windcharger will now be Walgreens, Kohl’s and Outback Steakhouse.
Oh, so Rachel left during the paid strips?
Not exactly, she was still there as of the wedding. You should buy them if you get the chance, great read.
I’ve been assuming that once he finishes up Joyce and Walky there’ll be some kind of print version I can buy, so I’m holding out for that. No reason to buy the same comic twice eh?
Yeah, definitely been noticing Rachel was gone, or at least being more distant what with Joe casually taking about banging other chicks again. I guess she probably left him considering how edgy they were in the last interactions I remember between them.
Then again, she may have been a casualty in the bloodbath the wedding could still turn out to be.
Willis, you magnificent bastard, now I *have* to buy Joyce and Walky.
As soon as I get through It’s Walky. And Roomies…
HA! I live in New Zealand and found MY Windcharger a week ago! I think I finally beat Willis to one…
Man, I got mine before christmas.
Looks like I might have missed out on the likes of Tracks and Jazz though…
Honestly, I was kind of hoping for Wheeljack catching Jazz jacking off in the robo-shower or something.
And then of course Jazz turns into a Squid out of shame. Because that makes sense. Because robo showers are wet and squids are sea creatures? Maybe?
These ideas WERE in my head but now they are free.
The US really still doesn’t have any Windchargers? Here in Oz we’ve had them for months…
Awesome little figure that one.
Look out, they’ll sue! You’d better edit the strip to read “Fallback Steakhouse.”
He based a character after the smug boy shown in Fazoli restaurant decor, named him Faz Oh-Lee, and Fazoli’s hasn’t sued him about it for years. Because of that and other references to restaurants in past strips, I think Willis is more likely to face damnation than litigation.
I know this does not make sense, but I feel that before this particular arc ends, Robin is going to get Joe’d. Of course Joe is going to have nothing but regrets afterward, but it is going to happen.
Windcharger? Shit, I just found Scourge THIS MORNING.
Thought i forgot about the wedding untill i saw the explenation…
Speaking ’bout windcharger, does anyone have the same problem as me were the inside of his legs are both left legs(the one with the tab on it, it makes the legs next to imposible to slide in)?
DAMMIT WILLIS!
I don’t have money to buy the subscription strips of Joyce and Walky. So after all the reading I went through I’ll still be in the dark. DAAAANM YOOOOU!
Also Robin smiling is rather refreshing 8D
Wait, so Outback Steakhouse isn’t a part of Australia? No wonder they never ask for my passport. What other truths are lies? Tell me!
Best bros, awww :3
Whenever I get the Sal random avatar, I edit my comment so I speak with the accent.
So… who is Rachel?
Rachel was Joe’s steady girlfriend from near the end of It’s Walky. Which is saying something due to Joe’s Joeness.
Something about the way Robin addresses Joe here leads me to think that Joe is blameless, or nearly blameless, with regard to how he and Rachel ended.
Given the previous topic of conversation, he probably didn’t cheat on her, or his comments on the subject would take on a different tone. (I note that Robin does visibly divert the subject from womanizing to facial hair, however.)
Grr, I feel like I’m missing out on everything, gotta buy those Joyce and Walky strips when I get the chance.
You and me both it’s the Subscribtion ones only ones I haven’t read but I really do want to because I love Joyce and Walky so much as characters.
Ok, so here is my question…Is there more to “Joyce and Walky” than the last comic that is posted in the archive’s? I looked at the subscription site but couldn’t tell if there was more. I’m dying to read the rest!!!
Ablargalsdfhm
I was completely unaware of subscription comics until this point.
I’m going to go buy five years of comics now ohh goddammit Willis
I read all the material on itswalky.com and I completely forgot about the pay for J&W strips and was like “Whaaa?”
