Hell the series and movies is just one huge advertisement for child neglect, ignore your child enough and he too can one day pilot a giant robot. It’s how I plan to (not) raise my child.

Ugh.. the last few episodes are the reason I have no respect for Evangelion at all. They went for a philosophy ploy with one of the most bankrupt philosophies every conceived (solipsism).

I liked the ending. Oh, it didn’t do shit for the story, no doubt, but I thought it was supposed to be all about Shinji’s character development anyway.

Didn’t FOX Kids air Evangelion about ten or so years ago? Like, after Digimon? Man, I wish I cared enough to watch the whole series back THEN. Did they just not even skim the series before letting it be aired or something? haha

Ugh! I refuse to watch any more Evangelion after the End of Evangelion movie. I somehow made it through the entire movie, but the utter hopelessness of that movie made me swear off the entire franchise. I have read a couple of Evangelion fanfic in the years since but have stayed away from the anime, including the 2.0 version. (It has something to do with watching Wedding Peach in the Chicago area, driving a couple of hours to my home anime club, then seeing End of Evangelion. UGH!)

It reminds me of the summary of Evangelion. It’s the only knowledge I really have of the series. It consists of the following:
“Shinji, you suck! Get in the robot.”

Except that’d be a different name. The issue is how to spell the long “o” sound. I doesn’t start with a “sh”.

There are standard systems of romanizing Japanese. “Modified Hepburn” is the one usually used in the English-speaking world. Sometimes people ju wing it, though, which I suspect is how “Sohryu” happened, since none of the standard systems would do that.

The best thing is to play a SRW game that includes Eva garbage in it, and never use the pilots or units outside of the stages that force you to use them. And use someone Boss Borot or Fa instead. Burn!

I loved NGE when I first watched it, but I’m not sure I could ever go through that epic mindfuck again. And the animated movie that fittingly ended the series was such a bleak film that ironically it was the perfect ending to such a dark series.

On a brighter note, perfect parody here. Loved it.

I actually got into Eva after I saw some Gundam. My conclusion is that for me it is not enough to have giant robots fighting one another. I require plots that have some sense of coherence. Also, it helps if I’m even slightly emotionally invested in the well-being of any of the characters. Even one likable protoganist does wonders for a series.

I totally preordered this! The rebuild of Evangelion, while very different from the original is less like a rewrite. Most of the events that happened in the TV shows, are still there, but Mari is new, Model 6 being built by Seele on the moon is new, the Beastial mode used by Mari is new, Provisional Model 5 was new; the graphics are way, way better, the characters feel…less tortured souls, and more like characters with issues we can relate to. The only thing that bugs me is the recycled musical score from Kare Kano. It’s still good and brings back a lot of good memories, but I feel they could have done better with the music. Oh yeah, spoiler alert, Rei does (not) become a doll to be replaced.

I think you mean Yoko Kanno.
And the only way they could have done better is if she did merged with Gackt and Joe Higashi. wait, that’s the fatal fury character…sorry, I meant the Princess Mononoke composer Joe Hisaishi.

In any case Yoko is a freakin genius…though the very idea of remaking Eva sounds scary to me. I’ll probably check it out at some point, though.

That is a fun one too. It’s Gendo! feels more appropriate here though, especially given it’s context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPtFxvtfH9I 6:17-8:11.

Browsing those vids, I came across the “Congratulations” bit. WTF is up with that?? Its one of the creepiest (in a Paranoia Agent kind of way) vids I’ve seen in a while. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDajqW561KM&feature=related

Exceptional job with this strip, Willis. It seems like the two times you’ve done something with Evangelion, it’s of an exceptional quality. (Er, not that the rest of your strips aren’t great.)

This is fucking beautiful. Evangelion 2.0 was possibly the greatest anime movie ever created.

I really liked it, but I dunno if I’d go that far.

Shinji would have a heart attack in the film if Gendo showed anywhere near that much love to him in the film or TV series. :D

She tends to do that anyway, though. It’s just more obvious in comic format. ;)

You need to show this strip to Spike Spencer. Albeit he’d get a kick out of it. Tiffany Grant even.

What’s “albeit” doing in that sentence?

I don’t know what it means. I just see it used a lot in the form of “I’ll bet” Live and learn.

That’s…not what it means. At all. It means “although”, “even if”, or “allowing for the fact”. As in: “a pleasant, albeit brief, vacation”.

Oh god, if this had actually happened it would have made the show that much more creepy.
