You couldn’t see him in ROTF ‘cuz he was THAT far undercover.
on May 30, 2011 at 10:44 pmLook, I really have no idea why I picked this guy up. Of all of my Dark of the Moon streetdate purchases, this is probably the one I can least rationalize. Barricade‘s not in a new body. Barricade hasn’t even been seen since the first film, even though they cut out his death so he could show up in the second one. And there’s been no inclination he’s showing up in the third, either. Plus I have a Barricade! And that Barricade comes with friggin’ Frenzy! This Barricade comes with a stupid oversized gun/claw.
But… new Deluxe Class Barricade!
And so he was added to the pile. There are aspects of him that I really like. For example, I like that he’s Barricade. Police cars are awesome. I like that he’s got his stumpy legs and long-ass arms. I like that this one’s head can turn. I like that Frenzy’s absence means the innards of his chest can be dedicated to other things, even if not having Frenzy is lame. Instead of having the hood try to compress into his robot mode chest, there’s just a bit of detail at the front that flips around on a barrel, Battle Armor He-Man style.
What I don’t like is his friggin’ feet. They’re on reeeeally shallow hinges, so if you push his ankles just a millimeter the wrong direction, they pop right out. This happens constantly, and it happens even more when you’re trying to figure out his leg positioning. It’s kind of really stupid.
And less stupid, but still sort of annoying, is how his feet get shoved into the middle of him on the way back into car mode. It’s a very very tight fit. Excessive force may be required.
And even less stupid, and mostly ignorable, is how his MechTech weapon doesn’t fit very well into his hand. His hand is articulated at the palm, so it’s rough to get the palm to securely hold onto the 5mm peg. Also, the MechTech weapon is kind of dumb (a claw), but that’s why this is mostly ignorable.
That sounds like a lot of negatives versus the positives, but it’s harder to enumerate the ways that he looks pretty cool. And he’s Barricade.

Man, I really want a classics Barricade to be a Decepticon Prowl. But this just isn’t gonna fly. He’s just not enough of an improvement over Movie 1 Barricade. Which is quite an achivement when I think about how dodgy Barricade 1′s arm locking mechanism is these days.
I want a Classics Barricade to be a Classics Barricade.
(Frankly, evil Prowl is just Shockwave.)
More of an evil counterpart, rather than a direct “Shattered Glass” style Prowl… but evil.
Human Alliance Barricade is all that I need.
I flip his arm around and attach the mech tech weapon to the back of the wheel. his weapon keeps getting jammed in “claw” mode too.
I agree with some others, even if they made a leader class Barricade, I don’t see how it could be better than Human Alliance Barricade
This Barricade continues the fine tradition of Barricade’s “this toy is good, but…”.
For instance, standing stock still? TOTALLY looks like a goober. But fiddle with his legs, get him in a really neat pose, and he comes to life so much. I once had in this really aggressive lean like he was ready to pounce on you like an animal, and it just was amazing it came from the same toy that if you stand up normally has massive birthing hips and arms that don’t lock into place.
I’m actually not really a Transformers collector, but if I were to get one, it would be Barricade (I used to love my toy police cars as a kid). And if I were to get one, would I want this one or Human Alliance?
I haven’t noticed the ankles popping out – maybe that’s just a bug in the particular one you got.
(I do need excessive force to store the feet, though.)
the feet pop out on mine all the time, mostly when transforming, but after it popped out when transforming a few times, it continued to pop out when I wasn’t transforming
Huh, guess I just got lucky then. That or it’s only a matter of time.
His vehicle mode looks pretty cool.
I already got one black Decepticon with a claw weapon(Crankcase) so I probably won’t get this guy. Incidently Crankcase is totally an insecticon, he’s got stag beetle horns for pete sake!
I swear I saw Barricade in ROTF. They only showed him for about a second. He was on top of a sky scraper after Megatron told all the Decepticons to reveal themselves.
That was Mixmaster.
It seems like the DOTM versions of the toys have a lot of little annoying issues or is that just par for the course with the more complex Transformers?
having two actual hands and a turning head are big pluses, but I can’t over the skinny legs sticking out from his giant cargo shorts (am I the only one that sees it?)
having passed on previous Barricades, is this the one worth getting?
