Hi, this is Maggie!
So for the first time in my life, I went to McDonald’s to buy toys at 10:00am on the Friday they came out. My first trip to the nearest McDonald’s was a hit; they had two of the McYoung Justice toys I craved.
Unfortunately (?), they were Superboy and Superman. I mean, that’s cool: I’m totally getting them all, but those who know me understand who really makes my clock tick. Oh well. The search continues!
So, while toting my husband to the Urgent Care center for his bronchitis, I interrupted our trip twice to check other McDonalds near the doctor’s office, as all good wives should. Sadly, either they only had more Superpeople, or they hadn’t gotten the toys in at all.
Anyway, I am whelmed by the toys! Maybe I had really low expectations (and I did, in fact), but the molds are relatively show accurate and detailed. Superman’s head’s a wee small, but he can’t seem to brain in the show anyway.
Superboy’s red symbol on his chest lights up red and so do his eyes. This is a little weird because it’s a plot point that he doesn’t have all of Superman’s powers, including the ability to fly and heat vision. Superman’s head tilts down a little so that he can condescend to Superboy.
They each have a nifty button on the back that makes them punch things. Superman raises two arms, and Superboy punches with just one. If Superboy didn’t feel inferior before now his only dream is to one day to punch with both arms instead of one. POOR SB WE STILL LOVE YOU.
Overall excited for the rest!

It’s good to see that David has someone to continue the toy collecting posts if he doesn’t make it through the ECCC plague.
Eh, he’s fine now.
Superman’s arms raise like he’s taking off to fly (this is also why the head tilts back… so he looks “forward” when he’s flying) and the packaging indicates the red eyes are his X-ray vision… Hope I didn’t just expose my inability to appreciate some joke I didn’t get with this comment. Also, my daughter just held her superman up to the screen and said “It’s the same!” which was cute… so I thought I’d share.
/daw. I didn’t notice that Supey had x-ray vision! It must have come up in the pilot? I haven’t seen that in a while.
SB did something in the most recent episode to “see” invisible people, though I’m not sure it’s the same thing as x-ray vision (actually, I think seeing invisible things is the opposite of x-ray vision…). Sort-of a thermal vision, I guess.
Yeah, now that you mention it, he did it in Drop Zone as well. I don’t know if his eyes lit up or not, but there you go.
I”d be more inclined to think that SB is *more* powerful than Big Red S because he only has to use *one* arm to clobber baddies… <_<
Good review, Mags! =)
Gotta say, these are looking like some good little figures. My only complaint is the fact that there's no Ms. Martian or Artemis. Yeah yeah yeah, this is the "Boys" side of the Happy Meal, and boys don't tend to play with "girlie" items… but c'mon! Whatever happened to "equality?" =/
Yeah, it sucks. :/
I didn’t know they had Young Justice toys at McDonalds! Time to eat at McDonalds again for the first time in 5 years!
YAY THE MORE YOU KNOW *rainbowSTAR*
Superman with condescending action? Sold!
Supey is the best daddy. (no)
Good thing Superboy canonically has two, then. Unless the cartoon has messed with the comics even more than I’ve been led to believe.
The cartoon is almost nothing like the comic right now IIRC. Wally and Dick were never in YJ, right? This is more like a Teen Titans called YJ (+ Superboy and Miss Martian? Or was she TT?). I dunno. I’m a DC fan baby.
Have they established that Robin is Dick? I’m not caught up from my DVR.
Miss Martian is from the recent roster of Teen Titans. She seems to be in Wonder Girl’s place, what with the crush on SB. And, I think everyone is assuming Artemis is in Arrowette’s place.
Original Young Justice team was Impulse, Superboy, and Robin (Tim). Almost immediately they added Wonder Girl, Arrowette, and Secret.
I am getting quite annoyed with the, “Hello-o-o-o-o, Megan” catch phrase.
Theno
@ Thenodrin: Yes, it’s Word of God that he’s Dick even though he has Tim’s computer skills – and creepy Joker laugh (ok, not funny, sorry, DCAU fans). Alfred called him “Master Richard” in the episode Downtime.
Arrowette does still exist elsewhere on Earth-16, apparently, and Artemis isn’t a new character for the show. Again, her ID is basically revealed in Downtime.
So yeah, the more I hear, the more it sounds like TT renamed YJ, given MM and the next new character showing up, ah heh.
There are rumors of WG and Secret though (don’t tell me anything about Secret – I’ve vowed to avoid all spoilers and ep summaries from now on b/c it kinda made the last ep a less fun than it would have been if I didn’t know what was going on).
I also hate “Hello, Megan” with the heat of a thousand suns.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH You mean his second DADDY. /derp I have no idea if they’re going there, but it would be a distinct possibility. They pretty much have to, don’t you think?
these toys are all fine and good, but will they have the flaming C?
Your only option is to cover your filthy torso with a Flaming C tshirt.
This version of YJ is from a different Earth in the multiverse (Earth 16 I think) so it has room to differ in continuity from the comics and other cartoons. (Back in the day, (ok the 60′s yes I’m old) cartoons were simplistic enough that continuity didn’t even matter.)
Cool figures. I might hit McD in hopes of getting Superboy, and pretend it’s actually Connor. (As good as the show is, I’m still mentally substituting Tim for Dick and Bart for Wally.)
Does that work? I heard they were really different …
Completely different personalities, but they’re pretty much identical, allowing for artistic difference.
