On this day in 1988, “I Risk My Life For Earth” first aired in Japan. It was an episode of Headmasters, Japan’s first domestic Transformers series.
It is not a great episode.
However, Omni Productions dubbed it into something resembling English for Malaysia and Singapore. It is through this dub that the episode becomes fantastic. I give you: “Life Can Be Sacrificed for Peace on Earth.”
And just think, it could have been even better. The dialog scripts for these episodes called Scorponok “Chandler.” Yes. Chandler.
Man, Trypticon is a ninja. Or Batman. How else could he sneak around un-noticed until he actually attacked?
I’m Scorponok, could I BE wearing anymore Zaraks?!

For a while it was no worse than any of the other bad anime dubs I saw in the 80s, and then the fight at the end of the first part happened and it became hilarious!

No.
Ugh. I’m from Singapore and I actually bought this dubbed version at stores. I stopped after 5 or 6 episodes. There’s an official chinese dub on the disc too. They call Kup…..CUP in chinese.
I facepalmed.
I love how in Headmasters the increasing anime-ness often sits very awkwardly with the westerness of the original designs. The show is fighting itself.
