The first of the BotCon 2012 toys has been revealed! Whether you hate or love this guy seems to depend on what forum you’re on, but let me present my feelings. Because this is my blog! It’s what you’re here for!
Overlord is ROTF Bludgeon with a new head. I really really love the ROTF Bludgeon toy. I also really like Overlord, mostly (okay, only) after his big showing in Last Stand of the Wreckers. So on the face of it, this is great news.
I am not entirely sold on him being a samurai. Since I’m only familiar with LSOTW Overlord, I think of Overlord as this evil crazy immoral jerkwad, and samurais are usually portrayed as honorable warriors. And so there’s a characterization dissonance here, for me.
However, this is how my brain has coped with this. We all know Overlord got all skeletonized (yet still operational) by Ironfist at the end of Last Stand of the Wreckers. In my personal canon, this is the body Overlord has after this event, after having pieced together new body panels to cover himself up like patchwork. The head is a perfect match for Nick Roche’s rendition, so that helps smooth things over. So very pouty.
I don’t have an Overlord, but I’m gonna! And he’s gonna be a monster. A pouty monster.
Damn you, Willis! That’s a GOOD explination for why Overlord’s a samurai, and I’d almost managed to talk myself out of trying to grab a set just for him because he’s NOT a samurai. I don’t expect the SG dudes to inspire much want in me, but I worry about Metalhawk making me bite the bullet…
Same here. I’ve already got Bludgeon so don’t really need another version of that mold plus I’ve also got G1 Overlord so I’m good there, but with this new idea planted in my brain I can’t help but feel that I need the BotCon one now.
And one more. I was totally fine with not wanting this before now.
My brain also instantly thought post-LSOTW Overlord when the announcement was made.
Well, his shoulders do resemble the ones he had in LSTW. I just want to snap a photo of Overlord and Animated Optimus Prime going face to face about who’s got the most awesome lips.

Ah, great cannon explanation. I’m not a fan of the mold, but Jerkwad McTyrant is a pretty awesome character to add to the collection. He should come with Springer’s face as an accessory.
You don’t have a G1 Overlord? Hmm…. I have a spare… And I need some Botcon Stunticons…
I’m keeping my BotCon Stunticons. I’d rather have them than an Overlord. Especially since I’m just about to get one!
