I got the little Optimus set. There wasn't much choice at my local Toys R Us. I wanted a set with Kreons but the only choices were Jazz and giant Bumblebee and neither appeal to me. I'm holding out for Ratchet or Megatron.

Optimus is too lanky as a robot and a bit too narrow as a truck, but if you modify the model just a little bit to make room for two of the elbow joint pieces you can fit all the pieces but the head into truck mode! Really saves on the clutter. The truck is good enough but I'll refrain from turning it into a robot again :p might get the little bumblebee next.

I have the Jazz set and the Botcon Prime. Still not sure what to think. The little guys were adorable but Jazz felt like a bit of a mess in both modes.

Where else can you take interlocking building blocks that are marketed as 'compatible with major brands'?

Kre-O, it leaves me with confused feelings. I'm against third-party standalone characters. Those ninja insecticons, NotDevastator, Seaspray/Powerglide from whatever 2 companies are making them now, etc. If it didn't latch on to a Hasbro toy you had to buy I wasn't going to buy it. You're ripping off someone else's intellectual property for mass-production. Customs/Garage kits are fine, those are produced in negligible numbers. But pumping out copies of Ironhide that looks exactly like G1 Ironhide when you're not Hasbro is a no-no.

Now Kre-o. They're obviously lego. They attach to lego. They're basically mass-produced Lego bootlegs that are set up so you can build Hasbro Transformers characters with them. We could already do this with Legos. While Lego's patent expired on their building blocks, shouldn't Hasbro at least try to mix things up a bit? Except for the hollowed out circles on some bricks I can't even tell the difference.

Maybe the robot duplicates are like human sized avatars? Or maybe the Kre-O continuity transformers are hive-mind beings made of multiple pieces and the human sized versions are just one expression of that hive mind to deal with humans.

Transformers Replicator?!

I always found it interesting that the G.I. Joe BTR toys got a new character. New mold, new everything. (I think he even had a biocard.)

The TF ones were just sad though.

Yeah, transformable legoid kits would be a much more impressive engineering feat. Especially since the parts could be reused in combination with real Lego to try to design your own or do crazy Mindstorms tricks or whatever.

Ouch. It was obvious from the first pics anywhere that these Kre-O sets were going to put BTR to shame, but putting them together in one pic like that? It's just painful to look at. Kind of like Energon Ironhide's embarrassing everything-from-the-neck-up, only it's THE WHOLE FIGURE.
