Today was a good a day as any, I suppose, to address what some folks had been pestering me about for the past few months. They wanted access to old Joyce & Walky! subscription-only months. But I took down that access way back when because it felt wrong to accumulate subscriptions while the project was on hiatus. That storyline has kind of burnt a hole in my brain and so I’ve avoided finishing off the last few strips.
But days and months have gone by and no progress, so I figgered, oh, fine, what the hell, I’ll let folks buy old months again. So those are up in the store. You can get either the first half, the second half, or the complete(ish) series. Maybe the influx of interest might jostle me into finishing it up. Subscription numbers had so dwindled in the end that it felt like I was sorta sending them off into the void. That’s why I prefer the free comic strip model. It’s open to everyone, and so there’s more of a tangible sense that folks are enjoying things. The more feedback, the more of a sense of accountability there is.
Procrastinators like me need a sense of accountability. With Shortpacked! reaching six years old today, I thank you folks for, unwittingly, keeping my balls to the fire.

apparently holding them to something like a Van der Graaff generator is more effective
Yay, I can finally read about that story. I’m addiced to the Walkyverse.
Any chance of getting them in book format?
Would love to read them but would kinda prefer having them printed in some physical medium I can purchase.
It’s something I definitely want to do. It has to take a back seat to my other book collections, though. Maybe after I clone myself.
I’m with the General. I don’t mind paying for your work seeing how it’s amazing, but my real problem is while I want to read the story now I would probably want to buy it along with the other Walky stories in book format. And I really don’t want to buy the same thing twice.
I’ve read the whole archives in my student-with-no-money days. Now that I’m a “grown up” (supposedly), I wouldn’t mind access to the paid-for archives.
Though my preference would be to pay a less-than-premium lump sum, and get access to the completed storyline (once it is completed, of course).
I am not sure what you mean by the absence of a “less-than-premium lump sum.” The whole of J&W! used to be $108 (54 months at $2 per month), and starting today you can get that same thing for $45. If anything, that’s a deal so fantastic I’m surprised that old subscribers haven’t come to punch me in the face yet.
The last strip posted was the one where Walky was kicking his pants off, right? That’s the last one I saw, but I’m not sure if it petered out there or I missed another month or two. Either way, I think I’ll wait until the whole thing is completed to order again. I do hope that happens. You’re usually pretty good at getting things done.
There’s more after that. I sent another email of links to everyone today to make sure they got them, but either it bounced back from you or it’s in your spam folder.
Regardless, you don’t need to buy any more. All of the folks who got the page you mention are grandfathered into receiving the final page. Send me an email and I’ll get you the links.
Oop, I got it. Thanks. I just need to remember to check my e-mail BEFORE asking questions like this. Gah
6 years? Seriously? I feel so oooold. Even though I’m not old, yet. But it seems like only yesterday that I was curled up in a ball, unsure of what to do next, now that IW! had ended. What have I done with my life!?
You think you feel old? I’m thinking about how long it’s been since I started reading It’s Walky! on… November 30, 2003? Naw, that can’t be right… can it?
WANTWANTWANT. but my dog just had a HUGE lifesaving operation, and ill be paying that off for the rest of my life. ALAS there is no money for J&W which breaks my heart
It kind of sadden me to see Joyce and Sal hatting each other. I mean, at the beginning, they where great friend and Joyce only started hating when she remembered Sal was the love interest of Danny. A hate that has today no more reason to be. They should be back to be friend as Sal being friend of Joyce is what remained from all those year.
Then again, maybe they are friend, now. I never subscribed to see the paying strip.
Sal also once tried to blow up the Western Hemisphere with the Power Booster Rod, and Joyce was the one Sal punched in the face a bunch on her way to do that. The Danny thing’s just a footnote, really.
Danny was the key to stop Sal, tough. And they both tried to destroy the world. Shouldn’t they consider this make them even?
They both saw the worst and the best of each other. Isn’t that the kind of stuff that make friends? Has Joyce really forget what Sal did for her?
Also, Sal punches everyone. Joyce shouldn’t take it personally.
Hey, Willis. I’ve moved addresses since I placed an order for the SP! Book 1 preorder – where should I send the updated address to for you?

” You can get either the first half, the second half, or the complete(ish) series. Maybe the influx of interest might jostle me into finishing it up. Subscription numbers ”
Thing is….a “complete(ish)” thing isn’t the most attractive thing to buy.
I love your work, but the “ish” is rather off-putting, so you got a bit of a catch-22 situation there :-/
Maybe if you had some fund raising figure? Like a “give me this much money and I’ll finish it all nicely fund” (although with a catcher title). Then people can donate towards it. Possibly with it being completely open to everyone to read if the figure is reached?
As for the free model, thats always the preference, although I still think micropayments could work if someone (who isn’t paypal) actually gets their arse in gear and makes a decent system.
how long is this going to be available for? because while i’d feel really guilty using the money i don’t have on this right now, i think i’d be totally up for it in a couple of months…
please say i can do this in a couple of months?
I expect these to be in the store indefinitely. The only thing that’d knock them out of the store would be J&W! book collection preorders, which are not in any way immediate.
