That's how Z.O.I.D.S/Robostrux were sold.

Hotwheels has some customizable "kit cars" such as the 'Tumbler Batmobile' that can be rebuilt with various parts into other stuff like a tank with treads.

Frankly it sounds very doable. A body and some heads and accessories and stickers and a couple of differing pop off panels and boom. One robot that can make any of three variations that can turn into a vehicle with three variations.

An auction for a complete Minerva on ebay a couple of days ended at little over $1,000. There's no stopping someone to sell a fully assembled and painted Minerva.

I've been in three classes (2006, 2007 and 2009 - what I consider the sucky years because of who came out in 2008 (SG Nightbeat), 2010 (G2 Black Sideswipe) and 2011). I have seen at least one person pick up their bag and leave. Brian use to administer a boy's scout oath that these things would never be sold on eBay and FunPub use to police eBay to prevent the sale of such toys, at least until they themselves made extra kits available for auction as part of their regular casino.

That said, you really do want to put everything together with Shawn (facilitator) present. It's a lot of work to put the toy together.

As others have noted; cuticle cutters (or even wire cutters) work far better than scissors. And yes, sanding off mold-flash is inevitable.

And I second the wish for wide-release kit-style TFs. Clearly there are enough kitbashers out there who have to disassemble and repaint their toys anyway.

So, building a Gundam. I do this for fun quite a bit! Haven't had to place rivets, though.

Build Real Grade RX-78-2 Gundam and be a real man, (or woman, depending on your gender preference). 1/144 scale, with more complexity and parts than a Master Grade.
