I’ll definitely BE at BotCon. There’s no question about that. But other than one year a decade ago, I’ve never had a dealer table there. That one year I went home making more money than I’d spent, but it was a very miserable, cold experience, because I didn’t get to see anybody or sit in on many panels ‘cuz of the whole have-to-be-at-the-table thing.
But now that BotCon has this artist alley thing they’re trying to cultivate, I’m tempted to try it out again. Mind, I would absolutely not be at that table all day, every day, like I am at every other convention. I’d have to close up shop, throw a bedsheet over everything, and buzz my way into panels I’d want to see. I’m comfortable with this. I’m selling paper goods, not MISB Overloads. But would you guys who are going to BotCon and also interested in patronizing my wares, would me not actually being there 50% of the time be worth it to you?
Basically, what I’m asking is if whether I can at least sell, say, 12 books to cover the table and shipping costs. Or 19 Dinobot posters.

POSTER!
I haven’t confirmed I’m stopping by botcon yet (though I feel silly not going, being 20 some odd minutes away), but I’m sure I’ll end up being there for a day. I’d definitely stop by to say hello and pick up a book. Seeing as I prolly wouldn’t have this new found fascination with Transformers without having read Shortpacked, I owe you as much.
Maybe if you could spell Honour properly…
It’s spelled that way to discourage international orders!
Don’t you have at least a handful of fans/friends/underlings who’ll be there you could bribe with a book or two to watch your table while you’re off making Aaron Archer nervous?
Next poster should be BW Megatron with YEESSS.
I’ve got a couple friends that do Artists Alleys, and they make a point of having available minions who can sit the table for them so they can have a little bit of fun at the con proper.
Better than a bedsheet!
if you get me in, i’ll man the table when you’re out. i won’t do sketches though, unless someone really wants to pay for crap.
Depends on which half the time I’d catch the table at. XD
The people most likely to buy stuff from you are all going to be at the same panels you’d be ditching the booth for, so the 50% there thing probably isn’t an issue for potential customers. The real issue is only whether you’d get enough sponduliks to make you prefer to spend that 50% of your Botcon time sitting at a table instead of wandering around with your friends.
One thing a lot of artists do is make a schedule for when they’ll be away from their table. That way people know when they can come back if they’re not there. That and “I’ll be back at” signs.
If you’re there with SP books 1 and 2 I can guarantee I’ll buy one each of those.
SP book 1 is still sadly completely all sold out. I’ll have 2 and 3, though.
whatever happened to that preorder? I assume no reprints will be made
Also I may buy things as my fancy is struck. If you actually have a table I’ll have you sign my unsigned book though.
Guess I’m at least good for book 2 then.
