So we’ve waxed about NYCC Bumblebee and Arcee, but the figurines of Jack Darby and Raf Esquivel who come with them are enticing to me as well. I like toys of humans, okay? I will forever desire toys of Robot-Master, Bomber Bill, and the Mechanic. I’ve bought lots of live-action-style Transformers (again) because they were repackaged with human characters! I imported Kicker. And I am actually a little angry we never got toys of Sari Sumdac or the Angry Archer.
I like the characters in Transformers stories. And many of those characters are humans. It makes sense to me.
Like Arcee and Bumblebee, Jack and Raf here are going to be released later to retail, though of course not in this NY-specific deco. Jack has a New York t-shirt, which is cool, but Raf seems to have a white New York … sweater vest. That sounds especially not real. I would love to be proved wrong, though. And then lose however many dollars it takes to get one. I will totally cosplay at BotCon next year as New York sweater vest Raf.

The second New York-themed cardboard display I've amassed this year! The first came with marshmallows.
These figurines aren’t to scale with anything. Which is just as well, because they’re not going to succeed at it. Arcee and Bumblebee aren’t in scale with each other, so any attempt to make Jack or Raf in scale with either of them is going to cause failure somewhere else. So I’m glad they’re small-but-not-too-small, and also that they exist.
Really, though, what I want is Miko. She’s awesome.
The toys come in a pretty nice packaging display that you can remove the plastic bubble from without too much trouble. That leaves you with a city street with a guardrail in front of a row of beveled skyscrapers. It’s pretty great, and I put a T-Rex in it.

I bet you know people who could knit you that sweater vest. There are already charts for the Autobot symbol, so all that’s left is the lettering and a fuckton of white yarn.
Anyone argues that it doesn’t look quite like the figure, tell them about pixel density.
Random thoughts:
1. Nice review. I’m still unsure if I want this set or if I will wait for mass retail.
2. I want a NY autobot sweater vest.
3. I REALLY want an I Autobot(heart) NY shirt.
4. There was a time when I didn’t really like Miko, but the fandom over-reaction to her has turned me to be in her corner.
I wanted this set because it DIDN’T have Miko. Miko encapsulates TF Prime completely: she’s like Sari, but not enough to be fun, and most of the traits that make her unique just get in the way of what I was hoping would happen.
If the writers were aware of this, though, and had Miko yell “Dadadada-dada, PUPPY POWER!” at some point, I would forgive everything.
I don’t care about those characters at all, but those figures look pretty nice. Maybe I should order that set just for the hell of it?
David, you’re toy reviews are nice. In a time when there are so many toy reviews on video, your reviews a pleasant sight. Good pictures and an article talking about the toys are all I need.
Those shirts would make more sense if they said “I (autobot symbol) NY”
Also, I am glad you like Miko. The fandom seems to be so against her and I assume it’s for the same petty reasons they don’t like Wheelie (i.e., they can’t handle anything that’s not dark and serious). That episode where she was trying to prevent the cave-in with Bulkhead and she was crying, that was like the first time I’d seen actual emotion in a TF show since ‘Code of Hero’
I note that you carefully did not give your opinion of Jack and Raf as characters.
It wasn’t something I calculated. I enjoy them less, but they do not offend me.
Ironically, that’s how I feel about Miko. I don’t like her as much as I do Raf or Jack, but she doesn’t bug me either. Indeed, thanks to episodes like the aforementioned Rock Bottom and TMI giving her some depth, she’s actually grown on me a bit.
I love the inclusion of some of the human Transformers Prime characters in the line. Really, I do. But I wish they were actual articulated action figures like the Human Alliance human figures — and in that scale as well — and not just mini-statues.
Other then that, cool.
actually i believe there is a japanese released sari figure?
Nope. Maybe you’ve seen a third party creation.
330622887034 ebay item number
probably a fan related product then?
Yes, a third-party product. Protip: If something doesn’t have the Transformers logo on the packaging…
What kind of amazing T-Rex is that?!?
Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Megatron.
Man you make me want pink Arcee and that sweet diorama box… but I’m not spending money for afreakin’ movie bumblebee! No f-way!
But it’s not movie Bumblebee! Oh hell, it pretty much is, although at least TF: Prime Bumblebee doesn’t look like he’s wearing a metal ball-gag in his mouth.
I guess the character is pretty much stuck looking like this. He has to be yellow with black stripes and he has to have those door wings on his back. The name is really tied to the this character’s appearance. G1 Bumblebee was yellow and he was a VW Beetle, commonly known as “The Bug”. G1 and Movie and the only ways that the character can look and still have the make sense.
What about Animated Bumblebee?
Well, minus the wings, that one still has the yellow with black stripe color scheme.
I don’t mind the color scheme, I just don’t like the whole gangly-limbed-broken-up-chest-with-wings design of Movie Bumblebee and everything similar to him. Heck I don’t like the movie designs, the only Movie toys I enjoy seem to be of characters who never show up in the actual movies (ROTF Scouts, DOTM HA basics).
Wait wait wait wait.
You like Miko?
SOMEONE ACTUALLY LIKES MIKO?
WHAT SORT OF BIZARRE ALTERNATE REALITY HAVE I WANDERED INTO?
Also, the 10th Anniversary BW Megatron character seems oddly fitting in that cardboard display. I don’t know why.
