So I think to myself, “Damn, Robin’s leaving the United States House of Representatives, so maybe I should draw the actual House Chamber in a strip or something, instead of cheating myself into a bunch of close-up shots that may or may not actually look like they’re from within the House Chamber. How hard can it really be?”
I regretted that almost immediately.

–where it rubs off on her forehead.
…but it’s covered by her hair. So unless Assange pushes it aside, she’s good to go.
Not that Robin, who isn’t exactly known for discretion or modesty, would manage to keep her mouth shut for long about anything Wikileaks would be interested in.
Irrefutable proof that Congress is evil: they hate the sombrero! ;p
Some of them do want to put a wall between us and Mexico. That kinda pisses me off.
And I really don’t want that to happen, because Canadians can’t make a god damn burrito to save thier lives.
Sorry Canada. Truth hurts.
No one makes back bacon like us, though.
Good point.
Yeah, not sure if you’re aware but bacon in the USA is absolute garbage. It’s devoid of any and all flavour. It’s all about England’s bacon.
I have some good bacon in my (American) fridge right now! It totally exists here! But I can totally see where you’d get that impression.
It seems to me that bacon in the UK is usually unsmoked? Not that that’s bad, but smoked and unsmoked bacon are totally different.
If you like European style bacon then shouldn’t you be championing Danish bacon.
No offence but I’m going to tell you the same thing I told the Phoenix Suns. You don’t have drug runners camping out in your backyard shooting your neighbors, so don’t diss the wall…
Yes, I knew several people who have been shot (and some killed) by drug runners, including the one that caused the state I’m currently living in to go up in arms.
On the other hand I went to high school with a bunch of guys who are now in jail for running drugs… Isn’t life great? >.>
I am assuming this is your rationalization of the anti-Latino sentiment in your state? You post was poorly worded, so I can’t tell for sure.
Also, I’m from Florida, so don’t act like I live in some drug free utopia.
It’s a colossally foolish notion to mistake being anti-illegal-alien with being anti-Latino It’s also racist. (Because it makes the assumption that all illegal immigrants are Latino.)
Indeed, there is a difference between anti-latino and anti-illegal immigrants. I live in Tucson and in many parts, Latin Americans are the majority. I personally run into very little racisim here and most of what I do see is from minorities and individual hicks. The fact of the matter is, everyone I talk to is fine with people coming here from Mexico and other Latin American countries as long as it’s done legally. What we don’t appreciate is human trafficking, drug running and the border violence that is taking lives in both countries. While there are bigots all over this country, the way that the media and people have warped the desire for a secured border into some sort of racist agenda. It’s not a black and white issue, and really, why can’t we secure the border and also make it easier to get here legally? It’s not just “build a wall or let them free.” But unfortunately fear mongering and inserting of emotions have clouded the whole issue in the eyes of many Americans.
Yep, exactly how pretty much most Arizonans I know feel about the situation. Love to have you here, please come legally. If you’re a human trafficker/drug runner please do not.
This always gets turned into “you hate people with slightly darker skin than you” – hey, why let the truth get in the way of the narrative, right?
It’s too bad the legislation that isn’t anti-Latino is scaring Latinos out of the state.
No, I’m not anti-mexican or anything, I’m just tired of them killing my neighbors and forcing my friends to make them sandwiches at gun point…
Oh yea and let’s not forget the Islamic newspaper my friend in Border Patrol found in a wash about 20 miles from my house either…
An Islamic newspaper? Oh noes, does this mean Muslims are reading in our country? What shall we do?
dun-dun-DUNNNNN
Yeah that totally wasn’t a completely xenophobic post.
I kinda thought DS was being a douche, but now I feel sorry for him. He was trying so hard to make a distinction between anti-illegal and anti-latino sentiments, and then you go and open your mouth.
Yeah, I gotta say, citing the existence of an Islamic newspaper as though it’s a sign of danger and evil is pretty despicable.
I am sorry about your friends gun troubles though.
No it wasn’t the newspaper, it was where it was placed, see I can walk south for less than a half an hour from my house and get to Mexico. Why is there a Muslim reading in the middle of the woods less than a half an hour WALK from Mexico? And why did he feel a need to hide the thing in between two rocks inside a wash? If he was a legmite passerthrough wouldn’t he have just taken it with him? Or just dropped it and walked away? Why was it so carefully hidden? Was he scared that we might find it on him and drag him off to Gitmo? Do we even still drag people off to Gitmo?
Ah okay, the problem isn’t that it was an Islamic newspaper, it’s that it was between a couple of rocks in a forest near the border. See, now it makes perfect se…wait, what?
Wow, NoOne, more comments like these and I’m reconsidering your privilege to post here. Political commentary is one thing, but I don’t feel like my pages being saturated with paranoid racist crap.
Ok I feel the need to point out something I think I’ve neglected to mention… I also live next to the major military intelligence center where most of our intelligence officers are trained, the college I attend teaches military personal how to fly UAVs and many of our communications are routed through afore mentioned military base. So yea, maybe I just don’t want to be blown up nor have my friends who work on base blown up. But let us be honest here who really wants to be blown up?
Also, I still want to know a legitimate reason for hiding an Islamic newspaper inside a wash (which around here are 7-8 feet deep) in-between two rocks. If you can come up with one I’ll agree I’m just being racist and paranoid.
Oh and the wall isn’t about drug runners it’s about keeping out people who are entering illegally.
Whoops sorry Mr. Willis didn’t see you there hating my line of thought, I’ll shut up now…
“It’s too bad the legislation that isn’t anti-Latino is scaring Latinos out of the state.”
Is it that? Or is it the truly MASSIVE wave of ill-concieved and frequently dishonest agitprop generated by the opposition to the legislation?
Someone should plainly explain to them that they’ll only be pulled over if they look Mexican.
Good example of what I was talking about, right there.
That statement wasn’t a racial statement. It was an anti-criminal statement. Besides, when you put up a wall, you make a gate to control the flow in. Putting up a wall doesn’t say “We don’t want you here.” It says “We want to know when you come in here.” The Mexican president has a similar “we want to know when you come here” program to deal with the illegals in his country, but he gets all up in arms when we want something not anywhere near as harsh as his setup.
Wigga, please. California is the only border/drug ingress state where you can’t just casually cap a bitch and figure out a legally-sound flimsy excuse while you wait for the uniforms to roll in. Arm up and shoot anyone who threatens you, and quit tryin’ to justify the Klan-level blatant racism of AZ’s state and local gummints.
Klan racism? That’s a gross exaggeration, and generally one propagated by people who don’t care about illegal immigration anyway. Illegal immigration is a huge problem in southern states, and Arizonas law effectively helps to police it. They can’t pull over anyone without a reason, and when they do the standard ‘License and registration’ bit comes up… Your license shows your not a citizen? You’re already required to carry documentation by federal law, so this allows Arizona officer to check.
This applies if your Mexican, Chinese, Irish immigrant, any and every color if your license shows your not a citizen. The only reason this is seen as ‘unfair’ against latinos, is the large number of hispanic illegal immigrants in Arizona, who would be affected by this.
I wouldn’t think this way, if it wasn’t for the ‘outrage’ i’ve heard from people when restaurants or factories are raided and illegal immigrants are arrested. These ‘they’re racist’ people don’t even bat an eye that these people are here illegally, they don’t care. So i’m sorry, but the racist excuse is a cheap and pathetic ploy in an attempt to prevent ANY form of enforcement of legal immigration.
As someone from New England, I’d just like to direct you to this old article from Brattleboro VT. http://www.reformer.com/ci_7526534?IADID=Search-www.reformer.com-www.reformer.com
That’s right, there are drug runners in frikken VERMONT coming down from CANADA…
Still want to claim that wall is only about drug smuggling?
i live in kentucky and know someone who was shot over a drug deal last week, i have personally witnessed a man shot 5 times in the face. blaming your communities problems on “illegals” is retarded.
as for “it’s fine if they come over legally”, my next door neighbor just got the rest of his family over here legally… after 9 friggen years. crime and immigration are incredibly unrelated, the immigration system is designed to keep out the “dirty wetbacks” as best it can.
I’m sure you do, just like there was that ranch that was taken over by Mexican drug gangs and practiced Sharia law.
So Robin is the most original looking member and not generic looking. Makes sense.
Aaron Schock sortof looks like David Boreanaz.
Yeah not original, but that’s gotta count for something.
…Come to think on it, it makes you wonder why they’d write e-mails to anybody about that sort of thing. You’re just asking to hand blackmail over to somebody. Oh well! And yeah. That level of detail, on that many rows of seats, pain. In. The. Ass.
They do it because they assume it’s private.
Which it it, until the IT guy gets pissed off.
Conspiracy Theory: Assange is the fall guy for the REAL people behind all this… THE IT GUYS (bum bum bummmm).
What I think is funny about the whole thing is Wikileaks was kind of a crapshoot.
It was wholly dependent on whistle blowers volunteering information (as I understand it).
I’m willing to bet Assange didn’t really know how far it would go when he set the whole thing up, and now he’s probably gonna pay for it, big time.
I don’t think so- I think its that the cables revealed some particular Vindictive Bitches in Power to BE VBiP- think about how he & WikiLeaks wasn’t gone after with nearly as much fervor after the Afghan War Diaries came out- but this time, total ape(&bull)shit insanity…
Shit, if the US devoted this much effort to getting Osama………
Nah, this last leak (the list of high-value sites) has zero “whistleblower” value. It’s WL trying to blackmail the world into giving Julian Lasagna his very own “get out of jail free” card.
Evil representatives are evil.
You just used evil three times in a sentance!
Counting hard.
No, spelling hard. Counting correct for comedic effect.
Yes, well I’m a geology major for a reason… Also this was after finishing about 4 final papers for my classes…
Dicks.
I think you’re thinking about the current Dumbing of Ages comic: http://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/comic/book-1/03-men-are-from-beck-women-are-from-clark/snipped-2/
I’d love to see Robin discussing leaving the house on the Daily Show.
No, Colbert!
What dicks. Are we going to get some Robin DeSanto hat rage?
Yes! She should stand up, point her finger indignantly at Reps. Douche and Bag and shout a la Finn the Human:
“MY HAT IS AWESOME!”
See, what I would ahve told them is that the whole point of the hat was to make them hate me.
But then again I am evil…
Note to self: Don’t type with cold fingers >.>
2 words: poor Robin
T.T
i just thought of this: she should “introduce” them to mike. mwahahaha.
Satisfying though it may be, utterly collapsing the political infrastructure of the United States is probably not the answer.
a little anarchy is good for the soul and (probably) keeps the blood pumping..for a while..
Keeps it pumping out onto the floor, maybe…
I’ve never understood people who can justify anarchy to themselves. To actually function, it relies on an even more ludicrously rose-tinted view of humanity than Communism.
@Pagannerd i’m not really an anarchist, i was being ironic about the blood pumping (and i did see you catch that)
Jeeze… just going for insult to injury on this one, aren’t ya Willis?
I have now heard about Wikileaks in three separate instances in the span of six hours. In addition, I first heard about it today.
Makes you think something’s going on with that, huh?
It’s actually pretty interesting. I recommend following it.
>In addition, I first heard about it today.
How is that even possible?
Be nice, he only just got out of the coma last night.
In that case, we should probably also inform him of the zombie apocalypse.
Eh, he’ll find out soon enough.
I don’t follow current events via a news[paper/show/site], I get it from my webcomics!
webcomics + daily show for me.
(and previously also “Autotune the news”).
They* once tested the dailyshow for the accuracy of its information and found it just as accurate as actual news shows, only with *less* hyperbolic language.
Now if only we could prove the same thing for webcomics
Excellent perspective on that maddening seat arrangement.
The funniest part is how every other congress critter in the room is the exact same White guy with minor variations in hair and suit color.
It’s something I’ve done with my Congress stuff since the very first storyline — all of the House is the same white dude copy-pasted, save Robin of course, while anyone in the Senate is an actual person.
And Representative Skittlesguy?
Yeah, what happened with him? Wasn’t he supposed to be some sort of major plot point for Robin, or did you drop it in favor of Leslie, or was he simply a red herring?
You know, I kind of thought that he was suddenly introducing the House Chamber again specifically to start including Skittlesguy. Am I the only one who sees even bothering to include the House again after losing the election as an excuse for her to meet Skittlesguy just barely in time before she leaves and is unlikely to ever see him again? I can’t be the only person who sees this strip as setup for this.
But how often does Willis go for the obvious setup Slipgate?
Awwwww. Poor Robin.
Well, I like the Sombrero. It makes me smile.
Is Robin ever going to meet male-Robin the congressman? I don’t think the poor guy even has a name, and even though Robin’s a lesbian now, I think she might take comfort from an ally-in-crazy.
Robin is technically bisexual, not a fully a lesbian. A lesbian would mean she’s only attracted to woman. However, she still demonstrates an attraction to men (wanting to watch Ethan and Drew make out, and wanting Ethan to tell her what making out and sex with a guy is like), as well as Leslie and Amber.
thats called yaoi Shift.
all girls like it.
I thought Yaoi Shift would be what happens if Downshift and Makeshift made out.
Leslie didn’t like it. And she’s an full-fledged lezzy.
Jake Manley’s his name.
where is the Skittles smelling Guy? Did he lose the election or is he staying?
can barely wait to see these reps reactions to yus and her agenda. will mike be stealing ballots again? will the reps kick yus out and re-instate robin?
Backgrounds are so irritating.. if you do them right, nobody even notices them @_@ but.. so much work.. and unless you’re Toriyama or someone, nobody’s gonna recognize your backgrounds at a glance..
Not necessarily. Some of the backgrounds in DoA were noticeably very good.
i’m baffled that you picked toriyama for your example, an artist almost as identifiable by his tendency to make every backdrop look the same as by his preference for large, grunting men.
Write my incriminating evidence in my hat. check
She should get Bill Clinton to get people to like her sombrero.
Did the sombrero shrink?
