I’ll say this, though, he’s honest to a fault.
Any time he isn’t drunk still qualifies as “sometimes”.
This time doesn’t count, since I think he’s sober and just messing with Amber because he’s Mike.
Oh, he’s drunk. If you’ve followed Mike since the late Roomies!/early It’s Walky days, you know a single drink puts a smile on his face and changes his personality. It was more a background thing, but it was there. David thinks and plans shit DEEP. (although the first time Mike offered a hug to Joyce and she freaked out always makes me laugh.)
I have. I’m just not sure if he actually drank anything this time. Maybe he is sobering up or something, but he seems meaner now than he has when drunk before. And if Mike is going to have to be nice anyways, he might think it better to be mean while doing it than to be drunk.
And thanks for referencing that strip, now I’m gonna spend 3 hours archive-binging.
He’s probably bitter because she asked him to be drunk so her mom would like him.
No, he’s still drunk and nice, but he’s tripping over some of the facts from his “other life.” Notice he caught the earlier gaffe and found a socially-pleasing lie to cover it up with.
I can’t wait until Mike sobers up.
Of course Mike already knew. Mike knows all.
Y’know, before the giant honeybun thing Jossed it, I was totally convinced that Mike’s superpower was telepathy, which he could only block by getting drunk. It seemed to explain everything perfectly: always knowing what everyone was up to, constant irritation at everyone (how would you like having to hear every stupid thing every stupid person said all the time? I’d be like moderating a really bad internet forum, but without the ability to banhammer people!) being nicer when drunk, and his asshole-ry sometimes actually helping people realize their faults/mistakes/etc with surprising accuracy.
But super-strength is cool too.
Who says he isn’t? Maybe he’s /so/ telepathic that his power breaks the fourth wall; he knew you suspected, and so he deliberately misled you. Because he’s just like that, sometimes.
That would honestly be awesome.
And completely in character for Mike. Which is a rather worrying thought.
Don’t all the SEMME kids have superstrength?
Yeah, but Mike’s up there with the strongest of them.
I wonder, if anyone actually was telepathic, if it could be overwhelmed by the nearest crazy person. Living in the city might be like listening to every radio station plus static at once. Would this actually be a super power or a super liability?
Oh man, I can’t wait for the trainwreck of a break-up those two are going to have. It’s going to be breathtaking.
Just for that they are going to grow old together.

Is it odd that I find Mike MORE scary when he’s happy and drunk, than when he’s angry and sober?
And you gotta love the fact Mike already suspected Faz and Amber being related. I wouldn’t be surprised if he secretly did DNA tests, and had the results put in a beautiful frame, and wrapped in a lovely manner for her like he did with the pictures of her ex and his roommate/girlfriend.
I do often wonder why nice Mike seems to regard his sober activities in a jovial way. Probably just because he isn’t 100% drunk or something.
He’s just a happy drunk, he doesn’t have a split personality. You ever meet guys who get really sad when they’re drunk? Mike’s the opposite.
Also, I’m pretty sure 100% drunk would be completely dead.
Being dead didn’t seem to bother Mike before…
Even while drunk and nice, this is just too awful and exploitable for Mike not to grasp at it.
I think Mike’s sobering up…
A Mike who is in the slightest bit sober would not offer “Hugs” to anything.
I concur – you can see his eyebrows. Perhaps I’m wrong, but Sober!Mike has no eyebrows to my recollection.
Well, there was the strip when Amber first blackmails him…you can see his eyebrows in one of the panels. But you’re right, most of the time, you can’t see drunk mike’s eyebrows…this does seem fishy. And most likely a red herring, just to screw with us.
He said it’s Sober Mike’s eyebrows you can’t see, not Drunk’s. Some of you guys read way too into things.
Sober Mike always has eyebrows. It’s what makes him look angry.

This might be one of the best strips yet.
Mike makes me think of Sam Vimes in the Discworld novels, in that I wonder if he is naturally Knurd like Vimes.
Whooa that makes a lot of scence actually. finding out that Faz in your brother would drive anyone crazy expecially when she did sleep with him for money.
And yes Mike still rules even when he drunk. just think in about 20 years everyone’s going to have a good laugh about it

Sure. But she slept with the guy that woke up with Faz, so it’s just as bad. (Not sure if “slept” was the right term… and in no uncertain terms do I want to know.)
Also, is the caffeine sobering Mike up? Drunk Mike used to be a lot nicer.
I think it has to do with how drunk he is, Dina kept him pretty sloshed from what I recall

This is why I like Mike. He’s brutally honest. So is my husband. He also has a weird sense of humor. I appreciate the concern, but there’s no need for any. Mike and Amber are actually my favorite characters on here.
Well now, I must say the way you put it does make it seem not only tolerable, but admirable and fun to boot. Dammit, you’re starting to make me like Mike… didn’t think it possible, must mull it over in my head…
You know what? She was the one who wanted to date Mike, to the point of semi-blackmailing him to do so. Amber knew what an asshole she was getting and she wanted him anyway. She deserves whatever she gets.

It’s interesting, I don’t think I’d ever be able to draw a character with and without sclerae for different expressions.. to me they’re so different, I can’t think of Superman with sclerae anymore XD

I like to think of sober Mike and drunk Mike as two different people forced to share the same body, you know like multiple personalities or something.
