I guess I could try to be the-only-person-who-is-politely-offended-without-being-a-douchebag?
Whatever your political leanings, you should believe in respecting, not demonizing your fellow human beings. I’m an independent, so I get uncomfortable when I hear racist slurs against Obama (which unfortunately, do exist) or see him depicted as a monkey or a terrorist (it’s like, seriously, people?). I’m similarly uncomfortable when sexual harrassment against a real person is described as funny. If I didn’t know Willis better–I know he’s no sexist–I’d wonder if he’d write the same way if Palin were man. If he’d think to be so grossly rape-esque. I’ve seen far too much “Sarah-Palin-hate” with strongly sexist overtones, and I don’t think it’s very enlightened of an artist or a writer to go after someone’s sex or sexuality, or attack them in sexually-depicted ways.
Thankfully, I know Willis isn’t sexist, and he’s not mimicking the thousands of writers who’ll attack a female politician one way and a male politician another way.
I have noticed, however, both from his comments under his other comics and in his art styles in these particular comics, that there’s a fair amount of hate and disrespect floating around his art. We all have a little Mike in us, but there’s a point at which for effective political discourse–and to keep us from becoming the extremists we all hate–we need to reign him in and say, “this isn’t funny. This is wrong. I need to respect those I disagree with.”
While I calm down from laughing my rear-end off about that “envy of Fox News” line, can I just ask why this was such a large strip? Not complaining, but wouldn’t it have been just as easy split into, what, 3 or 4 strips? I guess I’m just wondering why you thought to combine all this awesomeness into one uber-long strip.
It could be very possible that @shitpacked liked this comic before seeing someone he voted for disrespected.People here say rude things about Amber, Fox News people, Willis, anime they hate, etc etc, and no one ever says “return to your Mother’s basement.” What’s the diff? Is only one kind of hate acceptable in these comment boxes? Only hate you agree with?
Wow… this jumpedthe shark so high you need to look down with a telescope to see the fins…. in a good way, of course. You have me as a reader forever now!
Um, no, jumping the shark is the point when something passes the point of no return in terms of ridiculosity and it can never recover. It is often a last attempt to salvage a dying franchise with new! exciting! things! but it just ends up absurd.
Ah, as in when Jonathan Frakes grew a beard and saved STNG from absolute mediocracy.
But we still had a surrender monkee in command of a starship that if you sneezed at it too hard, it would try to blow itself up.
At least with Kirk, he’d ignore the “prime directive” when it got in the way of doing the right thing, amd the STOS starship go knocked around frequently and often, yet rarely if even was in dange of blowing up from the loss of antimatter containment, or the warp core coolant leaking or numrerous other STNG issues.
Personally, I think that they “jumped the shark” after the fourth time ‘Q’ showed up. Too much Deus Ex Machiana.
Robin is female and a lesbian, so she has the minority candidate thing covered…
Robin had no relevant experience regarding the office to which she was elected…
Robin doesn’t care about her constituents’ needs unless it keeps her in power…
Robin is unbearably smug and self-centered most of the time…
Robin often spouts nonsense and is often adored for it…
Wow, if people weren’t already wising up to this schtick, she’d be a shoo-in for the democratic ticket come 2016!
That said, this comic appears to have the most visual effort put into it since the beginning. The Mondale gag made me laugh as well. Good show, Willis.
Man, I really thought you were going to end with “So she *IS* stealing Palin’s shtick.”
(Though, so far as I know, Palin is not bisexual. Perhaps that’s the key difference?)
Anyway, I think you’ll find that, in most contexts, and in this century, only someone *really* conservative, would think of “female” as a “minority”.
Do you seriously not understand why there is a feminist movement despite females comprising a majority of the world’s population? Because I could be amazingly condescending, but I don’t want to waste my time in case you are just trying to get a rise out of people by saying retarded shit.
“Y’know, it’s scary how much Obama and Palin have in common when you get right down to it.”
In a weird way they are.
Palin is pro gun rights.
Obama expanded gun rights by allowing people to take firearms into national parks.
Palin and her Tea Bagger ilk want lower taxes.
Obama lowered taxes.
The real distinction between the two is Sarah Palin is a dollar chasing lying hypocrite.
The big difference between Obama and Palin is the staggering dishonesty Palin displays at her little Tea Party gatherings. She tries to paint Obama as the big scary socialist who gonna take away Real America’s guns and religion, but if you look at what his actual record, Obama is very much a political centrist.
Sadly, the average teabagger eats this garbage up with a spoon. Facts and reason don’t factor in to their persistent outrage. Sarah Palin will continue to earn massive checks by blatantly distorting the facts. Remember her little death panel lie?
Sadly people aren’t wising up to Palin’s shtick, so she’s a shoe in for the Republican nomination in 2012.
So I’m taking it that she’s less than a 3 (Equally heterosexual and homosexual; bisexual), but more than 0( Exclusively heterosexual)?
That puts her at 1(Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual ) or 2(Predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual) on the Kinsey scale.
“Robin is female and a lesbian, so she has the minority candidate thing covered…
Robin had no relevant experience regarding the office to which she was elected…
Robin doesn’t care about her constituents’ needs unless it keeps her in power…
Robin is unbearably smug and self-centered most of the time…
Robin often spouts nonsense and is often adored for it…
Wow, if people weren’t already wising up to this schtick, she’d be a shoo-in for the democratic ticket come 2016!”
Wow, that first sentence aside, I thought you were building up to a Palin joke.
That was… one of the most epic fights as well as strips lately… I would bow to you DW if it wasn’t because I was afraid Robin would put a Faz on me XD
… ye Gods I love that woman!
… and I challenge you to try and hold back laughing out loud becase your boss is engaged in a discussion just in front of your desk… Thank Cheese for sudden fits of covering cough
The only downside to this story is, if it plays out the way I think it will (like the story that inspired it), I may have to quit reading Shortpacked. Hopefully you’ve got a nice twist ready for the end. I know what I’d hope for . . .
Wow!!! A bottom folding five page spread and a battle worthy of the spread! If you can get your printers to pull that off in for Shortpacked volume 4, I think that will be a first for the comic book industry. At least I haven’t seen it done yet. What I can’t wait to see is the what your going to do for the back of those pages. Awesome!
Action sequences really really really work a lot better in longer strings like this. It COULD’VE been chopped out into five pages, but this is better for getting the blood pumping.
I have no idea what the sequence is referencing, but I’m enjoying the quasi-melodrama on its own merits.
So how’d these non-superpowered people give Robin so much trouble? Well, the forumites briefly surprised her with their hivemind-like coordination. And I’m gonna go with the theory that Sarah Palin has superpowers of her own, because that’s the best explanation I can think of for her entire political career.
How much funnier would it have been if Robin’s hand actually said “shove Faz’ head up her ass” and we only see it in the end panel. Well, probably only enough to turn this from ROTFL to ROTFLOL.
This strip is total win.
To top it tomorrows must be twice as long and involve more nerf weapons.
Wow. I can honestly say that I never expected to see THAT.
Not that it isn’t hilarious, but it’s a pretty big change for the Walkyverse. We’ve seen lots of cartoony antics before, but they’ve always been more Justice League-impossible than Roger Rabbit-impossible.
Haven’t you seen the movie Hancock? They did the same bit and it wasn’t “cartoony”.
In fact, this would be very possible if Palin is an invertibrate. Without bones to bang into, it would just be a matter of stretching. Plus if Faz’ hair is as greasy as I suspect it is… well, you know the rest.
The head up ass thing in Hancock always bothered me, partly because it does break realism for me. Yes, I know, in a superhero movie. It felt very Roger Rabbit… and it may be a small distinction but when I see someone get punched in a superhero movie, it’s easier for me to believe they can take a hit whereas I see that scene and just think “his pelvis has been broken and his lower digestive system immediately ruptured. Hancock has just both killed and sexually assaulted this man.” I like the rest of the movie, and just try to retcon that one scene in my head.
Go Robin! Awesome strip today, really enjoyed it. Thank you, Willis. I think you need more of Robin fighting people while just wearing panties, like she used to wear in some older strips – or did I dream that?
over the course of two days, i have read EVERY comic on this site, and have been inspired. Inspired to forget about furthering my career and education and to instead focus on what is truly important in life: batman jokes and transformers trivia
and was totally worth the effort
I guess I could try to be the-only-person-who-is-politely-offended-without-being-a-douchebag?
Whatever your political leanings, you should believe in respecting, not demonizing your fellow human beings. Here’s to respect, in art and in life.
Yes.
Should I feel sorry for, or jealous of, Faz? I’m unsure…
Badass comic though.
I still miss Ronnie…
… There are no words. That just kicked arse.
I don’t think kicked is the right verb here.
Good lord, and that was only a Wednesday strip!
why didn’t robin use her super speed
She clearly does, so I dunno what to tell ya!
I see it now I’m stupid
Epic.
Clearly, Willis loves us.
Pacing. I will explain later!
Sadly, I do not. Likely some sort of american movie i’ve never seen or even heard of. Or some Batman comic.
I’m assuming it’s cos he wants to finish the storyline on the same day the actual voting ends.
That is a small part of it. The storyline ends on Monday, actually, but that’s mostly an epilogue.
The action wouldn’t be nearly so actiony if it were spread across a week. (With a weekend break just before the end.)
It was a very big bonus getting this much material at once. Well done!
It’s like Christmas really.
I get twice the Shortpacked at the same awesome price. Free.
Oh god a human centipede!
You read my mind.
No! Don’t make me think of that South Park episode! It literally gave me nightmares. Well one, anyways.
Holy crap!!! I haven’t laughed out loud at a webcomic like this in a LONG time. Awesome job!
Poor Mondale. Will he never get to give Reagan back his promise ring?
How did Sidney Yus manage to get Mondale and Palin on the same Axis of Something?
Oh, like Sarah Palin knows who Walter Mondale is.
Well played, Willis. :slow clap:
That was very graphic.
Oh god. Faz finally gets into a woman’s skirt… the horror!
I just discovered this web comic three days ago and I want to say Thank you. Just for this page so worth it
… is Faz foreign?
“Faz is of Korean descent.”
Faz was born in the United States. He just likes to say his own name.
> Woof. This one took me two days.
Aaand, you’re a bigger asshole for it.
Aren’t you a special snowflake?
If David Willis is a bigger asshole after this strip, does that mean he is secretly Sarah Palin’s anus?
You have now firmly established that you have never touched the naughty bits of your preferred gender. Thank you.
You may return to your Mother’s basement now and leave the rest of us who only go to websites we *like* alone.
That makes no sense. “Jumped the Shark” means when something becomes so bad you STOP watching/reading
Unless he’s comparing more to the tropenamer and less the trope. As in, “That was as awesome as jumping a shark”
Technically, Jumping the Shark is when something gets so ~good~ that it can’t possibly top itself, and can only go downhill from here.
Um, no, jumping the shark is the point when something passes the point of no return in terms of ridiculosity and it can never recover. It is often a last attempt to salvage a dying franchise with new! exciting! things! but it just ends up absurd.
Nono. This milks the yak. The complete opposite of jumping the shark.
The opposite of Jumping The Shark is “Growing The Beard”.
You take that back about Picard!
It’s okay. He’s allowed to be wrong. So very wrong.
Dude, that was EPIC! It’s at times like this, we remember Robin is a superhero.
Wow, that was disgusting. I loved it. “Envy of Fox news” indeed!
Astronomically large units of awesome.
Bravo, sir, BRAVO! *applauds* When you foretold that this would be Epic, you were quite right! Uh, I mean, “You betcha”. ;D
Faz. Wow. Umm, I have no words!
wait so Faz is both Tarantulas and Waspinator :O
(Also Dawson and the Dawsonnettes, who are apparently named Tayler and Tylor, are Quickstrike? I need to rewatch Code of the Hero.)
I took them to be Blackarachnia, with Dawson playing Inferno. Sarah Palin is both Rampage and Quickstrike it looks like.
also curse you sticky shift key!
I’m calling it now: Robin fell asleep watching Code of Hero.
WOW ALL OVER.
Awesome.
This may be the best Shortpacked since Mike mailed that picture to Amber.
I have wood.
1) Isn’t Robin basically a retired super-hero? Palin must be even more bad-ass than even Fox News would have us believe.
2) How are we hearing Faz?
3) This is epic. You need a tag for COMICS_THAT_WILL_NEVER_FIT_IN_BOOKS.
Fold-out page!
Wow, what a string of awesome. The beats were so well spaced out and hilarious. Plus, you sure can stage an action scene! Love it.

Anyway, I think you’ll find that, in most contexts, and in this century, only someone *really* conservative, would think of “female” as a “minority”.
Hey, if women aren’t a minority, why is there a need for a feminist movement? I calls ‘em like I sees ‘em.
Besides, it’s just a heavy-handed political joke like the writing on the hand bit in the comic here.
Y’know, it’s scary how much Obama and Palin have in common when you get right down to it.
Do you seriously not understand why there is a feminist movement despite females comprising a majority of the world’s population? Because I could be amazingly condescending, but I don’t want to waste my time in case you are just trying to get a rise out of people by saying retarded shit.

Sadly people aren’t wising up to Palin’s shtick, so she’s a shoe in for the Republican nomination in 2012.
The republican party as a whole is not dumb enough to nominate Palin.
Obama is a political centrist 0_0
Not from the campaign e-mails I get from him every day 0_0 Where do you get your news?
Robin has clearly had a strong interest in men in the past. She appears to be bisexual, not lesbian. Leslie is a lesbian, as far as we know.
Robin’s not a lesbian, no. She’s definitely on the straight half of the Kinsey Scale, as it were.
Holy shit. Just… Holy shit.
Last Stand of SEMME’d.
I keep forgetting Robin has superspeed.
(My second favorite superpower)
Rock on!
What. The. HELL.
WOW
What a fitting end to Faz and Sarah Palin lol
Haha. End.
awesome man, just awesome
“Robin is female and a lesbian, so she has the minority candidate thing covered…
Robin had no relevant experience regarding the office to which she was elected…
Robin doesn’t care about her constituents’ needs unless it keeps her in power…
Robin is unbearably smug and self-centered most of the time…

Wow, that first sentence aside, I thought you were building up to a Palin joke.
… That was awesome.
Yes, but when does Fazpinator’s head come off?
Well, now this is something, Willis o.O
Um, even for Faz, ouch, and yuck. This coming from me who totally adores Tina Fey.
This page gave me super nostalgia back to Its!Walky. Darn you, now I have to go back and read the archives again!
I know what I’d hope for . . .
But if you quit Shortpacked, you lose all your employee benefits. Plus, there’s all this annoying paperwork that human resources will have to file.
Plus, uh… think of the childrenz?
““Robin is female and a lesbian, so she has the minority candidate thing covered…”
What crazy world do you live in where “female” counts as a minority?
(Plus, female AND a lesbian? As opposed to…?)
Wow if that wasn’t an opening for a republican joke.
I think we need a desktop version of panel “I-Think-You-Know-Which”…
Awesome!
That….was awesome!
http://hoyboybob.com/images/damn.gif
That about sums it up.
That….that is easily the most awesome thing I have seen all month. Possibly all year. Possibly ever.
Bravo.
Oh My God.
I love it.
This was wonderful to the point of tears. Great job!!
Thank you for showing me something I have wanted to see for a long time, even though I didn’t realize it before.
That may be the most astute observation Faz has ever made.
That was epic and totally unexpected!
EPIC WIN, and one of the best punchlines ever from Faz at the end…
Action sequences really really really work a lot better in longer strings like this. It COULD’VE been chopped out into five pages, but this is better for getting the blood pumping.
I have no idea what the sequence is referencing, but I’m enjoying the quasi-melodrama on its own merits.

And I’m gonna go with the theory that Sarah Palin has superpowers of her own, because that’s the best explanation I can think of for her entire political career.
Yeesh. Not just any head, but Faz’s head.
Scary thought: Mike gets competitive upon seeing what was done to Faz and Palin, and tries to one up her…the mind shudders at the thought.
Ironically, I was listening to that new Transformer EVO song while reading this, which made it SO much more epic.
Ho. Ly. He. Ll.
It would be a lot easier to vote every day if you kept that link around.
So many panels… are you TRYING to kill yourself?
*blink* *blink*
Wow. I can honestly say that I never expected to see THAT.
Not that it isn’t hilarious, but it’s a pretty big change for the Walkyverse. We’ve seen lots of cartoony antics before, but they’ve always been more Justice League-impossible than Roger Rabbit-impossible.
I’m in the “And it was all a dream!” camp.
I would really like to comment, but I’m fresh out of “YES!”
Faz’s head jammed up Sarah Palin’s ass is one of the funniest graphics DW has ever shared with us.
“He’s been gone for like…a year!”
I lol’d.
…Not even Faz deserves to go THERE. There’s bound to be demons.
Go Robin! Awesome strip today, really enjoyed it. Thank you, Willis. I think you need more of Robin fighting people while just wearing panties, like she used to wear in some older strips – or did I dream that?
ok i voted Dinobot not you vote
dang link messed upTyphoon
Was the sword Nerf or metal because it did not bounce back to shape after the hit?
WOW DUDE THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!
Sarah Palin has registered a posterior breach.
WTF?!
Totally epic!!!
So does this mean Sarah Palin is an abductee? Sure would explain a lot, I guess.
Dizz-am.
Holy crap. Faz’s head up Sarah Palin’s dookiechute. This just his EPIC.
This was brilliant. I love you. Marry me?
GO ROBIN!!!!!!!!
HAH!! That was great! Loved it!
So can Faz see Russia from there?
I assume so, since that’s where Palin pulled it from….
Holy HELL. I have literally not laughed that hard at a comic strip in a veeeeery long time. Bravo, sir!
over the course of two days, i have read EVERY comic on this site, and have been inspired. Inspired to forget about furthering my career and education and to instead focus on what is truly important in life: batman jokes and transformers trivia
Willis, This strip had so much awesome in it, …I don’t even know what the hell a Dinobot is, but I voted for ‘im for yez.
Wow, that was CRAY-ZAY! I loved Mondale’s “oh, okay” XP
All-time All-American best use of Faz POSSIBLE.
Tyler and Taylor are like Dawson’s Thundercracker and Skywarp. xD
Hell, yes! Both got what they deserved. :} Kudos, Robin.
Is the “kick her ass” also a Scott Pilgrim reference? The way his roommate keeps unhelpfully yelling “kick his ass!” in the middle of fights?
This is now my favorite comic, due to Palin getting her ass kicked…Fazoscopy style.
Extra long comic for my birthday? Heck yes.
QUITE POSSIBLY YOUR BEST STRIP OF THE YEAR!!!!
DDDDDD LOVED IT!
Panel 1 -> Panel 2: RETRIBUTION!
To me, it’s got a bit of a Scott Pilgrim vibe to it, especially the “kick her ass” bit.
Wow. How is that … even … wow.
!!!!!!!! I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING!!!!
It’s funnier if you imagine Faz’s voice echoing in the last panel.
Is super speed robin’s only abductee ability?
