Quit whining, you young pup! I was born in 1964. I saw all three original Star Wars movies in the theatre…the first time. Heck! The theatre I saw them in is now a grocery store with condos above.
Wanna feel really old? My MOM was born in 1964. I was born in 1985.
To all of you born in the 80s, shame on your parents. My son is 4 and one of his favorite movies is Batteries Not Included, and he’s seen both Short Circuits multiple times.
well, i was born in 1976, so as of this posting i am 34. But i know about things from the 50′s and before, so there’s no excuse for Jacob to not have even heard of short Circuit and Johnny 5. Johnny 5 was one of the most epic things of the 80s!
Born in 1990, my father made me watch Short Circuit as a young lad. He then made me watch Short Circuit 2. I cried when Johnny 5 was beaten. We then watched Transformers: The First Movie. I cried even harder.
I was born in 1984, so my earliest memories involve The Masters of the Universe, Voltron, and GI Joe. Strangely, I never watched any Transformers back then.
My college boyfriend introduced me to Johnny 5.. Zefu, you didn’t miss much. Like many pop icons, you have to be introduced when you’re young and vulnerable. Pixar totally stole his basic design for WALL-E, though.
I was born in 1989 and I still have no idea what Short Circuit is because I refuse to look it up I think I saw Johnny 5 referenced on Family Guy though.
1987 here. I actually find it funny when other people don’t remember what I remember, like Future Robot Daltanias and Spartakus and the sun Beneath the Sea; and around here, only people older than me remember the Silverhawks.
I’m pretty sure the first time I ever heard of Johnny Five was in an issue of Boys’ Life talking about famous TV robots (It also included Tom Servo, so it was the earliest of my geeky days).
Of course I remember a SIMILAR looking robot on some Disney show. Think it was called “Wake, Rattle & Roll”?
Besides, I was trying to impress a girl. What, you’ve never flirted with a girl who was Irish or something, and said “Oh really, I’m half Irish myself!”
I was born in 1985, and pretty much raised on sci-fi, whether it was tv like Star Trek, Lost in Space, and Land of the Lost, or movies like Star Wars, Star Trek, and the Last Starfighter, needless to say, if it was remotely suitable for kids and had some Sci Fi elements to it, I probably saw it growing up
Was born in ’92 and i have seen Short Circuit; though i’m not sure what that says about my generation considering that i asked a girl at work today if she liked Star Wars, and she had no idea what it was; she started talking about Jersey Shore and i very nearly hit her.
You know, I’d always envisioned people older than me as somehow more cultured. Now I suspect that each new generation becomes less cultured, and the “elders” only look more cultured by comparison.
Hum. I was born in 1970, saw Short Circuit when it came out (though maybe not in theaters)… and didn’t think too much of it. It was ok, but I didn’t bother seeing the sequel. I didn’t remember who Johnny 5 was until UC explained it above.
But I *do* know who Johnny Test is. Because my kids watch that one.
I was born in ’85. Thanks for making me feel old.
:Sniff:

I ran projectors for the first release of Star Wars.

Born in ’88 and I agree completely.
It’s sad people don’t look at things from before they born. Short Circuit was a damn good movie.
I was born in 85 and didn’t even hear about Johnny 5 until the Nostalgia Critic did a review.
I was born in 1990 and like the guy Above I didn’t hear about Johnny 5 until The Nostalgia Critic’s review.
Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who suddenly felt old, I knew about Johnny 5 since probably 90 something… I was born in Oct of 1985 >.>
Born in 1990, my father made me watch Short Circuit as a young lad. He then made me watch Short Circuit 2. I cried when Johnny 5 was beaten. We then watched Transformers: The First Movie. I cried even harder.
I still tear up when watching those movies..
I was born in 1988, and Short Circuit scared the fuck out of me when I was about 7. All I remember is fear and pain. And possibly a robot.
Well, next to Lisa from Weird Science
I was born in ’88 but I gods-damn-well know who Johnny 5 is!
It irritates me when people use age as an excuse for ignorance.
I was born in 1990. I have no idea what you’re all talking about.
Except Star Wars.
High-five! ’90!
Dude. ’91 here. Even *I* knew who Johnny five is. BEFORE this strip. Hell, before Google. My parent’s had culture (for a time)
On behalf of the rest of us, I just wish to say, thank you for making us feel old.
November of 90, and I know everything they’re talking about. I feel old even when I’m not.
I was born in 1984, so my earliest memories involve The Masters of the Universe, Voltron, and GI Joe. Strangely, I never watched any Transformers back then.

My brother was born in 87, and he and I sing the Silverhawks theme song to each other randomly!
I’m pretty sure the first time I ever heard of Johnny Five was in an issue of Boys’ Life talking about famous TV robots (It also included Tom Servo, so it was the earliest of my geeky days).

I was born in ’87 and I LOVED short Circuit… and Batteries Not Included. anyone remember that one?!?
Agreed! ’93 and loved Short Circuit, Short Circuit 2 (to a lesser extent, of course), and Batteries Not Included!
Man. I need to watch those again!
I’m 907.
And anyone who claims otherwise because of something 7th me said is a liar! 907, and no older. Because of…time. Wibbly wobbly time. That’s why.
Number 8 claimed to be half-human (on his mother’s side). 10 claims that’s all hogwash.
We don’t discuss that.
Besides, I was trying to impress a girl. What, you’ve never flirted with a girl who was Irish or something, and said “Oh really, I’m half Irish myself!”
Aren’t you now 1100 and something
i think at the original posting he was only 907 but yeah should be just over 1107 now I think
I was born in ’91. Guess that means I’m the youngest one here!
I got you beat. I was born in ’94 :B

>_> I have a sudden desire, upon re-reading this strip, to see Robin running faster than him going “Meep meep!”
Was born in ’92 and i have seen Short Circuit; though i’m not sure what that says about my generation considering that i asked a girl at work today if she liked Star Wars, and she had no idea what it was; she started talking about Jersey Shore and i very nearly hit her.
Seriously? I think I want to cry.

Jeeze, all you kids get off my lawn (born in 1957).
I was born in 1995 and watched short circuit when I was 10
