Joyce and Walky!: Meanwhile, back in HTMLworld…
So, yay! This site should be up everywhere now. We’re operating on the superschnazzy ComicPress plugin for WordPress, a feat which was orchestrated by Our Friend Phil from frumph.net. He is, perhaps, the greatest man alive.
Why? Well let’s see what we can do now. First of all, dude, we have real storyline navigation. That’s something I haven’t really had working since moving from Keenspot, and this is 30 times better than that was. There’s a narrow menu bar on the right under the first adspace which will take you anywhere in the archives.
There’s also tags! Once everything IS tagged, you’ll be able to look through comics by character or pop culture reference. The first thing I did was go through and tag all the Batman strips, so if you want to see them, all you hafta do is look at the right on the very bottom and there’ll be a tag cloud. (I got through tagging all of them before I realized I had given Robin (DeSanto) and Robin (the Boy Wonder) the same tag. Whoops. Well, it’s fixed now, but…)
There’s also a Random Strip navigation button. This will eat up all your time.
Also on the navigation bar, if you like a strip, you can buy a print of it. You can even bundle it with a book, if you like. And there’s a comments section and whatnot.
See the first narrow menu bar on the right? If you’re reading through the entire archives, you can click a button and keep your place! And then later you can return to it and resume reading.
And have I mentioned: Real Honest-to-Gosh RSS feed? Click that Autobot logo on Robin’s mammobombs.
I am serious. This is the best site in the world. There are still some things to do, so bear with me, but please take a look around. But hey, unlike joyceandwalky.com (still), it’s not running on 15-year-old code. (That 15-year-old code was fucking awesome 15 years ago, I tell you.)
Some new additions:
1) The update time is now midnight EST, or one hour later than usual.
2) The link to the BLC forum will be up at the top soon. It merely got overlooked in the move.
3) Please don’t post which tags are needed below each untagged comic! I will tag all the comics when I can, and the lists of tags needed don’t actually accomplish anything for me. Instead, they just flood out the other posts I need to moderate. Thanks, though!

I hate it when toy companies change packaging, it’s so confusing…
Nice
And now my Live-journal account is officially useless.
Is the SP forum mean to die now?
No, it’s just not added into the header yet. It was there in the test page, but got left out during the move. That was unintentional. It’d be up there already if I could figure out how to do it myself.
Fixed!
What JDavis said.
Now I’m going to have to set up a Gravatar account so my allspark image can be used here.
Which is good in itself, because my hand drawn on binder paper ones sucked.
Hey willis, can we still have multiple avatars like livejournal, or are you stuck giving everyone a thumbs up now?
Ahhhhh, none of the old URLs work anymore! I had index.html bookmarked before and hoo boy was getting a 404 on that kind of scary.
New rss?
It’s new, yes! It’ll give you both comic posts and blog posts. You can find it either at the top through the Autobot logo or the RSS text link at the very bottom.
Awesomesalsa!
Looking great! I did notice a couple of problems, however.
Old comic URLs should be redirecting to their new counterparts with HTTP response code 301, in order to preserve search engine rank and reader’s bookmarks. You appear to be using Apache, so this can be done in either the httpd.conf or .htaccess files.
Also the 4/9 link in the archive for some reason leads to that day’s blog post rather than to the comic. Ideally, archive date links should probably go to a page containing all the day’s content.
Finally! An archive page! That doesn’t work…right…dammit.
I was hoping the Autobot symbol would point to something more awesome than rss. >_> Like the new look, though.
You should try and get some lighter colors. It looks too dark.
testing captcha
Aargh. It is, by almost any standard, a better site all around.
…It takes for-frakkin’-ever to load on sodastraw dialup. -_-;
Wow, shiny new layout. It looks awesome!
Love the new site design, even though it’s a work in progress. You should totally swap back in the vintage G1 toy instructions arrow graphics, though.
Drawing up new versions of those for this site was one of the first things I did, but they’re simply to wide to allow for all of the other navigation buttons that are required.
Looks great, but can we get nav buttons back at the TOP of the strip? That was something that was improved on in the last site version, but now we’ve lost it. Hate missing a few days and then having to scroll past the punchline of the current strip before I’ve read the previous strip.
Check around Robin’s mammobombs.
oh, sweet! were those there yesterday? Maybe I just thought that Robin was cold. Nice…now I get to navigate AND touch a boobie a the same time.
So, are the archive links ever going to redirect to their new equivalents, or are they Dead Forever?
['Cause there's a load of old-style links on Walkypedia alone, let alone throughout the interwebz. Those broken links are really going to hurt your google ranking...]
If you find someone thats *really* awesome at .htaccess 301 redirects that can make a regexp that can convert a date into a uri permalinks tructure based on category and title slug.
… So, i’m basically sayingthe walkypedia needs to be updated with new links.
Good
Yes… i also really like to visit new place, your idea is good.
