Aw – he’s been dickish long before Roboto. Heck, not telling everyone about the entire run of bad shoulders on Roboto until AFTER he sold out was simply the latest in a long line of dickish behavior.
Frankly I’m a little surprised you haven’t gotten a nasty gram from Matty himself – parody notwithstanding.
I still don’t know how anybody can tell that his shoulders are backwards.
You can sort of tell if you squint hard enough…the circuitry would line up, I think. Good thing I don’t give a shit.
The point of the strip – which is, I think, really a fair one – is that Matty became a dick in response to the unreasonable level of man-child tantrums he has to deal with.
A lot of people complained about being forced to buy defective goods because of the sub, but seriously, it’s impossible not to know about this sort of thing. You can’t spit in a conversation about Matty without hitting a hundred haters.
I agree with your second paragraph inasmuch as it’s true for any fandom. Whether Geewunner, Vintage Joe ARAH’er or original MOTU’er – people are crazy.
That being said, the Matty we now know and love in a completely dysfunctional way was the new mascot before things really started to go south in the man-boy hate club. For all the unreasoning hatred from fanboys – Mattel is not completely innocent in all this either.
Well, they continue to hatefuck us on price from their crap website.
Their website is genuinely terrible. I hate it.
But I don’t really think their prices are all that bad, considering the economics of scale. If you produce a limited number of things, it’s going to cost more.
I do appreciate the burn on “Serious” collectors. In fact, i appreciate mocking people without humour in all situations. I have serious doubts about dealing with Matty.com in future tho…
According to the first panel, Matty is ten feet tall.
This is terrifying beyond all reason.
Considering all the problems Mattel has with their website since they started it, and has apparently never done anything about, I think Matty been acting like a jerk long before Roboto. Still, I agree with Willis about people complaining about their prices. Reminds me of people complaining about the prices at the GI Joe and Transformers Collector Club stores. Yes, their exclusives cost much more then retail, but as he says. they’re only producing a limited number, and that drives up the cost.
I would think that realizing that patrons of the site had to see Matty every time the White Screen of Death reloaded would probably have nudged him twoards his current state too.
