Ahahahaha. I’d never tried using MattyCollector to get anything He-Man before Optikk, since until last Monday I only cared about things from DC or Ghostbusters. This was to my credit, as I am a being who is filled enough already with hate. I don’t need any more!
About five minutes before noon, up pops the “don’t refresh, you’re in a queue” page. This page is bullshit. It will only keep the people who read it and follow its instructions from getting access to the website. While you heed its words to not refresh and be a good little boy, all of the smarter people are refreshing and getting the shit you’re waiting for.
And sometimes the refresh page doesn’t even work.
My refresh page was still refreshing, like clockwork, every three seconds… the next day. It never went to the website proper, even long after Optikk was sold out. It was broken. MattyCollector.com is broken, as a rule. But it works well enough that Mattel can get their money, so oh well. Deal with it, dorks. (Doesn’t that sound familiar.)
Me, I’m lucky enough to have folks willing to help me out, and so I have an Optikk on the way, despite being robbed of one like most other people were.
(And, heh, for those of you wondering, it’s actually the word “buggy” that’s being censored in today’s strip, but feel free to substitute your favorite curse in its place.)

I feel your pain, man. It did that to me while processing payment for Tytus.
I did get an Optikk, though. Glad you’ve got someone hooking you up with one. He’s a fun figure.
My condolences. I never really had an issue with their autorefresh since they added it. The thing that’s gotten me before was the website randomly thinking certain items don’t exist so you can’t check out. I missed out on a Trap Jaw in the time it took them to realize that Man-At-Arms actually was supposed to be for sale.
Weird. I picked up Hordak a while back and didn’t encounter any kind of “queue” page at all. Maybe all the other users were in bed when I made the order…
Hordak was a reissue, so he lasted a bit longer than the other figures. That meant you could afford to order him at times other than within five to ten minutes of the sale opening.
The screen referenced in this comic usually only appears for about the first hour of a sale day, and it’s intended to keep their servers from getting killed.
The trouble is, it’s most definitely not a first in, first out situation. You can load the page on a separate computer after the first is in the refresh queue, and sometimes you get in sooner. You can also occasionally manually refresh and it’ll go through.
So, like the comic says, you effectively get punished if you follow the directions on the page.
Ah ok, I was kind of surprised to find they were still available almost a day after becoming available.
You’ll be pleased to know your Optikk is in the mail and on the way. You should see him by the end of the week at the latest.
Welcome to the world of Matty (TM).
Its hard line sales tactics to get people to buy a subscrption. in July during SDCC. They’ll get their subscribers this year and then some.
If they mess up delivering the figures as they did with Teela last year or don’t get any more “record sellouts”, then the line is pretty much dead in the water. This is according to their brand manager, Scott Neitlich. He’s the Devil compared to Aaron Archer, whom many may cast as the Devil at some time in history but at least Hasbro can deliver their products to customers without going through this much trouble.
