Hey, look, it’s more DC Direct stuff! (Why haven’t they done a series based on Amanda Conner’s Powergirl material? C’mon, dudes!)
First up is my Arkham Asylum “Battle Damaged” Batman. I didn’t even know he existed until the last day of Comic-Con. Earlier in the week I’d seen the pristine AA Batman in the display case, noted he came out in about nine months, and then marked my mental calender to covet him later. But then my pal Tony (aka Sarevock) came to me Sunday morning, noted he had a chance to get some Arkham Asylum Batman that was exclusive to the show, and hell yeah, yes, give me one of those. I generally don’t care for battle damaged stuff, but here’s the thing. Or things. First of all, you spend like half the game looking like the battle damaged version of the toy. So no big. And second, dude, the non-battle damaged version comes out NEXT YEAR. I’m pretty okay with getting the roughed-up version that much earlier. I mean, dude.
He’s what you expect in a DC Direct Batman. Sorta stiff poseability, a stand, and some pretty paintwork.
The Stephanie Batgirl I’d been waiting for for a while. Seriously, they solicit these things like a year in advance, it feels like. I’ve been enjoying her comic, and I wanted one of her in plastic. She comes with a stand, a batarang, and a nightstick. The nightstick is way too skinny for her to hold in her hands, but I later discovered a stowing area on the back of her belt that it fits into pretty well. Again, standard articulation. And, yay, hooray, Stephanie, you’re not dead!

You know, despite the fact that I read this comic religiously, I don’t actually generally buy toys, preferring to spend my money on entertainment. However, for Stephanie Brown, I shall have to make an exception.
Reading David’s toy buying posts gives you roughly the same experience anyway, without the expense.
And they’re ocassionally handy to show to my partner to show there are worse things to collect than comics…
Walky at least seems to keep his stuff to (Mostly) reasonably priced pointless dust collectors.
The Japanese toy robot scene? I swear these guys have to have meth labs in their basement. When the Collection DX guys have a videopodcast thingie and one of their earliest topics was “When did you pop your 4 digit cherry?” something be kinda messed up.
That’s right. 1000+ dollar toys are NORMAL for some collectors. One of the dudes spent closer to FIVE figures for one toy.
I just don’t get it. I feel like a doofus spending 10 on a toy. At 50 I feel worse, and I have only gone over 100 a handful of times. (G1 Scorponok and Brave Maximus are the only ones I can recall though. And BM I sold for around double what I paid for him.)
There is one big name collector from the J Toy circle who died. He had over 1200 pieces almost all still MISB/C. His mother is having some ebay seller put them all up. On average each piece is going for a C note each.
It just seems a little.. sad somehow.
Though ultimately as long as yer paying your bills and taking care of the important stuff, its your dang money, do what you will with it.
But they’re not toys, they’re collectibles!
Geez, I haven’t even gotten into the over-$50 heavy petting.
it is so super-infuriating that there’s no Red Robin action figure, but Jason-Todd-design-for-four-issues gets one.
What’s really frustrating is that all the “Jenny-come-latelies” get figures, but no figure of the original Bat-Girl – Betty Kane. And no, Flamebird doesn’t count. I want Bat-Girl.

That one?
Huh. I wonder if they’re going to make new Young Justice toy sets for the new show…
Power Girl can’t get figures until they figure out how to make her stand up properly and not just fall forward.

Seconded!

Are you sure she comes with a nightstick, and not a misnamed fracas?
Tim Drake is soon to be dead..I think.
Really? They ruin Robin then kill him? DC are Jerks.
RR#15 is “The Assassination of Tim Drake”
SPOILERS: he’s not dead
In fact for the second time since he’s changed his ID, he’s out-Bruced Bruce.
And Tim’s awesome plots got us some Miss Martian visitation.
And she is the DCU’s equivalent of SG Ravage in bringing shiny happy times to what otherwise seems like dreary misery and angst.
Besides, Tim can’t die. He has a potential love triangle with Tam Fox and Stephanie Brown to deal with now and that can only be incredibly fun.
Hmm.. getting rid of Bruce Wayne has sort of made the Batverse fun in general.
Who would have thought Damian would be kind of awesome and Stephanie would be an utterly kick ass Batgirl?
They even managed to slightly make up for the Teen Titans HAHAHA LETS HAVE MARV AND WENDY GET MAULED BY THEIR DOG nonsense.
Though I don’t even think the current Batfamily writers with Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, and Art Bal. could fix Roy Harper though…
