Tomorrow night: Why Beast Wars is awesome.
I’m home! Let me drone on about one of my convention purchases, a reissued Blaster and some of his cassettes deployers. Why the hell would I buy a toy I already have in still-great condition?
I guess it might be the three little dudes he comes with who I don’t have. I have no Steeljaw, no Ramhorn, no Eject. That might be an incentive.
I guess it might also be his awesome-as-hell packaging, with the metallic slip-cover over the book-box deal. And the lengthy bio on the back is less icing on the cake than it is a cake made entirely of icing, perhaps as a side dish. It doesn’t only flesh out Blaster’s character, but it provides all sorts of nerdy little things about Cybertron’s history and pre-war culture. Oh, and Blaster’s still a boom-box because cassette tapes are great for bootlegging music.
But no, the real dealbreaker is that Blaster’s legs are a slightly different color. Instead of silver, they’re a metal-flaked beige. That really got my attention, for reasons I should probably be ashamed. Is that all it takes? Is that really it? One slightly different color? Sure, his legs are sometimes brownish in the original comics, but…
Yeah, it was the warmer leg color.
I think I need an intervention.

I’d say you needed an intervention, only I’m currently coveting that release for the Eject. So it’s not like I can talk.
Why didn’t you get the cassettes/Deployers/whatever hasbro wants to call them for kids today when Takara Reissued them? I went from having just a weaponless Overkill to having all the casettes they’ve reissued so far, with no regrets (even if it means having like 3 Lazerbeaks and Ravages). So cool to finally have these toys I never had as a kid, but always wanted.
Probably because they weren’t an option while waiting in line 30 minutes for something else I wanted way more. (Sergeant Slaughter)
And, y’know, the beige legs being the dealmaker, as stated.
Blaster ranks just under Scorponok for my favorite G1 comics character so for 50 bucks this is a no brainer. Already ordered on Hasbrotoyshop.
I would love some of the Fansproject G1 toys (The 2 Combaticons RUUUUULLLLE.) but they cost 50 each. Blaster is 50 AND 3 tapes and fancypants packaging ala the Toynami Robotech masterpiece line cept with the toys being FUN.
Can SG Ravage fit into Blaster’s chest in tape-mode?
I’m glad it’s Eject and not Rewind.
Eject is the “Buzzsaw” of Blaster’s cassettes.
He does consistently awesome stuff…only to be overshadowed by the others.
