There’s been a dearth of toy talk from me recently, but only because I gots no new toys to talk about! It’s a very dead period for me, apparently. There’s gonna be some new Transformers soon, right? Some G.I. Joes? Oh, lord, please, yes.
Just because I’m not gabbing about toys doesn’t mean I’m not keeping myself busy. This weekend I’m going up to Troy, Michigan, for Penguicon. Really, I’m just helping out Howard Tayler (Schlock Mercenary) and his wife at their table. They’re Distinguished Guests at the convention, and so they both have panels they gotta be on, and thus need a dude to hold down the fort. In exchange for helping them out, I get a corner to do my thing.
It’s been a while since Howard and I have tangoed, so I’m looking forward to it. There’s the usual ice-breaking “your mom” joke, followed by the usual “my mother is already passed away” retort, followed by my usual awkward silence…
Why does Howard tolerate me again?
Also, I’ll get to see my favorite highway signage in all the land, Big Beaver Road, Exit 69. Oh, how I’ve missed you.

Man, I would have loved to go, but it’s a little too far away, and out of my budget at the moment. If only you were coming to Youmacon in November, when I actually have money…
Ah, well. My twisted attempts to hunt you down will bear fruit someday, just you wait.
This time, you could try telling him that cartoons aren’t cool, then see if his creations all disappear into paper until the battle of the bands.
Then you have a battle of the bands at his booth.
It’ll be great to see you there!
The Duckman
…Don’t worry, you’ll understand the name when you see me.
Is it just me or does mike almost look remorseful? Or is that me reading in things that I want to see.
That is indeed some pretty awesome signage. Take a picture for us?
Wahey- are all of the non-comic-related blogposts supposed to stand alone? Under the older, whiter background, LahvJurrnal paradigm, hitting the “previous” button would take you back to whatever the previous blogpost was, regardless of whether it was attached to a regular comic update or not. I’ve missed a couple of these because I hit “previous” from the comic post and it jumps straight back to the previous comic, over the heads of the toy/con related posts.
If you want to look through only the blogs, you can click through the Blog category: http://shortpacked.com/category/blog/
Nonono, I’m not elitist, I’m lazy- I just miss the decadent American ease of first going to the current comic comments and being able to “previous” back to the previous comments whether they were toybloggy or comicy or just bitching about stupid fundamentalists or whatever. Now I have to go through and individually select them all. Damn you, Willis! Damn you for making me take two or three seconds of effort to see this awesome free content you make totally for free! I demand a refund!
OH David, I’m so glad someone else is a fan of Big Beaver Road. Whenever I have to visit my future in-laws in Michigan, that stupid exit sign gives me a big smile. You should go to the mall on Big Beaver Road….it’s awesome.
Ahhh, Big Beaver Road. I used to live in that area, and for 3 years I got off at that exit after work (ahem). I can believe it when I hear that it’s the most-stolen Interstate sign in America.
Welcome to MI!
Ah, good ol’
16 MileMetro ParkwayQuartonBig Beaver Road. Been a while since I worked up that way. Wish I’d paid attention to the fact that the con was coming up, I might’ve been able to attend (since I still live/work pretty much right down the road). As far as frequently stolen road signs go, I hear I-94′s exit 88 gets plenty of attention, too.
(Second time’s the charm!)
