If I remember correctly this was around the time a lot of newpapers slashed their funnies and the syndicates and cartoonists sneered when it was suggested that maybe the cartoonists could switch to a webcomic format.
Advertising dollars pay for newspapers, same as for television, radio, etc. All media ultimately exists as a way of tricking people into experiencing advertising. Don’t believe me on account of channels like HBO and Showtime? How many people have bought boxed sets of The Sopranos? And videos are just a means of advertising for all the merchandise.
Yeah, the only real difference is that a webcomic is a little more direct in it’s advertising (i.e. the artists usually know about the ads… which makes it better regardless, if you ask me). People who don’t know where the money that buys there stuff comes from have always bothered me.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear…
BIBLE REFERENCE! Atheists converge!
No.
Fool! Even now Gabe and Tycho are flying a rocketship made of money to the moon, which they own.
I never did get this comic. Is there an inside joke I’m missing out on?
Yeah. The joke is that Is how Willis makes a living off of these comics; ads, t-shirts, miniatures and the works.

I believe this was inspired by Ted Rall’s ranting on the Daily Cartoonist site and other forums.
And considering how much of comic books today are actually ads, it adds another layer of ugh-that-guy to it.
nice hanna montana poster

I still have one of those Roomies! T-shirts. I got it back when Roomies! was running and being hosted by..a different website.
