How many people actually checked to see if this site was real? It must have been at one point, but now it's just an FTP gateway into an empty server. Not sure if joke site, or taken down.

There is a slight error in the Julian Calender, so the solstice slipped back a few days over the centuries until pope Gregory brought in the Gregorian Calender to correct the error. The error is so small it is only really noticeable over centuries. Something like a change of 3 days every 400 years.

So actually, Christmas and the Winter Solstice were once exactly the same date.

"Christmas isn't Christmas without Christ" is asaying I used to hear often.
Sounds good, but FALSE! Chrismas is based on the holiday for the Winter Solstice and the birthday of, get this, the Greek-pagan sun god Helios!
Chrismas is held on the day that it is because the newly formed religion of Christianity wanted to make the conversion form paganism to Christianity as easy as possible.

By all estimates, Jesus was actually born sometime in March

[...] I recently caught back up on Shortpacked! after losing track of it for a while. (It has an RSS feed now!) I have to link this page (which in and of itself holds no plot spoilers which I can think of) because I can’t stop chuckling every time I see it. Ooh, this one too. [...]

Isn't the Winter Solstice BEFORE Christmas? As in, December 21st? I'm not sure they're related, just at similar times. *is Pagan*
