That’s why I’m here. I linked to Shortpacked! from another webcomic, liked the look of it, so I went back to the beginning. Now, as I’m reading through it, I discover that it’s interconnected to Willis’ other comics – one of which is 13 years old! Oh, when will I ever get caiught up?
Uh jeez, me too. I found it through TVTropes. The page image for Insane Troll Logic made me laugh so hard I had to know what it was from. I found out it was Shortpacked! and I had to read it. Whee! Almost caught up!
Yeah, I started reading this after finding a link to it as well. I also discovered the fact that it was related to past comics. I recently started reading those, too.
Here’s the kicker:
I discovered that Roomies, the first comic, was a comic I had started reading ages aog, but could never remember the name to.
WHAT.
the walkyverse has been on my ‘to binge’ list for an uncountable number of years, and months after reading through DoA, i finally sat down and read it. all of it up to here, minus the pay-for pages of joyce and walky (i’m cheap). it’s been… interesting.
mike is my favorite character in walkyverse, but not in DoA.
perhaps i will reread DoA after i finish my work here.
Funny thing, I started with Roomies after reading about it on the Archive Binge page of Tvtropes. So, yhea, I spent the last four day trapped inside Roomies, It’s Walky, one third of Joice and Walky, Dumbing of Age and now Shortpacked and I can’t even blame someone else for all of this. It’s kinda sad, really.
I got here from following Linkara on twitter, he retweeted an interesting q&a from Willis, whose twitter is @shortpacked, I got curious about what shortpacked was, and eventually read all of Roomies and its Walky, and have spread out to the various crossover comics such as Something Positive and Girls with Slingshots, but that is another story
No way I came here through Linkara too although as I’m something of a Continuity nerd I decided to read the early stuff first just so I wouldn’t be lost when it came to references.
I followed Roomies from 2000, then went to It’s Walky right up till it ended in 2005 or so. After that I thought everything had stopped from Willis, I went to the old it’s Walky site by accident the other day and noticed it was still being updated irregularly but there was a new comic.
Man it was like going back to 2005 all over again been reading it for the last week.
Personally, I found the link to this comic from a Linkara: Atop the Fourth Wall video, off of That Guy With The Glasses, that had the web address at the end of the video. I’m glad i decided to check it out. I have been reading the archives from the beginning for a little over a week now. I think this is one of the most awesome webcomics i have read.
Same here! Very glad I came here. Although I’ve tried to get through Roomies! I’ve found it quite hard going, can someone suggest the jumping in point that isn’t the very beginning?!
I ‘think’ this is my 6th day into the binge, its all merged into one! (a mate posted a link to shortpacked on fb) i realised about halfway though shortpacked i was missing something so a few googlings and clicking about from here, i got the order and tried to start at the beginning…
Now this whole thing with Mike/Amber and what might have happened to people after the war is awesome (really enjoying it!!!) In a way i would love to see it all go back for a visit to those days of Alien Drama…
I suppose after i’ve finished on this run (ONLY one more year worth to go!) I’ve got two options, either go back and start again or let myself read whats on the walkypedia pages…
I started binging about two days ago. There are so many webcomics interlinked with each other I’ve stopped keeping count…um…I came here from Something Positive – > Dumbing of Age – > It’s Walky – > Dumbing of Age (here was the whole, “HOLY FUCK IT’S JOYCE” period, which came with a cooldown) – > Shortpacked!
I began reading It’s Walky around 2002, right when it began going from good to amazingly great. I did an archive binge then to get caught up, then read it until the end.
But I only began reading Shortpacked two weeks ago. I decided to go ahead and read through all of Willis’ stuff, starting once again with Roomies. Once I’m caught up with Shortpacked, I’ll start on Dumbing of Age (that’ll be weird, considering I was just reading about Joyce in college a month ago.)
I have no idea where I linked from but I know I lost a couple of hours there somewhere .. last I remember it was Tuesday afternoon … is it still Tuesday?
I actually didn’t link here from anywhere. I was reading through the Fans! archive for the second time, when I went through the Fans!/It’s Walky! crossover. (I actually found Fans via their CRFH!!! crossover. I don’t remember how I found them.) After a couple of failed searches, I found “It’s Walky!”, and began reading from “Roomies”.
After I caught up with that, I wandered over to Shortpacked!, and discovered my favorite character from any medium of entertainment ever showing up in the third comic. I’ve been binging ever since.
Somehow got to Dumbing of Age, and landed here. I know some of these characters are interconnected, so I’ve been reading shortpacked close to a day total now, and am still catching up!
*ahem*
friend and i were going over latest cyanide and happiness.
saw they did some guestwork for something*positive as randy milholland was sick.
read that archive as i didnt get the aubrey and mike joke about a game…
found the wedding crossovers with girls with slingshots, and the continued cat stuff.
read girls with slingshots archive.
found the eventual cat blackmail to shortpacked!, and started with roomies! after checking this out once or twice a week while archive bingeing the rest.
of those, this is the only that really goes through time and grows up with you.
you can infer/imply willis went to college for roomies!, then drama, then did drugs and begat It’s walky! as he made his way through life he found a girl(joyce and walky), all the while working what you thought was your dream job here at shortpacked!.
I started reading back in the early keenspot days, and have had willis’ comics bookmarked for regular reading ever since. Every now and again, though, you gotta reread an entire comic because you forget so much when you just read weekly like I do.
Believe me, this is a lot easier than going back through sluggy freelance.
I was going through another comic’s archive (don’t remember which) and its writer called the writer to this comic “Harry Potter’s older brother.” I thought it was referring to a character, so I hunted down that date in the archive and found nothing related to it.
So I went back about a month in the archives and read through to see if I’d get the joke. By the time I figured it out, I’d been hooked and was forced to go back to the beginning of Shortpacked!. After this I will probably have to go read all the previous comics, because I’m just that compulsive.
The funny thing is that I’ve never bothered to read Harry Potter and couldn’t care less about him. I was just confused because I could have sworn there was no brother.
The nice part is that now that I’m reading this I’ve started understanding SO many references other comics have made to this one.
I came over from QC, when Amber was shown ordering a drink from Coffee of Doom. This is my second archive trawl, first since reading the full Walky story.
Same for me. I linked over a good long while ago from QC when Jeph was cursing out Willis for “stealing”. Every now and then I get bored and Archive crawl through my favs, and I’m finally on my way back through Shortpacked! after finally breaking down and going through Roomies/It’s Walky!/Joyce and Walky.
I believe it was Candi–>Emergency Exit–>Crossover Wars–>Zortic–>Mayberry Melonpool–>It’s Walky–>Shortpacked and that was all a few years ago now I’m rereading itsince I have memory problems and the Shortpacked site became a complete Internet Error last time I was reading it
I found this comic, interestingly enough, when reading Your Webcomic is Bad and You Should Feel Bad. Although I generally agree(d) with John Solomon, I don’t mind the drama in Shortpacked.
Well, since we’re on the subject…
xkcd ==>
Questionable Content/Dinosaur Comics (qwantz)/Dr. Mcninja ==>
(from QC) Sins Venials/El Goonish Shive/Scenes from a Multiverse/Wasted Talent ==>
(from EGS ads) Dumbing of A-whoa, wait, backstory? Ugh, where are my energy drinks?…
I started with xkcd, then moved to SMBC and from there to Dumbing of Age from which I found out about the 13 years of archive. So I started with Roomies! and am now near to the point that I’ll be able to re-read through DoA.
I started reading “It’s Walky!” around 2003-2004, and did an archive crawl through all the “Roomies” stuff to catch up. I kept up with “Shortpacked!” and “Joyce and Walky” until around 2009, when I stopped having much time to read stuff online. I’d honestly forgotten about “Shortpacked!” until I watched a video on YouTube the other day (“Shortpacked” by Deadly Fists of Kung Fu, which I originally found from a “Shortpacked!” blog entry), which led to the video of the “I Knew It First” strip, which led to me typing in the comic’s URL and me clicking on the archives link, so I could do a mini-binge to catch up.
I ended up here because I saw several Project Wonderful ads for a comic called Dumbing of Age with a character with F***ING NEON ICE-BLUE EYES. I forgot about it until I saw the Insane Troll Logic page on TVTropes, it brought me to the Walkyverse page, and, well…
I started with the print Knights of the Dinner Table comic book crossover with FANS! At about the same time I also had found College Roomies From Hell!
I’m trying to remember if I realized FANS! was in existence online through that crossover or if I hit it in another way, but I was overjoyed to see it was so.
Eventually through discussion forums I heard about It’s Walky! (what’s with all these damn exclamation points) and ended up having to start at Roomies and hit the whole darn thing.
I guess I thought everything had stopped around end of Walky with only a couple of Walky & Joyce cartoons.
I don’t know how the hell I ran into some banner for Dumbing of Age, probably on Cinnemassacre AVGN site, but I was all like “Joyce? What the hell…” and now I’m back.
I got here through the crossover with Multiplex. No idea where I found Multiplex (pretty much near the beginning of my list of webcomics. So been reading THAT a few years at least. Originally entered webcomics via Sluggy Freelance after finding a couple of comics in the back of a John Ringo book. Now… have over 100 webcomics that do, or did at some point, update on a Monday. Yes, i have so many webcomics i organize them by day they update.
I got here through Dumbing of Age (Which is my all time favorite web comic). I remember someone posting one comic strip of it and I started that series. A few days ago I decided to look back at David’s other stuff.
I started reading It’s Walky (starting with Roomies! archives) sometime around 2000, 2001. Lotta overlap between the IW! fanbase and that of other Keenspot (at the time) comics I was reading, particularly Avalon. (*pours out a Barq’s in memoriem*) I’ve just kind of followed along since. Been reading Shortpacked! and DoA since the beginning.
Doing a complete Walkyverse archive binge right now, which started a month or so ago when I peeked ahead of the Roomies! reruns, and kept peeking further and further ahead until, well, here I am. (And re-read DoA from the beginning between J&W and tackling Shortpacked!) I’d forgotten just how long Shortpacked! has been running…
Is it wrong that in my mind, Mike’s dad sounds like Wilson from Home Improvement?
Noooo! Wilsonnnnn!
Damn you! Now I hear it too!
Is it just me or did everyone chose the same couple of weeks to archive binge?
That’s why I’m here. I linked to Shortpacked! from another webcomic, liked the look of it, so I went back to the beginning. Now, as I’m reading through it, I discover that it’s interconnected to Willis’ other comics – one of which is 13 years old! Oh, when will I ever get caiught up?
Woa, same here pal!
but i guess that, the catch up status is close thou!
ps: this Mike/ Amber arc its pretty awesome.
Uh jeez, me too. I found it through TVTropes. The page image for Insane Troll Logic made me laugh so hard I had to know what it was from. I found out it was Shortpacked! and I had to read it. Whee! Almost caught up!
I came here from DOA, which I got to from El Goonish Shive. And damn, I guess I’m a few months late.
WHOOO EGS. Just telling the truth I found this through QC, then I found EGS.
So horray for binging. XD
Yeah, I started reading this after finding a link to it as well. I also discovered the fact that it was related to past comics. I recently started reading those, too.

Another one binging, here! Came here following a link from some other comic
Yeah I saw a project wonderful ad and it looked good. Thus began the great comic binge of 2010.
Was it Something Positive by any chance coz that’s where I came from as well.
Thats where I came from. And now I can’t stop..
I came from Girlswithslingshots
Girls With Slingshots -> Dumbing Of Age -> Shortpacked! for me.
wooooooooooo
Same here!

Oh, and in my head Mike’s dad sounds EXACTLY like Bing Crosby.
I came here from TV Tropes about three years ago. I’m just binging on the comic again.

jesus christ ive been reading webcomics since i was like 12
