i’m going to tangent real quick with my current mike theories, if that’s okay:
as a child, mike was raised by these two, sweet, honest people, who did nothing but encourage him. they’d had principals, and they stuck to them 100%.
then mike became old enough to witness and comprehend it’s world, and how it’s filled with liars, hypocrites, frauds, and people of inconsistent ethics. then he was abducted, and faced more horrors. so, obviously, mike decided, to try his best to make the world suffer, especially those who betray their own ethics.
because he wants the world to be as great as his parents.
ha! am I the only one to recognize the Octopus Pie cameo?
Um….yes?
Now you’re not.
shit is true!
I bought an Octopus Pie book months before this comic came out, and I never noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out!
HOLY FUCK
Now I feel really unobservant.
Thanks for pointing that out, I’d have totally missed it
Mike’s dad is charmingly oblivious to the fact that he raised a monster. Or he likes pointing out the obvious…
That’s Amber talking in the last panel, not Mike’s dad.
Guys! Does no one else recognize Giant Mutated Honeybun!?!?!?
You’re not the only one, ilvos. The newspapers in the last few pages have been mentioning the giant, mutant honeybun.
Giant Mutant Frosted Honey Bun.
Also, when I read the third panel (I.E., the red rumble part), I heard George Takei saying “Rumble-rumble-rumble” in a slightly bored tone.
It liiiiiiiiiives!!
Was the giant honey bun ever given a gender or is it an “it”?
He WAS in that movie, who knows though

alternatively, mike is a huge jerk who wants to make the world suffer because he’s a huge jerk that makes the world suffer.
I like your first theory, but wouldn’t Mike treat his mom and dad as royalty if he viewed them as pretty much the only good thing in the world?
