Finally. This whole time Mike’s father was saying, “atta boy” whenever Mike said something. Now he finally realized that some of the things Mike does aren’t worth praising. I swear if he said “atta boy” when Mike talked about the Gay sex I would have screamed. :3 XD
1. Joyce was presumed “gone to missionary work in Africa” or some such. So not all.
2. What Mike’s parents say above seems to indicate that they didn’t know anything unusual was going on with him until they got the death notice. I’m guessing he just never calls or contacts them, period.
i am re-reading this, and it occurred to me – mike was (according to the walkypedia) born in 79. it’s 09 in this strip, making him roughly thirty. if he was enlisted ten years ago, he would’ve been twenty, and his parents would’ve received news of his death when he was 24 (in 04.) at that point, his room became a shrine. but if he wasn’t even enlisted until he was twenty, why does his room still have teddy bear wallpaper? it’s not like he disappeared when he was six and they kept his room the same. theoretically, he grew up in that room. as unlikely as a six year old mike agreeing to teddy bear wallpaper seems, a fifteen year old mike allowing it is just unbelievable.
He is back from Hell of course! Like Reagan and McCaim!
He WAS in Hell, but Satan got scared of him. Plus he kept taking Satan’s mom. For a nickel.
If I were him, I’d have held out for more.
I like how it finally sinks in for Mike’s dad in the last panel about what his son had said in the third…
Also, I want to see Mike’s dad and Joe meet, that would be awsome…
okk, that explains my comment two strips ago.
See, told you so.
I did not stop laughing for like 4 minutes after that. I actually felt like The Joker when he had his funny streaks going.
A friggin explanation!
…kinda. It’s better than nothing.
Also… was it periodical alien abductions that made Mike so evil!?!?!
Or just perfect parents. That would drive anybody insane.
He was in the Cheese for a while with the rest of the agents who died, he was presumably resurrected from there
That wasn’t “in the Cheese.” That was “the afterlife.”
Of course, only a former military man could be that cynical!
Um, no. He was this bad before the war, too, possibly worse.
He can be taught. I think…..

6 years ago? Mike died in the invasion of 2004 are they just estimating or did Mr. Willis make a mistake.
The invasion happened very early 2004. So counting 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and most of 2009, that’s indeed six years.
Hang on, though. Everyone enlisted by SEMME was presumed dead by all their loved ones. So that means they thought he was dead twice.
Holy crap. Never have I pitied any fictional character more than I do Mike’s parents right now.
I wonder if they’ll be blasé about it the next time Mike dies.

Amber forgot how it is very important that we do not mention the war. Doing otherwise is Fawlty.
I LOVE YOU
Oh I can’t stop laughing at the last panel oh cheese I can’t breathe!

They wanted to change it but he refused just to annoy them
Way to break the ice mike
