I’ve always wondered what the apostrophe in “d’oh” is supposed to substituting for.. Examples: “I have” to “I’ve” – drop the “ha” , sub in an apostrophe. “I would” to “I’d” – and so on…
What letters are supposed to go between the d and the oh?
Actually, I think I read in one of Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers that the “d’oh” is from an old comedy routine from early days (silent movies) and it was put in the original Simpsons script as just some random reaction-noise. It was up to Dan Castellaneta to decide what to actually say and he decided on keeping it (and making is his own).
So I challange you (yes you; whether reading this comic for the first time like myself or a veteran re-reader) to research whether or not I have provided fairly accurate info!! Muwah ha ha ha haaa….!
