They show off the shape of leg and ass (heh ass) and men are all about women's legs or something (As a straight woman I cannot attest to the actual truth of this lust) Now to make people really mad: there was a sidewalk preacher at my college who decided one day to preach about how women needed to wear skirts because the reason men date other men is they are confused about who to date since they can't tell the difference between boys and girls when girls where pants. this is the more generally used excuse for women to not wear pants.
