The cruelest part is that it’s really a guy robot modded with a feminine body and is now forced to pretend to be a girl. That’s how I view the comic anyways.
Someone in marketing saw there was going to be a girl transformer and a boat transformer and tried to minimize their loss of sales by combining the two.
As I read this comic, I couldn’t help thinking; “Why should a robot have a male or female aspect? A machine would not desire gender definition. An android might, but to design a robot with gender definition is superfluous to its programming (ie, car manufacturing robots are pretty damn cool-looking, but no-one has felt the need to add gender definition to their appearance). Robots have no need for gender and are not (yet) programmed with a sense of idendity or even true sentience. Go-Bots and their nemeses are “Androids in Disguise.”
Maybe *that* was the sticking point that kept me from caring about the show when I was a kid.
The toys were pretty cool until I figured out the puzzle. Then they were boring. It was only the *really difficult* ones that I liked, but they didn’t sell as well coz most of the kids couldn’t figure them out.
(And the best games of battleship were the ones I played with my dad on graph paper!)
To be fair, not all girl transformers are like that, it’s just her because she is based off a very badly designed toy. And her wiki page is disturbing: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Thunderblast_(Decepticon)
poor robot girl
to be fair though you aren’t the only transformer who’s alt mode design made no sense.

Congratulations, you just invented the shemale robot fetish.
I googled shemale robot and got 21,500,000 hits.
Spoken like someone who never read any of the “Femme’s Unite!” fanfic back in the late 90s.
There’s a LOOOOAD of Transformers porno out there.
Will you two get out of here and let me feel clever for once?! >_<

No.

I think you talking Override who was a dude in Japan. Thunderblast is really a woman.
Why not have them fold into wings so she has clearance and can fly?
It’s be harder to get that to turn into a boat, I imagine.
Why no Thunderblast nipples, Willis?!

Every time I see this comic I can’t help but think “Hey, she looks like Joyce!”
It’s the face she makes in panel two, isn’t it?

There should be a closing quotation after “…desire gender definition.”
Dammit! Autobots! AUTObots! Not GO-bots! Jeez, I am such a derp.
Hehee.
