No, (s)he does not. Not even basic logic. Poor people basically spend nearly 100% of their income. They are already the best currency-circulators. On the other side, Wal-Mart's low low wages puts less money in the pockets of the poor, thus removing money from circulation. In fact, govt subsidies (food stamps, etc.) are required to allow this kind of wage structure to exist -- which I would have thought would be anathema to a libertarian.

Inflation is a product of the money supply, period. Rising or falling prices in one sector just gets balanced by the others (rising gas prices makes a limited-income family spend less on steaks, for example). Inflation has been low mainly because dollars have been leaving the country an not coming back (yet) -- sitting in foreign bank accounts and govt reserve funds.

...Coupled with products made in countries who use sweat-shops and child-labour as an accepted means of production. This is one part of how big-box companies can offer such reliably low prices (the other part is being able to buy in such bulk quantities as to be able to do a 2.2 markup and still make a profit while underselling the competition ie; smaller shops which simply do not have the storage for that kind of stock). Everyone comlains about "Support the Economy by Buying American/Canadian", but when it comes down to it, our superior labour laws bring up the price of production. Not to mention our superior quality control... Until we tighten up our NAFTAs including ethical clauses, it is simply economically illogical to expect to boost our economy by "Buying North American."
I would like to see our artisans, furniture designers, tailors, carpenters etc supported and see the growth in our economy come from within. Quality of product and quality of life would improve, and the value of the dollar would stabilise.
Take that, (North American) Government! I challange you to forgo the foreign market band-aid!!! Invest in our own! WHOO!!

(I mean, come ON! The Hudson Bay Company got bought out by TARGET! So much for Canada's oldest retail. Oh, and BTW; opening a restaurant under the Bay's banner and calling it "BANNOCK" is extremely offensive. Target needs to read Canadian history before pulling shit like that. Louis Riel must be rolling in his grave.)

Ahem. (straightens shirt)
I am finished my rant. Apologies to anyone I may have offended. I will now go learn to knit sweaters to cover the t-shirt I got at Old Navy.

(burns with shame)

I can understand how customers who might not have otherwise purchased benefits the overall economy, but just because other people have the money to pay more they go to Wal-Mart for the cheaper prices anyway. Couple that with Ethan's information and that still makes it detrimental to jobs and such which overall hurts the economy because now even more people have less money, right? (I'm not trying to be a jerk I really am asking a question.)

well, to be fair you have to consider that Walmart sells to people who might otherwise not MAKE the purchase in the first place. Thus money gets circulated that otherwise wouldn't, and the economy benefits. Also, Walmart has single-handedly choked inflation down, simply because they refuse to raise prices. Other companies follow suit to compete, and disinflation results. Note that disinflation is NOT deflation. Deflation is worse than inflation.
