…I might find this funnier if I had known that a) this was a Superman reference before seeing the tags and b) don’t remember them making an announcement for this at my Catholic school.
And now to lighten the moment for any one that reads this, if Robin wanted to punch this guy, I would keep him still for her, and if their boss asked I saw nothing.
Early on, maybe. But by the end, he was as much of a bastard as any of them. Flying to Africa to lie about condoms, excommunicating priests who spoke against the church’s bad practices while protecting pedophiles, the usual.
Mike has inspired me to revert to being an asshole as he reminds me of just how much fun it is. Ps: mike got the crap beatin out of him by Walky so I figure robins punches won’t fell half as bad by comparison.

It always bothered me that Robin was the one mourning for the Pope here. I don’t know why – it just seemed so weirdly out of character. Maybe she was raised Catholic? Not improbable for someone with her background.
I think it’s just because it’d be even more out-of-character for anyone else. Ethan is the most likely to care about this sort of thing, but he’s Jewish, so… yeah.
Robin is latino, so yes, she is Catholic. She also somehow believes in another strip that she will ascend when the rapture comes, so honestly I wouldn’t get too worked up about what Robin does or does not believe in.
In retrospect, I’m surprised I knew exactly what this was referencing the first time I read it, despite never having read the Death of Superman arc, despite not even being born when it happened.
Behold!! I come from the future! A future where popes retire from their position! As in retiring not just from death. Though fear not commenters of strips past! Keep reading! This comic only gets better. Seriously. Like an addiction.
I laughed so hard at that.
I am going straight to hell.
Thanks to the addition of content tags, I now finally know that this is a reference to superman!
I think I like Cyborg Pope the best.

Robin wouldn’t need you to hold him, and I bet she could punch him so fast no one would see it.
She is like the Walkyverse version of the flash after all.
Is it in character for Mike to be familiar with the Death of Superman series?
Mike is familiar with whatever he needs to be in order to be an ass. He is the Batman of Jackassery.
HA HA! Reign of Supermen reference!
Compared to most of the other popes, current one included, John Paul the Great was a saint.

I bet the Pope’s personality been saved on a floppy disk

That’s like saying any Caucasian with a fantastic beard and tousled black hair must be Jewish.

I remember when this strip came out, I didn’t get the reference until the phrase “hip 90s hair.” And then I laughed very much.
Oh wait, it’s a Superman joke, isn’t it?
