The bigger question is why a toy store has a set of knives to begin with? Answer: Trick question, Mike brings his own knives to work for just such an occasion. But I’m sure that was obvious.
Seriously, if you haven't read the end of "It's Walky!" stop reading now.
Mike died at the end of the comic and was apparently unable to be resurrected. This has nothing to do with what Mike is trying to sell and simply the fact that he's there in the first place.
I’ve just been going through the various Walky incarnations and am feeling a bit bittersweet that I only got into the ‘walkyverse’ via Shortpacked & Dumbing of Age as they are kind of remixes of It’s Walky. Regardless…Mike’s discontented scowl and eternal cynicism is just tops.
Shortpacked! is in the same universe as the other “!” comics (Roomies!, It’s Walky! Joyce and Walky!) but not Dumbing of Age (which is truly a remix/Ultimate style re-imagining of the Walkyverse!)
1) Read it’s Walky if your confused about why Robin jumped when she saw Mike
2) If you want to know the whole story start from Rommies!, then read It’s Walky, then Shortpacked, and Joyce and Walky.
3) It’s best to read Dumbing of Age after you have finished Joyce and Walky. The whole reason why that comic exists is because of the thoughts of the characters in Joyce and Walky! SO READ EVERYTHING IN ORDER.
4) If you choose not to follow these steps be confused, cause there is more confusing stuff coming up.
I think Mike wasn’t revived using a martian resurrection chamber. Further in the story he states that the means he came back to life leave the subject right the way he was before dying, so it doesn’t sound like a resurrection chamber. I think Mike came back to life using a more sinister way that hasn’t been explained.
The First time I read this, I rolled my eyes. But after having read how he died (and given that his last words were something akin to “you call that tentacle violation>”), I think you could very well be right.
Well, state they were in when they died is more biological. Won’t cure a fatal disease, will cure being ripped apart and violated by tentacles. Also it’s kind of a moot point since we now know it probably was some form of resurrection chamber.
After finishing up It’s Walky! her reaction makes a lot more sense now…
I concur
Oh God you’re right.
You mean recommending a knife set as a set of toys didn’t give it away?

Holy crap, I just read the past ten years worth of strips and now this makes sense to me now!!!
Ditto
Indeed
Ah continuity. Sigh. Now to go back and read 10 years of strips to fully understand the backstory.
I sure would’ve at my age.
1. I am so glad I read It’s Walky first!
2. This is hilarious! The old man looks like he’s actually considering it!
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

I hate to state the obvious (and a SPOILER, at that), but…. man! It’s hard to believe that they’re getting married/having a baby now Ω_Ω
“It’s wise not to date co-workers”
*spoilers*
It’s werid seeing this half a decade later seeing Amber is now with Mike.

It’s possible that he ‘resurrected’ himself while he was still alive, thus creating backups.
