When I first read this, I thought Robin was joking. I have since read Joyce And Walky. I now know otherwise.

I thought the world knew about SEMME vs. aliens. I guess Walky-as-chesse cosmic retcon the place.

I think it’s established that the world at large is at least vaguely aware there was a Martian invasion and ensuing warfare, and of course for about a year leading up to it SEMME was all over the news. But Shortpacked!’s employees, Ethan specifically, are too…insular? Is that the right word? Unaware of the world around them to know.

Also remember that for while everyone was against SEMME, they were fugitives. Some people wouldn’t be too happy knowing that they’d be working with them.

the world knows about SEMME but they do not necessarily know the people who worked there. In our world we know the CIA exists but many agents are undercover or have done work that is classified. As they are cogs in a machine the general public would not recognize most of even the non undercover ones on sight.

“I’m looking for a job with less responsibility!” And then later she becomes a member of the House of Representatives…

To be fair though she was on Cadburry eggs at the time, wasn’t she?

It’s the House of Representatives. It’s not like she became an air traffic controller or a school teacher or a webcomic artist or anything.
